Frame 1, as the ball bounces to the boundary. Cowardly dog Thomas elects not to contest for the ball against Toovey, but to run in the opposite direction and snipe Reid, who is more than 5 metres from the ball and has no chance of being part of the contest

Frame 2, Toovey closes on the ball as it nears the boundary line. Even in the midst of his cowardly dog act, Thomas is still a chance to contest against Toovey but continues his sniping run in the opposite direction against Reid

Frame 3, just before executing his cowardly dog act, you can see that Thomas hits Reid more that 5 metres from the ball with Toovey almost making it to the ball before the boundary line beats him, lending weight to the scenario that if Thomas was not a sniping dog, then he may have made the contest first.
