Player Reviews: Lewy Taylor, Sam Mayes and Zac Bailey
#28 - Lewy Taylor
It was another consistent year in 2018 for livewire small forward Lewy Taylor. For the fourth time in his five-year career at the Lions, Taylor played in all 22 matches. Taylor has missed just three games since his debut in Round 1, 2014, and reached his 100-game milestone for the Club in Round 16 against Carlton.

It was a successful day for Taylor and the Lions as they romped to a 65-point victory over the Blues in front of a raucous crowd at the Gabba. His best matches for the season came against Collingwood in Round 7 when he kicked four goals, and against Fremantle in Round 15 when he chipped in with three goals and collected 17 disposals. He kicked 21 goals for the season which was a career-high, whilst also averaging 18 disposals, two tackles and 4.5 marks per game.

Coaches Comment – Jed Adcock, Forwards Coach

“Another consistent year from him. Played a bit closer to goal as a smaller forward and developed his game nicely. Kicked another 20 goals which helped the team a lot.”

Senior matches: 22

Who stood out during intra-club? (Anthony Wingard)
Lewy Taylor was also given the opportunity to ply his craft higher up the ground where his speed on the outside combined well with the inside midfielders. Usually a forward, Taylor was pinpointed by Daly as one of the best players on the ground in the practice game.

“Squizzy Taylor had a fairly good game playing forward and a little bit more through the midfield than what he had in the past,” Daly said. “He was probably the one player that took my eye more than on the weekend, but it was a pretty solid effort from all of our players as well.”

Interesting to note that an uncontracted Lewy Taylor was discussed as a possible trade target of Carlton at season's end to help them fill their small forward stocks on last night's AFL Tonight.

TAYLOR TROUBLE
He’s not the only one, but Lion Lewis Taylor is one talented player coach Chris Fagan needs more from. The winner of the Rising Star award in 2014, Taylor started the year on notice, in the NEAFL. He’s a valuable link player when in form, but looks low on confidence and struggled to find the football. Taylor is out of contract at the end of the year and has a job in front of him if he doesn’t want a change of scenery.

Mutual I think - obviously I get his side but I think you can read between the lines

If I'm reading the beat on the jungle drums correctly...Being heavily courted by Norf..(talk amoungst supporters seeing him as the next Boomer) some publicised interest from Carlton but that i believe thats management negotiating a higher contract at the kangas
