AFL holding out till the bidding goes higher ...

Ten and Seven playing hard ball ...

Nine ready to pump up their bid to force sevens and tens hands ...

Foxfooty waiting on the sidelines ...

Nine to attempt to prize ten out of their agreement with seven ...

All to be revealed after christmas. Looks like we'll get a hell of a big price and/or great coverage across the country. Could get both, AFL will be doing well if they can pull that off.

Thanks for that update. I'm still undecided who to support, although I certainly hope Foxtel has the rights!

Hope seven/ten get rights. all 8 games free to air, thats awsome. If nine gets them I will only have 4 available. Can't see Seven losing because they have the right to bid last. If the AFL goes money grubbing then seven can still bid 1 cent more than nine and win. Can't see Nine bring home the bacon, which is good because Edwuardo will be off the air.

Adelaide and Perth to get enough coverage of local teams to make supporters of other teams in those cities claw out their eyes and stab pencils in their ears.

Adelaide and WC will be mostly on Foxtel if 9 wins, foxtel want to increase market share in WA and SA

:(

Well goings by what's in today's Age - Channel 9 haven't actually done anything but talk numbers - no official bid:

"The Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions, which have seen regional coverage of football into their states reduced, are backing Seven and Ten while a number of Victorian clubs have told the AFL to take the best monetary offer - still expected to come from Nine but having not yet materialised."

While the AFL seem to be just to waiting for Ch 9 to do something, anything:

"Demetriou said his broadcast sub-committee had not responded to the offer (7 & 100 and was still waiting for a better financial deal to be placed on the table by the Nine Network."

From: http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/realfooty/articles/2005/12/19/1134840795292.html

Funny thing is this isn't that hard of a decision considering what Mr Demetriou said back in June:mad:

Please let ten and seven get it...

if foxtell wins those who dont have it can forget watching any decent coverage of AFL....what we get now is the tip of the iceburg and if we dont stop it now, we will get what is happening in UK re Football....no games on free to air

Hopefully at the end of all this, it results in greater exposure of our great game in the northern states. That's all I really care about. :thumbsu:

I reckon as long as it is on PAYTV live in the Northern States and then on FTA after the NRL then it is the best of both worlds and I would take the extra $15 million a year. IMHO. I would hate to see the demise of fox footy in all of this if it does not stay viable. They have great shows during the week and need good live games to attract viewers.

Seems reasonable. On seven having the last bid rights another poster reffered to, this will be no use if nine blow them out of the water by coming up with an absolute massive bid price that seven cant or wont match. Remeber packer and nine have huge financial resources that dwarf seven.

Then it would be up to the AFL as to whether they are happy with nine covering 4 FTA games and foxtel 4 games. I suspect this is a sticking point and concern holding up negotiations.

Other alternative is nine might look to prise ten back in to help them give free to air coverage and cover the cost of the bid. Leaves seven out in the cold.

Interesting battle and process. Will be watching with interest post christmas.

Exactly the same with me.
But I could go to a mates house or my aunty's place to watch Foxtel matches.

Choice of Eddie McGuire or Sandy Roberts.

I'm enthralled :(
Isn't which overpriced TV personality calls the game the least of the issues? What I want to know is why will 7/10 be better in terms of NWS/Qld coverage and what this theory is based on? Short of that what else apart from price is there to argue about?

channel 9 or channel 7 - flip a coin... i don't think either station respects australian football in sydney..

it is the people behind the scenes up there that prove that both stations couldn't give a fig about afl.

Channel 10 HAS TO BE INCLUDED THOUGH.

Out of 7 and 9 though... toss a coin.
Channel 9 have their strengths... a bit more professional in presentation.
Channel 7 more likely to show AFL in northern states.
