Stevie J dropped on the radio over the weekend that Liam Ryan is in talks with Hawthorn.

He and his family were also spotted at the North v Hawks game a couple of weeks back in the Hawks area.

Has had a significant layoff with injury.

What’s he going to be worth?

Depends on the extent of his injury but late 1st/early 2nd seems about right.

Nope.

Classic example of a fan completely overvaluing their own player whilst undervaluing the opposition's.
That’s an ironic post to be fair.

He’s right though. Ryan > Brockman
Ok pretend Hawks fan, on career to date sure, but we’re talking about a 20yr old that’s playing every week with 10+ years ahead of him that is “going to get a contract that Hawthorn won’t want to match” because of their potential …..but “we’ll get him for a 3rd rounder or walk him to the PSD”.

Ryan is also out for the season and is said to be out of action until January at the earliest.

Any declaration of overvaluing players needs to understand that both sides of any trade are likely doing it.

If Brockman does want out and prefers the Eagles it would be Ryan and a swap of picks. Maybe Hawks 2nd and an Eagles 3rd coming back.

Ryan has a contract for next year and Brockman doesn’t; you conveniently failed to mention that…

Your whole post is delusional.

The big difference here is that WCE have leverage in a trade involving Ryan and Hawks don't for Brockman.

Is it fair? No.

Contract status and ladder position makes a huge difference in negotiations however.

It happened to us last year with Willie Rioli, after all.

Way to ignore the point.

Brockman is going to be a class player.

Would love him at Carlton..

The exact type WC should be quietly happy to be moving out the door IMO. Think the contract status means WC would want a slight sweetener if it was a Hawks / Brockman thing
Why do you believe this? I'm open minded either way on it.

Not exactly a standard setter, injured a bit, contracted, has value, over 25. Ticks all the boxes for a rebuilding club to pretend to put up a fuss about leaving but secretly helps move the rebuild along

I think Hawthorn getting Ryan would be all the more reason for Brockman to stay, unsure why everyone thinks it’s one or the other.

If it was a choice between the two I’d keep Brockman without a doubt.

Trade value wise Ryan is interesting, he’s talented but the injuries obviously bring his value down. He’s only managed 30 goals once having been around for 6 seasons.

A second probably gets it done, or maybe some sort of convoluted concoction of swaps around that.

Interesting if he’s open to any other clubs or the Sam Mitchell link is why he’s looking at a move.
