So, now that the whole Freo / Hawks deal has gone through all you so called Hawthorn supporters who wanted to keep him, are slagging him off as if he walked out on the club ??
get some f*^@+!g brains.
only 2.5 weeks ago he went within 5cm of putting us into a Grand Final. I say good luck to him and I hope he ends up playing good footy remembering that he is only 21!!

Bit pissed of about McPharlin, every club pissed themselves laughing when we drafted him, we will have to wait and see how his groin handles that harder playing surfaces of WA.

Remember Ben Allan ??? he left Hawthorn at his peak and on returning home couldn't handle the firmer grounds again.

Trent came on SA radio and he really seemed like a top bloke, a really nice person. Very disappointed with the way he was treated by Hawthorn and Scwabby but looking forward to starting afresh at Freo. Good luck to him, I hope he does very well over in the West. :)

Yep, happy to leave Trent alone on his $450,000 contract, his willingness to be traded to a club of his choice, his oh so gracious aknowledgment of the support of the 'fans', his statement that he 'couldnt possibly return after whats happened'.

Yep, more than happy to leave him alone.

Holland was man enough to take the blow to his ego and came back to the club after the club went back to him.

Trent didnt seem to be able or want to do that.

Sad to see him go, cant say I wish for him to be a raging sucess with Freo though.

Now now Grendel...

Trent Croad wanted to stay at Hawthorn, even as he went under for his surgery. He never walked out, he never left the club. He was disappointed with how the club treated him, but would have stayed, and wanted to.

Hawthorn almost didn't trade him. He wouldn't have been traded for just two picks with McPharlin. Fremantle threw in the extra draft pick on the last day when they realized that the deal wouldn't go through...so Hawthorn bit.

So there you go, Trent didn't go, Hawthorn rid of him.

I know I won't be booing him when he gets the ball, and I wish him all the best out west...although I wish he would be showing his best in the brown and gold. :(

I'm not a big rap for Trent Croad the person, i think he's a complete **** BUT he did nothing wrong, Hawthorn pimped him without telling him, quite clearly Hawthorn didn't want him so why should he stay?

Cheers

Trent is a victim of Hawthorn's success. We have to remember that. I hope he does well. Meanwhile I think Freo will still try to get Jon Hay back in the future. Who would they trade for him ? Hmm. If it happens, you heard it here first.

I only came to Oz in '88, so missed most of the golden years, I understand quite a few promising players were ontraded then. Plough springs to mind. Couls thos of you with longer memories remind me of some incidents ?

Well in 1982 Hawthorn pissed some kid called Ablett off, he went on to play 248 games and kick 1030 goals.

Hawthorn did really well in the late 80's (as far back as i go) as far as keeping a lsit together, that side of 1989 was still the best i've ever seen.

Cheers

Wrong. Trent's own words were "How could i go back to the club and face the coaching staff that wanted to get rid of me" He made it quite clear that he wanted to be traded as soon as he knew he was on the market. Be under no illusions, he left us. We didn't give him much of a choice, but in the end he left

thats the way i thought it happened too chris.
he was upset that his name is up in the air about trading...
to be honest, whos name WASNT up for trading? i even heard some ridiculous rumours about buckley being traded.

poor trent, "hawthorn doesnt like me anymore" ....sook!

Let me get this perfectly clear......

A player CANNOT be traded AGAINST his wishes while he is currently under contract !!!

Therefore neither side can be blamed WHOLLY for this trade.

Croady could have bitten the bullet & stayed if he really wanted to (for less money in the true Hawk style).

Schwabb & Parkin could have offered at least 20 worse players than Croad....but would have never secured the No 1 pick.

As much as I am disgusted by the whole trade..... I understand that you have to give up something BIG to get something BETTER.

Good Luck Croad......
and Ball.... you better live up to your No 1 Draft Pick Potential IMMEDIATELY !!!!!

I can confirm that Luke Ball will complete his VCE studies at Xavier next year and will most likely play for his school - meaning it is unliekly we will see him at Hawthorn apart from maybe some training during school and summer holidays.

Realistically only a select few people know what really happened with the Croad situation. Seeing as he was a passionate Hawks fan as a kid and was honored to wear Chris Lagnford's 24 jumper he must have been really hurt and angered by Hawthorn's decision to try and trade him. If i was in his shoes i doubt i could again play for a Club that doesn't really rate his ability as a player (which is how it may seem to Trent). The club really should take most of the flak for this situation, after all, Trent seemed to be happy there and it wasn't out of his own voliation that he was traded. But then again, I don't know the entire story.
