It would be very disappointing if Natte Bealiba were to leave at the end of the year. One thing that makes the Lexton Plains league great is the diversity of different players that play in the league. We have got teams that recruit mainly from Ballarat (Rokewood, Skipton, C/Linton, Illabarook, Lexton) Ararat (eagles), Stawell St Arnaud (Navarre), Maryborough (Natte Bealiba). I would hope that the committees at all clubs would keep striving to put a lot of hard work into improving the culture and their lists rather than putting performance issues (or lack there of) into the too hard basket and simply want to leave the league.

Has any one heard anything from SMW rovers and a few of the mininera teams if they are still interested in joining the lpfl? Wouldn't expect to hear anything mid season but if anyone has let us all know!

Natte has wanted to come into the MCDFL for a number of years now so to say that it has anything to do with their current performance is a bit ordinary in my book. + you cant have a go at Natte in one breath and then start discussing the possibility of poaching from the Mininiera in the next sentence. Leagues need to restructure and we will see it sooner rather than later. Natte into the MCDFL makes a lot of sense geographically.

It has already been said ,but the fact is that Natte have wanted out of the league for the past 3 or 4 years, so this has nothing to do with current performance. Lets not forget that when the league was formed there was Avoca and Dunolly playing, creating some pretty close games for Natte. Once these teams decided to jump ship it left Natte as the lone side up north with plenty of travelling to do. This is one of the reasons recruiting is difficult for them because players from Maryborough choose the MCFL because it's closer. Every year Natte rely more and more on recruits to boost numbers as the people with kids start to move away, as evidence by their lack of juniors this year. The drop in numbers at senior level this year highlights this too. A lot of the players were travelling just to play two's last year but its getting harder to justify the cost of continuing to do this. This trend is likely to continue and if they don't move leagues, I wouldn't be suprised if they folded in the near future, (similar to the reasons that Landsborough went under). Last year merely proved that its not a move for the sake of it being easier, but rather to sustain the future of the club.

Interesting post and I can see the problems faced by Natte. 3 wins between U/14, U17, Reserves and Seniors says trouble is on it's way unless something happens.

The only weakness I can see is that you said Natte rely on recruits. How many recruits are from Ballarat in this year's side? How many recruits are from Maryborough or MCDFL clubs? If there are more people from Ballarat than there are from Maryborough or MCDFL clubs then I would say moving into the MCDFL will only make recruiting harder.

As far as I know the majority of the recruits travell from around Melbourne, with the majority of the locals coming from around the Maryborough area. There is very little recruiting from the Ballarat area because anyone from there interested in playing would choose a club closer to Ballarat as opposed to travelling an hour to train and play.
If Natte were to join the MCDFL they would be more likely to add players from the Maryborough region who may be looking for a change of club or who may be travelling from Maryborough to play in neighbouring leagues. It's all a bit of "maybe" and "might" but its more likely to work than staying where they are.The club have done an admirable job to stay competative for this long, especially considering their "neighbours" jumped ship soon after the league was formed. But it would be stupid of them to disregard the warning signs and linger on until they become the next Landsborough.
It would be interesting to get some thoughts from the folks at Navarre. Are these issues similar or are they finding it easier to attract/retain players.

If its been said once its been said a million times. There must be a major reshuffle of leagues to make sure of a few teams futures. Everyone seems to notice this apart from the vcfl but they need to wake up and take notice and take notice quickly

good too see a juniors thread now =)

Agreed, the kids use the web just as much as the older blokes, possibly even more. I just hope the thread doesn't get filled with useless crap posted by pig headed heroes mouthing off to each other. Keep it clean and there shouldn't be any problems

This is very true Whacker but the clubs don't help the VCFL much by refusing to play in certain leagues for fear of failure or other sides being too strong. In the instance of Natte for example they have played and been competative in the reformed LPFL but realise the writing on the wall. Other clubs won't even give it a run without saying that if we move there or if this team comes into this league then we will fold. Common sense says that leagues should be grouped geographically. Then all clubs become responsible for their own performance against neighbouring towns. Making teams travel hours only creates more of a problem.
It seems to make very little sense to travel through two or three neighbouring towns to play another town further down the road.
The VCFL have a huge job in trying to please everyone but ultimately the onus comes back to clubs to be competative in their own backyard. This is why it is called "local footy".
Will be interesting to see what unfolds.

Just wondering on the form of "snowy" Fullford? Seems like a commited bloke who would put the snout over the prune if needed.

I am just wondering if there is a possibility that Lismore-Derrinallum will once again play their old foes Skipton,Carngham-Linton, Illabarook and Rokewood-Corindhap?? I loved the old western plains days....

would be great to have say 2 or 3 teams (if natte leave) in the lexton plains league...would attract alot more players and supporters to the league would be a very good thing.:thumbsu:

And it just goes to show that last year they were trying to buy a premiership. Where are all the players the signed up just before the clearences ended? In fact where are most of the recruits from last year

I've read some crap in my time, and this is a masterpiece above.

Natte are a well administered, strong cultured club, strong financial position due to disciplined decision making on recruiting players. The cancer that was trying to spread through the club has gone into remission after a bit of Chemotherapy sent it to Rokewood before it could do any more damage. Strong player list last year, and to the club and players credit, the player bill was modest, based on players willing to travel for the 'club' rather than the 'cash'. Maintain a good environment, and build a club on good values, a good community and the players will continue to come.

A couple of unfortunate events in the pre season has got natte off to a slow start, but it is mildy reminiscent of season 2006, when the club got off to a slow start and camehome like a train. A few blokes back from injury, a few good blokes travelling up to play for 'the love of it' and a couple of noteable injury returns, and I hope your club hasn't chalked up the win yet, against us, on the run home.

2. Kieran Robinson (Carisbrook) Good young player, came from Carisbrook the year prior. Happily have him back in the future.

3. James McNamee (Rokewood) Models his coaching on the Merv Neagle philosophy, just a selector, not a coach. Players don't play for him, but he insures his inability as a coach by continually bringing more imports ($$). 'Didn't improve one players ability during his tenure' Club harmony is damaged as he recruits more than he needs. Intention is to set fire to the place on the way out so that his ego can continue to delude himself that he was integral. Did as much damage as he could to Natte out of spite, players rallied, he got nobody, and will forever be remembered for the way he left, not what he did whilst he was there, quite sad really. Had a stellar side last year, didn't have the respect of the group to get the game over the line. Look for this again later in the year. Plays for himself, noted another 15 goal bag aginst Ararat, will go missing again in the big games.

4. Mathew Brady (Dunolly) Solid, played some good games for Natte, replaceable.

6. Bradley Ross (Carisbrook) Also returned to where he came from, also a grat contributor, well liked and a good bloke to play with.

7. Damien Larkin (Newlyn) Middle of the road.

10. Jeremy Robinson (Work) Can't afford an injury this year due to his pilot ambitions. Not playing.

18. Clinton Ross (Avoca) The biggest loss, great fella and a great clubman, under some local pressure from the home town for a few games. Apparently still cropping, might not have played many.

20. Lee Stewart (Rokewood) Apparently lost some blood last game V Natte, biggest loss he was involved in with regard to Natte.

21. Noel Jacobs (Retirement) Was a great asset to the club, club is most greatful for his decision to play last season, was great to have his experience around the place.

51. Michael Ramsay (???) Second biggest loss, awesome player, but was only coming up with Jezza Robbo, wasn't expected to return.

Interesting post Loyaltyfirst. Wouldn't you say trying to win a 2's flag has had worse ramifications for Natte-Bealiba. Most of the loyal 2's have not shown their face since G. Burns brought all his mates in at the expense of the locals.

Loyaltyfirst: Upon closer inspection on your post about Merv Neagle's coaching philosophy, a quick wikipedia search proves a total of 203 AFL games and a premiership. How many you played?

I commented on this about a week ago i'm pretty sure! The Natte club is known for looking externally for problems rather then looking at themselves. Its far easy to pin things on the guys who have come and gone rather then the guys still there. I'm telling you now the way Natte operate to settle scores is by writing letters and taking pot shots at people. Read through my post LoyaltyFirst and you have just ticked all the boxes of a true loyal Natte person.
