just listening to Liam and the boys on SEN. he says that north will finish 5-7 but thinks that cause the comp is so even, we are a chance to win the flag like Essendon in 1993.

in 1993 the dons finished top with 13.5 wins whilst fitzroy finished 12th with 10 wins.

interesting thoughts but we are not premiership material at this stage. thoughts?

Agree and will add that we're still in second gear. All our games have been competive and to say we didn't deserve to win any / most of them is a COP OUT. We have only won 9 from 20 quarters if I'm not mistaken and if we can lift that poor ratio then I'm sure we are headed for a better finish. JYD is getting his gameplan working and we should appreciate these arm wrestle wins as we're coming along without looking a million dollars.

Jake Niall didn't seem to rate us
Wonder what he'll say after we are 7 - 0 ?

"Adelaide weren't supposed to be good this year....and Port have injuries and suspensions ........? F**K you Jake Niall ...!!!!!!! :D

Jake Naill ? pffft ! another hack journo who is feeling the pain. :D Did anyone notice how quickly Jon Anderson jumped on the Hawthorn bandwagon ?

I reckon this is the most open season since 1997, and we all know Adelaide came from nowhere to win it. I don't think we'll win the flag unless we finish top four. If we finish top four then with no standout teams it comes down to who performs in September. I don't think we are premiership material but neither did I think Adelaide were and they won two flags.

Melbourne and West coast do still look good unfortunately. and I'm sure port, saints lions will come good eventually. but I still like our chances of 3rd at the momment, and think we are almost certain to make the finals. allthough a look at out draw over the next 4 weeks isn't great, but it gets even worse latter on. still a few easy beats runnning around but we havn't played the real good sides yet (bar saints)

Adelaide we're the best 'average' team to win back to back premierships....come to think of it they are the only 'average' team to win back to back premierships.

Like someone said they only way we could do it, even though I don't think we can is if we somehow scraped into the top 4. Then you never know, if you put yourself in the top 4 then you at least give yourself a decent shot at it.

The mental toughness is steadily growing, we need some GAME BREAKERS and who knows, with some luck we'll have a mighty dip I feel. Think about this. How many players look up to the likes of Colby, Arch, Simmo, Shagga and Sav ? These guys will be the inspiration that lifts us higher if everyone clicks and wants IT BADLY. That's all it comes down to. You can just see the way Arch is throwing himself this season, he knows there isn't any coming back, the rest of the players have to see that this could be the lucky roll of the dice season. That's how I see it. Same goes with other clubs. Journos are oblivous to this train of thought. They are just bandwagoners and little sheep following the game with blinkers.

I reckon Saints, Demons and Cats look good, and Weagles okay in H&A, but to go to ******** in the finals. If Port and Lions don't make the lofty heights of yesteryear in terms of ladder position, then I reckon this paves the way for the 'next generation' of teams, with Sts, Dees and Cats in the box seat. St Kilda and Geelong have been on the way up, and Melbourne therabouts and I like their chances.

I reckon we lack the finals experience across the board to go far in finals. Most teams who do well in finals have had some recent experience. Weagles might do okay in a Subiaco final, but I reckon might falter in Melbourne.

Very reminiscent of 1993 where any team in the 6 that year was a chance.
Probably a good comparison. The six was quality that year. One thing to remember about '93 is that only 20 H&A games were played, not 22 so it's a little harder to compare number of wins.

Yes, Woodson, your point about Arch has crossed my mind more than once. He is almost playing like there is no tomorrow. (Well he has probably played that way in every game he has played I suppose and that is why I love him more than any other footballer I have seen.) He clearly would love to play in another flag and with some of the pressure off him in being a key stopper in defence, I think he is relishing the new opportunity.

Having said that on paper we are nowhere near in the class of the Eagles, Cats, Saints and Demons who are the up and comers. Obviously Port can bounce back and we might very well get rolled by both them and Adelaide in the next two weeks. In my opinion the Lions are on the downward spiral.

Games are not played on paper, however and the one thing that we have that might stand us in good stead if we do make the finals is that Arch, Simmo, Boomer, Shagga and Corey if he found some form, have been there before and know what it takes.

Personally I am not going to get ahead of myself however, I am just going to take it one game at a time. More importantly lets hope the boys look at it that way.

You make great points here Kimbo. I have doubts on the Dees b'line though. The Saints are the team to watch I feel. WCE were my GF pick at the season start and I expected the Lions to slide but not this drastic. Shinboners pointed out that North are still to roll a Top 4 contender and I agree but with getting early wins now, we are in the mix to do a Geelong and find a better spot in the 8 come season end. We can't be that far behind the Cats either. Keep winning these armwrestles and don't drop games to hobo teams.

A couple of injuries and a brain explosion aside we did roll the Saints. That said the next 2 weeks should tell us where we're at - if we can win one and run close in the other than we're finals contenders (if not flag contenders).

I agree. Bear in mind that Milne did kick a goal about few minutes after his brain explosion anyway so that wasn't much to do with the margin/result. Some of those StK folk are such sore losers. Whattya mean, to run close ? (you mean lose a fourth quarter ?) that's UNACCEPTABLE. :(

The Glove returns and so does the fact that we're playing interstate in hostile territory >>> I eagerly await JYD to trot out the line that he is BURNING in the GUTS about our last AAMI visit and how embarrassing we were to get the whole mindset thinking we have ALOT to prove. Anything less than 7-0 is not guarenteeing NOTHING ! We are on a mission. Beware the boys from Arden St.
