I'd take Tayla Harris in a heartbeat. Missed all of '24 with a shoulder but she's only 27yrs old. We need an imposing marking KP FWD figure. We land Centra too, whoa .... that actually changes the magnets quite a bit in a good way.

So any thoughts on how this gets done? Not keen on giving away high draft picks but bring on Tayla.

Agree, 4th round pick? I reckon we need to take 2 good picks and then plus have another pick for Patterson in the draft.

Its different from the mens draft, but think a pick needed after when a bid comes. We're looking after our 2nd pick somewhere.
So if a bid comes at say pick 30, the. maybe sometime after that we can match.

Other than this rule, I'm not sure what it means to give up to secure a nominated player? Is it just a draft pick or is there an amount of points required? I guess the AFLW doesn't have the draft maturity as yet for daughter / father selections, so just a pick? (I'm guessing).

• A player may be nominated by an AFLW Club based on the Father-Daughter rule if their father played at least 1 AFL game for that Club.
• Where relevant, an AFLW Club must submit a Father-Daughter nomination form to the AFL by Monday 18th November 2024 (note the player must have separately nominated for the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft). The Father – Daughter bidding process will take place during the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.

Other than this rule, I'm not sure what it means to give up to secure a nominated player? Is it just a draft pick or is there an amount of points required? I guess the AFLW doesn't have the draft maturity as yet for daughter / father selections, so just a pick? (I'm guessing).

I'm a bit ambivalent to this rumour.

HH projects as a tall Mid/Ruck and centra is also a big mid.
Neither will solve our marking woes ahead of the ball.
HH isn't playing anywhere except around the ball. Way too many tricks for her to be wasted anywhere else.
Centra will immediately walk into the middle.
Maybe centra allows Bri fwd....but HH would allow Fredrick fwd....so its almost same/same in my book.

Kind of feel its win/win for us.....which is exciting!

I never said it was a good option!

but to ask you this question, how would it be any worse at ball retention than this year?
Different gameplan, different coach. Different ball movement philosophies.
I suspect they really wouldn't care to much about what happened under the previous regime.

But at least she can mark it overhead.
I would say we went at about 15 attempts per mark taken this year inside F50.

By the end of the year the CHF had moved into the ruck and gone past her (and looked far more capable in the ruck than she does up forward) we had no one over about 165 playing fwd.
Heck, we had Butler playing as our single tall (and she's what, 165/170?).
...yes yes injuries.....but you get my point.

Collingwood has also placed a nomination for Violet Patterson, daughter of Stephen, who played 96 games for the Pies in the 1990s.

Patterson is also a midfielder, playing for SANFLW club Glenelg, and representing South Australia in this year's U18 Championships.Capable of playing on either the inside or outside, she averaged 18.5 disposals and 7.8 tackles in her 12 games for the Tigers this year.

For example, last year saw Sydney place a bid at pick No.15 for Brisbane academy player Evie Long.

The Lions matched the bid with their pick No.20 (within 18 selections of 15), and Sydney then took a player (Sarah Grunden) with the next selection.

I believe the player has to sign something to let the club have rights to the player. If not, she goes into the open draft.

That would be a huge get, if true. She is probably the best player in the up coming draft, and l presume we would take her with pick 1?

Havana was happy to move interstate when I spoke to her at the Draft Combine. Though I got the impression a lot of clubs assume that Academy kids will just stay at home, so she didn't have as many speaking to her as they should have. If she ends up at Collingwood I'll have a good/funny story to tell but we'll see what happens.
