It is such a long journey for these guys just to get drafted. Then looking to the future, realistically it is at least 3 years before they can even start to hold their own at AFL level, and likely another 3 after that before they can be consistently strong key position players, so around 2030 for someone like "The Force." And if anywhere along the path to that your attitude or body doesn't stand up, or any weaknesses in knowhow, strength, speed, aggression, skill, courage or stamina are exposed by opponents you will never make it.

And even if you do make it to 6 years, like say Ben Miller now, just about every year you are watching new guys brought into the club to try to outcompete you for any spot in the team that may be on offer. You wait in line behind Coleman-Jones, Balta, Chol, Soldo, only to see when some of them leave, Tarrant, Nyuon, Ryan, Colina, Bradtke, Hayes-Brown, Young, Brown, Gibcus, Koschitzke, Naismith and potentially and potentially now Schofield or Lefau brought in to try to answer the exam questions a little bit better than you can. It cannot be easy.

I would just like to see Fawcett learning his business at VFL level in 2024. I guess like a Miller did early days or a Steely Green last year. Just get used to playing against men, don't try to be a hero, just patiently build towards the future and do what the team needs you to do. Not expecting miracles from this kid early on, but will be watching him with great interest to see how he is progressing along the way.

Training stray cats? Is that like herding cats?

Gotta be a career there somewhere for those skills.
