Leaving before the final siren...

Yep twice, 97 Prelim Roos V Saints at the 20 minute mark and the Saints fans gave us hell and the 2000 final Roos V Dons when we were 100 points down at 3Q time.

The worst decision I made was at the cricket. Left the SCG when Australia were 8-30 or so on NY Day 1996. It was one where Bevan hit 4 off the last ball, perhaps the most famous game of the 90's.

So beware, you could miss the greatest comeback if you leave too early!

Mate, it was bloody cold and wet, i couldn't feel my fingers, i took some shelter behind a shed with no gutters, ice water straight down the back of my coat.

omg thats got TO SUCK!!!

i feel so sorry for you .... i would have loved to been at that games!

I never leave early. Some days you win, some days you lose, some days you get a new one torn for yourself... but that's all part of footy and you need to learn to put up with the shyte to truly enjoy the roses!

Well the footy two were cest la vie but yeh the cricket SCG is a hard one to take.

I left because I thought we were gone, the weather got cold (shorts and t-shirt), some 14-15 yr olds vomiting drunk all over the place and a couple of ugly punch ons around me. A rather unpleasant afternoon, but oh well, makes for an entertaining mess up story.

Cant recall the last time I left early because my team was losing. Probably done it though, but as a general rule I think it sucks. Most people have done it at least once, even if its just a few minutes before the siren.

What I can say is that I've rarely walked out of a Collingwood game disgusted at lack of effort. Generally we've lost due to lack of talent, but they have shown spirit and heart in defeat most of the time

I actually left at 3 quarter time during the WCE v Swans game this yeareven though we were winning.

My mate and his kid wanted to leave early because the game was boring and it was raining

Didnt want to go but then looked at the replay later that night and i was glad i did

I've only left before the end of a game three times.
twice vs the same team.

2004: Rd 21 v Bulldogs, stormed out in disgust at 3QT.
2005: Rd 8 v Bulldogs, see above.

2000: Qualifying Final. Vs Essendon, the day we lost by 125, i left at 20 mins into the 3rd Quarter down by 97 points.

I went to the Port V Carlton game that finished in a draw.

About 8 Power fans a few rows in front of me, left with five minutes to go when the margin was about two points.

Why would you do that??

I have personally never left a Crows game early.

I seem to remember staying at a Geelong vs. Adelaide game at KP, pouring down all day and we got pumped by about 65 points.

I have left early once from my own game, but that was becaue one of the people I was with was sick and I had no other option but to leave with them.

Also left the Carlton vs. Melb game at 3/4 time last week, the gf wanted to go, so I was pretty happy to get out of that rabble and beat the traffic. She wasn't too happy as we heard Carlton kick the next six goals.

i can honestly say i havent left a game early ever - even wen it is pourin wiv rain to the point of almost hail!! and i cant 4 the life of me understand y, in really close games, people want 2 leave?? wot is the point in even goin 2 the footy???

Not lately, this year has been good. I've learnt about No-doze and don't feel like falling asleep at 1/2 time and now find it's quite enjoyable staying to the end. :)

Well i hate to say it... but I do it every game when we're at the point of no return...

I think i stayed to the final siren only twice out of 13 games in 2003.

However its only been one game this year which I've walked out on, (St.kilda rnd 4) bearing in mind I didn't go to the Hawthorn game.

I have only once ever left before the final siren. That was because the lights had gone out and the game wasn't going to resume till 3 days later.

People who leave early in other circumstances should expect to be sneered at and thought of as being inferior.

Being a Melb based Sydney fan (and MCC member - hooray henry) I often don't bother watching the game if it's dull - esp as I'm usually at a non-Sydney game - but rather mosey on down to the tote. Generally stay to the end of Swans games however have also been known to see if I can recoup anything from the day by getting on a $3 mystery tri on the next at the Tamworth Harness.

Was there on the last day of Sept 1996 plus the Saints SF last year. And the Syd Ess EF of 1999 (80-odd points) and the horrific Hawks final at TD in 2001... in fact that day I left my 12mo twins at home in the care of my sister who'd never sat them before and didn't give them a second thought as we basically got pantsed by a team we'd beaten comfortably during the year. And we got whupped in the last qr, too IIRC.

Stayed till the end on every one of those.
