Lloyd Goal of the Year!! WTF???

I realise that there is already a thread discussing the Mark/Goal of the Year, but I think that this needs its own thread namely for the travesty that it is. I am baffled how this has been given goal of the year, let alone make the final three, when there have been many other much better goals.

I spoke to several people at work about this and the standard response was “your kidding, (insert goal) was much better than that, what a f*king joke”

Off the top of my head I can name several goals more deserving than this one:

• Motlops reverse banana from 50, against the Lions – (prob should have won)
• Pearce evading several eagles before slotting one on the run
• Fevs tackle, play on then banging one through from 70, against the saints
• Ablett weaving through 3 port tacklers to slot one with less the a minute to go to put the cat in front (my personal fav.)
• Fletchers long bomb from 70 plus.

I remember Aka one year against Geelong on a sodden Gabba, kicking two pearlers in a row from deep in the pocket on the boundary line - neither of which won because they were considered "flukey". Same story here but a much different result- freakish, neatly improvised, but I would have taken at least five of the others candidate ahead of it.

On the basis of skills demonstrated, the stakes (score close, 1 minute to go) and the sheer balls to just go for it, Ablett Round 21 for mine. Cracker.

I remember Aka on a sodden Gabba, kicking two pearlers in a row from the boundary line one year against Geelong- neither of which won because they were considered "flukey". Same story here but a much different result- freakish, but I would have taken at least five of the others candidate ahead of it.

I remember them 2 goals, the 2nd at a bigger angle was just amazing.

Best single player effort I've seen in the last half a dozen years.

What a load of crap. That can't be for real can it? We've seen so many spectacular goals over the season, and they settle for a back heeled goal from the goal square. Disgraceful decision.

i seem to recall reiwoldt (or another saints player) kick a similar one but the ball was all ready on the ground think it was last year or the year before

That's my fav, I reckon the Pearce one is actually a tad ovverated.

Believe it or not, I reckon we've seen better from Pearce in the last couple years. Dont get me wrong its great, but it didnt suprise me alot when he kicked it. I was their and it never really got me, prob cause of the scoreline at the time.

i must say as a bombers fan that i was (pleasently) suprised

i saw the goal, and if aker's 2 goals were considered 'flukey' this certainly was

it was original yes, it should have been highly commended, but prob shouldn't have won

goal was much harder than people give it credit for, he didn't just back heel it. he grabbed the ball threw it between his legs and back heel drop kicked it through in the middle of a pack with 1 second left in the quarter.

remember that goal as well, now if a goal like that was given goal of the year it would be a travesty...lloyd's - not so much as it was about 50x harder.

if you define having a sook as demanding integrity in our goal of the year selectors, then yeah im having a sook.

Lloyds goal was good, ive already said that, however there were others that were OBJECTIVELY BETTER. no subjectivity here they were simply better goals than lloyds, and this just doesnt apply for me, it is a fact which is true and exists whether you like it or not
