Favourite for the flag is Rokewood at $2.70 followed by c/l at $4.50 and Skipton at $6.00 Natte at $50.00 Illabrook $17.00 Lexton $18.00 Ararat $123.00 Navarre $25.00 they would be my odds for the big one what does everyone think???

I'd put CL shorter than that at $3.00 or something like that. You're obviously not rating Natte any chance at $50. Pretty long odds for 2 x prelim finalist and then runner up. Surely they are shorter than Lexton or Navarre.

My view is you would only get a return if you bet on CL, Rokewood or Skipton.

As a former saints player, you would have to rate them an equal chance to Rokewood to win the flag. Ins's or Out's they always seem to find that something...

Hate night shift should be doing work.. Saints have lost alot of players no standover players playing for them anymore no Curran, word has it Battye is gone Rob Waters etc. Thats c/l biggest weapon to intimadate its apponent!!! That is my reason i have them at $4.50

I'll take plenty on Natte and Skipton at those odds.

Just had a look at the coaching list for 2008. Things must be tough at Eagle land to have an ex-Landsborough Coach at the helm. He could advise his fullback to take a leaf out of his book, if you're getting goals kicked on you and theres opposition reserves players laughing at you, jump the fence, swing a punch at them and hit a car door! How can a club attract players with a 'psycho' coach? Is he playing or non-playing?

Curran was a 2's player last year. But I agree with Rob Waters going should blow them out. Recent history has shown they get runners up when he's not coaching/

You've lost us mate. I don't think anyone has posted anything in regards to the Eagles. Fill us in if you can.

Tell me OSB who has c/l got that has a bit of fire in the belly??? I just think that they need to pick up someone who is hard at it an can intimadate the oppisition what do u think????

I got the info off countryfootyscores.com.au it has a list of who's coaching who. And I was referring to an amusing incident when one of their joint coaches was playing coach for Landsborough about 10 years ago

Can't see Skipton winning it this year. Ageing list that lacks pace. Thats ok if there a genuine hard side, eg. C/L but i think there not that way inclined. Still expect a top three finish, but short finals campaign.

Natte seem to have only lost the one player (according to the transfer website) despite what has been previously said. So on that you would say they will challenge again this year. I think their problem has always been that they've lacked depth in their forward line that gets shown up come finals. Depending on recruits and departures i think they could finish up anywhere from premiers to second last.

C/L have to be the yard stick, have got some quality players coming: Grigg, Pring, McCormack and a young kid coming from Robinvale who goes very well. My thoughts are they will be the side to beat. Even money flag chance.

Rokewood appear to be going about their business, i see a few guys on the transfer list coming in and not many leaving. Could be their year but the need to break the finals voodoo. Will be in the mix.

Illabarook keep getting better every year, i'd expect this to be Lambs last year and from the word around ballarat it looks exciting for them. Numbers working hard on the track, at this stage of the year it looks promising. Finals without doubt

Navarre will improve, never easy to gauge how a side will go when they have 10 new blokes coming in. They needed it and appear to have worked hard to fill their holes in last years side. Good start, anyones guess

Lexton will improve and push for a finals birth. Not sure how good the guys are coming in, and in my eyes are similar to Navarre who will need to gel if they are going to be any good.

Ararat will have a long year ahead

Porter and Rayner are two that come to mind. It's not just 1 or 2 players that make them intimidating, it would be the collective team mindset.

Raynor yes, but didn't play that much last year. Porter no, he's just not a standover type player, i have never seen him get aggressive. You need at least 2-3 players that can lead from the front and bring the rest of the team to there level, i just dont think c/l have that (step aside we are taking over) type attitude in them anymore. When they were up and going ie: finals, sides sh$t themselves even before they played them, it was great to see a team intimidate the league. The only side i saw dish it back out was Navarre years ago, c/l were odds on and Navarre flogged the sh$t out of them both on the score board and on the field, they had their heads between their legs big time, thats the first i have seen it happen to them in years.

I'd hate to be CHB with a ball popped up knowing Porter is on the way. I think you are wrong in your assessment of Porter but you may be right that their intimidating players might be decreasing with both Waters leaving.

As i have stated i saw a number of c/l games last yr and i think your way off the mark when talking about intimidation. I never saw 1 player intimidated by either Waters player, in fact they took it right up to them to the point where Ross in particular gave away many ridiculas free kicks per game out of frustration. IMO 3 out of the 4 mentioned players leaving wouldn't have played senior footy this season anyway. Was told they are fitter now than at any stage last yr and will inject multiple new faces with credentials not just numbers. I think the way they gang up to intimidate opponents is what sets them apart and thats bred into the club so don't expect it to change any time soon.

I agree with you there Biff. Rob Waters can change a game with his aggression which usually runs through his players. I think they will miss his alot. As for curran playing 2's, was this through injury or just coundn't make the senior side?

Snail which 3 players i had mentioned would not play seniors for c/l this year? We will have to wait and see who for the reining premiers stands up and takes over as the hard nut's for c/l this year.. If i were coach of say Rokewood or Skipton i would ruuf them up as much as possible it see if any cracks in there armour appears:D. But could be wrong will have to wait and see.

Exactly Snail. As I said before, it is a total collective mindset in the way they intimidate.

I'm impressed by his coaching rather than his playing. Years back in his BFL days and early CL days he was a great player. It's his leadership now and the way he gets the team playing that is more impressive.

Curran was rubbed out in the 2's in the finals when they lost the prelim to Natte and I think that put him out of the game for good with the 16 week suspension. Injury was the reason I heard he was in the 2nds.

Gee Curran was a big man in that two's final last year wasn't he! Waited until the game was out of reach and then started to swing the dukes, knowing full well, that if someone hit him back, they'd get rubbed out for the grand final. On par with hitting someone from behind for mine, shows the character of the man. What a way to leave footy as a cowardly thug.

Marcus matthews and brett sladdin have been appointed senior coaches at the ararat eagles this year Matthews coached the under 17 side to the grand final last year and sladdin ran the bench for bell. both have played in premiership sides and have a wealth of knowledge on the game. Look out for a young eagles side this year with 10 of the under 17 players staying on at the club to play senior footy. As for you kakkapo maybe you were the one hiding behind the car door :D !!!

good to see that the eagles are going about it this way!! far better option that buying in a team for one year and then losing half the team by next year! May well be a steep learning curve for the kids and they may get flogged in a few games this year but will set the club up for a good future and that what ever footy club would be trying to do these days i would imagine.:thumbsu:
