Yeah surely the solution is the clubs in Europe use squad and youth players if needed. Manipulating the draw is rubbish and the competition would be meaningless if you just took out the best teams from the previous season.

All the ‘solutions’ for fixture congestion and it very rarely seems to be to give the 3rd choice right back or youth striker a game.

Rules for the league cup third round should change to accommodate this, if they are keeping the big clubs away from each other and the big clubs are afraid of player burnout then force the clubs participating in Europe to field an u23s team for the 3rd round.

I miss the old Wenger days of him fielding teams of kids for these matches. Watching Carlos Vela and Bendtner when they were kids was a highlight.

It's not a punishment. It's a way to protect players due to the congested fixtures and also gives clubs outside of Europe a chance to win something. There is still the FA Cup to compete for as well. No need for 2 domestic knockout cups.

Total common sense in this post. Is there anyone other than England that has 2 cup competitions left?

I remember us getting flogged in the cup at home by a team of Arsenal kids and Van Persie.

We were pretty much full strength.

0 shots from 70% possession would be up there on the podium for worst Spurs halves I've seen

Only behind when Stellini had us 5 down at Newcastle in 20 mins and when Mourinho got pantsed by Dinamo when their manager was in jail

Some of the Johnson rhetoric is baffling. Criticism for being something he isn't. There's definitely times he shouldn't be in the team but he's ahead of quite a few like Werner, Kulusevski and Maddison for actual output

A few days ago I was dreading this game. It'll be our 4th home game in a week and a half, and I would have loved an away fixture so I could get home after work, sit in front of the TV and have a watch.

But really looking forward to it now. We'll have a load of kids out there and I'm really looking forward to seeing how some of them get on.

Struggled to get past Walsall.

Fans invading the pitch to have a crack at Cooper. Chants of "this is embarrassing" ringing around the ground.

Can't see Cooper staying long. Playing defensively against Walsall is pretty ordinary.

Danny Ward masterclass in the pen shootout.

Results haven't been that bad have they? Draw against Spurs and couple of others. 2-1 losses to Villa and Fulham away who just beat Newcastle 3-1. Gees you have some whingey fans

We have 1 win in 7 games (against Tranmere in the League Cup).

We play an absolutely dreadful style of football and he's leaving our best players on the bench game after game.

Other than Everton who do you think you should have taken three points against?

Palace.

Definitely Walsall.

Fair comment on Palace from being 2-0 up, but I suppose that might be why Cooper's gone a bit defensive to protect leads like that. :p Guess you could say 2 points dropped against them but an unexpected two points picked up against Spurs and Everton (given how late the goal was).

Walsall was your second string so surely doesn't matter.
