If we only use 3 picks in draft won’t that leave a few unfilled spots on list ?

We added the Irish rookie
Traded in 2

With the exists. One player was a cover for an inactive player. Remmos replaced Sheridan. Does remmos come back? If so those two imactive spots are filled

Looks like we’re finally getting it together
Strong additions that compliment each other and the skillset of our pick 1
Good delisting
Need a proper ruck and a tall FF like Nth Melb

COLLINGWOOD

In: Mattea Breed (HAW), Airlie Runnalls (FRE)
Out:

Emerging midfielder Mattea Breed was the Magpies’ marquee addition, with the 23-year-old signing a two-year deal at the club. Breed averaged 13.6 disposals for Hawthorn this season and will inject some serious talent into a Collingwood side in need, as the Pies also received Pick 26 in the deal in exchange for Picks 22 and 28. The Pies also dealt Pick 45 to Fremantle for speedster Airlie Runnalls, making promising additions as they now turn their attention to picking first overall at next week’s draft.

Collingwood: 1, 26, 55, 73, 91, 109, 127

How did we get these other picks? Do we have 7 list spots? I'm not sure we do

FATHER-DAUGHTER NOMINATIONS:

Carlton: Sophie McKay
Collingwood: Violet Patterson

Rule: The club must match within a round of the bid from another club. If no bid is made, the club must select the player with their final selection.

So, 55 is the start of R4, so we'd need a bid to come in the R3 - not R2, right?

Is that considered likely?

(I see she's ranked 30 on 'rookieme', so do the club know something others don't?).

Kevin Sheehan ranked her in his top 30. But maybe ranking and where bids come is a different story. So if Havana drops from the first 3 picks, then maybe Patterson will drop outside the top 30

Looks like we'll just use 26 on Violet.

She would need to get to 37 in order for us to be able to match.
Which is far too risky for the club.

They've convinced her to nominate, so they won't risk it.
Then its about how many list spots we actually have as to which picks are then used.

Was super happy with the Breed trade given her age and role as well as the way we covered our bases.
Very good trade.

But then trading in a 26 year old and putting ourselves into a corner for Violet was questionable at best.
edit: not knocking Runnalls. She'll be great for us. Just questioning the strategy behind it.

Lets see how this plays out....but i'm tipping if we use 26 on another player, it will be the longest 11 picks of the clubs life!!
....and a very small chance Violet gets to us.

Went into this draft - trade period hoping we’d extract the maximum draft benefit of the wooden spoon which would have included the number 1 pick, another top 20 pick, and Patterson. At the same time, I’m happy with the trades. Adding ready made talent isn’t such a bad thing. Hopefully Breed and Runnalls give us a better return than whoever we might have taken as our 2nd round option, and we can hit a couple of gems later in the draft. Can’t recall too many of those, Porter probably the last and that was a while ago.

Yeah would need essentially a bid to come any time in Round 3 not Round 2. By the club doing the trade it seems like they’re confident the bid won’t come earlier.

Father/daughter prospects often get picked up below value so probably a bid comes in the third round somewhere.

So there is a Chance we could lost Patterson?
I don't think the recruiting staff would have taken the risk, but theoretically there is a gap between the picks where it is possible, yes.

Agree the Recruiters hearing she won't go very high in the Draft to be okay to get us

Sorry if this has been posted already? .... worth a read ...

Doesn't add too much more than what's we're talking about on BF, other than it's from an external so doesn't have the invested emotion and select worry attached. I do like how the artilce mentions Claire Mahony who I really liked her highlights and I reckon a cracker for what we need. Overall, as long as we get a proper KPF to mature in that roll. I think we can forget about getting a specific ruck this draft and we'll still work with Frederick who has been serviable the last 2 seasons, and if we at least chop in Breed to contest in ruck around the boundary when required rather than putting up undersize Bonnici, then that could work.

I think we did a great job during the trade period but I would have liked one more top 20 pick
Georgie Brisbane sound slike a great option for us up forward who can play other positions

Yep, we need a proper ruck

Very sore point for me - we nailed quite a few of our players in the first ever AFLW draft.

But moving on, after a shocking 2024 season, I’m feeling quite positive about next year. Assuming we get Centra and Patterson and - a tall forward? - the future is looking much brighter.

Definitely felt like we just treaded water in 2024, as we watched our season drain away (mixing up my metaphors!), but changes are being made for 2025. This is reflective of the club mentality generally - no part of the footy program is being left untouched.

It’s all good.

I really hope you're right, VP.

I didn't follow the team very closely this year, (or last) but they were basically uncompetitive, yeah? That one win was super-lucky & the percentage!

TBH, I lost interest in the period where Malloy was stolen & Lambert was traded. It took all the wind out of my sails just as the team was developing an identity for me.

It looks like a LONG way to what the top few teams are doing.

I suppose I don't know the W team well enough to see all the 'green shoots'.

No Idea why we Traded Lambert when she was pretty much our Best Player

She was OOC I suppose. She wanted to leave (same for chiocci) but who knows the story.
I’m kinda in the view that while we had these good players we were competitive but not quite good enough to take the next step- so in turn we had to take a few steps back to go forward
