It’s why he was brought into the club 12 months agoLooking at the statement it seems Dilena will go into the role permanently.
It's not surprising at all given all the changes we've made.

He will be good for training standards and leadershipHannebery will assume the role, Lethers to handover

Based on the language, gotta believe this was a club decision.
Love how ruthless we have been recently...... the one thing st Kilda has always lacked is the win at all cost mentality.
Considering how well an AFL CEO is paid and what a cruisy industry it would be to work in (captive market) you'd have to be pushed to leave I'd reckon.Just got email from the club. Looks to me like he's been pushed.
Did he? I am not saying you are wrong I just don’t know much about this side of footy. I thought given how North performed over that time he may have been useless! But as I said, I don’t know this side of the industry well. When you read the words “by mutual agreement” then it seems likely the club has initiated the change.
Carl Dilena did a very good job as North CEO. He seems to be the obvious choice to replace Lethlean. An internal replacement and a smooth handover.
I heard this over a year ago. Surely not true, but very fun to speculate about!I heard from a very good source before Christmas that Lethlean would be sacked and replaced with Gil (!). Pretty much dismissed it out of hand, even though the guy is very close to the club. Still assume it's not true.
In a lot of ways he acted like GT but without the playing AFL cudos advantage and club experience bonus.
Some good articles on him and the job he did clearing Norths debt was highly sort after and we got himDid he? I am not saying you are wrong I just don’t know much about this side of footy. Dilena acting - good experienced and well qualified operator & has been with us a year or so - no big deal - should be a pretty seamless transition.Club Statement: Simon Lethlean to depart Club
St Kilda Football Club and Chief Executive Officer Simon Lethlean have agreed to part ways.
The Club’s Board and Lethlean have come to a decision that the demands of the Club and the requirements and focusses of the role of the CEO have shifted and it is now an appropriate time to look for a new leader.
St Kilda President Andrew Bassat thanked Lethlean for his contribution to the Club since joining in the 2018 pre-season as General Manager of Football, before being elevated to Chief Operating Officer then Chief Executive Officer in late 2022.
“Under Simon’s leadership, the Club has seen significant improvement on and off the field, including record membership and sponsorship levels in the club’s 150th year, and a top 8 finish last season following the implementation of the recommendations of the football review,” Bassat said.
“Simon also played the vital role in successfully navigating the club through the COVID pandemic, which included the Club returning to Finals in 2020 for the first time since 2011.
“The Club has undergone significant changes as a result of the 2022 Football Program Review which highlighted the need to elevate our Football Department and place football at the heart of everything we do, which we hope will see St Kilda competing for Premierships before too long.
“Simon and the Board share the view that a new CEO would be best placed to take the club forward.
“We wish Simon all the best and thank him for his commitment to the club and the contribution he made to St Kilda and our community.”
Lethlean said he was very appreciative of the opportunity to lead the St Kilda Football Club in both football and administration roles over the past six years.
“It is always a privilege to work in football, and I have had a great six years at St Kilda. I have loved every role, from GM Football, Chief Operating Officer and as CEO,” Lethlean said.
“I have had the opportunity to work with some fantastic people, and the members of the Club can feel very proud of the commitment and hard work of all the staff and players at the Club. It is an organisation with a lot of heart, and I want to thank past and present staff and players for all their support.
“The Club has a new coach and a new strategy, and I have agreed with the President that it is time for the Club to seek a new CEO.”
Current Chief Operating Officer Carl Dilena will assume the role of acting CEO. Dilena served 12 years as a Board Member of the North Melbourne Football Club, including seven years as Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer prior to joining St Kilda in late 2022.
Ruthless club these days.
From offloading players and administrators to telling The Hammer to get up off his arse.
We’re not here for a haircut.
So I am not working, might throw my hat in the ring, doesn't seem a hard job to do ️

About time
Last bit of useless deadwood gone
We have a ruthless club president. Before him, the CEO seemed to make the running and the Board followed. Nettlefold Scottish idiot and Finnis (who did a good and underrated job getting the house in order) seemed to be making the decisions.
Lethlean during his time seemed to make more wrong choices than right ones. Hannas re-hiring Ratts come to mind.
In a lot of ways he acted like GT but without the playing AFL cudos advantage and club experience bonus.
The club appears to be running smoothly in the football department, and a CEO that has perhaps a tainted image when running that department simply cannot last.
Delina will be a good fit resume wise whether he is a long term solution we wait to see.
Also if Jason Dunstall can run a club, it surely is not that difficult.
The review of the club all bar the coach set up by Lethlean, seemed like a strange call. You either review all on an area or you don't. That may be where the smoking gun is.

No room for two big dogs in the yard…
Lyon is, IMO, clearly cleaning house to get in “his” people; perfectly normal in world football and the NFL…
