murwillumbah cricket club, the local team from where my in-laws live, started off their season in not such of a grand manner.
-------------------------------
http://tweednews.com.au/storydispla...ocalsport&thesubsection=&thesecondsubsection=

Chasing Palm Beach’s first innings total of 293, the home side was dismissed twice inside four hours. Murwillumbah compiled 96 in the first innings and when forced to follow on crumbled for a measley 51 runs in their second dig.

"It wasn’t very good," Murwillumbah veteran Kevan Newell said of his side’s performance.

and who's to blame?

-------------------------
"The young guys think they can go out and just hit fours and sixes - it’s a bit disappointing."
-------------------------

pretty funny stuff (i think at least). anyone else's local teams do any 'better'?

My club's (Collendina) seconds rolled a team for 46 on a wet carpet pitch, and then went in and slumped to 7-32. From all reports, the only thing that got them over the line was that the opposition brought on a bowler who bowled 4 or 5 no balls in his first over, and continued to help the scoreboard tick over.

One of our batsmen was quoted as saying "If he bowls one no-ball an over we should be able to hang on long enough to get the runs". :D

lol chances of bumping a thread and seeing this. Collendina hey. Gonna get flogged this weekend :)

Well our 1st XI won their first semi-final for 10 years on the weekend, hopefully they can win the GF this week. Though I'm not sure if they go up to top division or not if they do win. It's complicated.

It's probably a similar set-up as us. If you finish on top (ie Minor premiersip) you get the option to go up. The finals series is just a bonus.

No, the association is going from 2 grades with 12 teams to 3 grades with 8 teams, or it's been proposed like that. It's not 100% signed off on yet, so I have no idea if they're going to go to Dunstan Shield or stay in Wright Shield.

the association i play in is looking to go with the same format of 8-8-8 for the top 3 grades.

not sure i agree with it and feel it could set some clubs back even further.

The idea is to get everyone to play each other twice.

Yeah, It's a bit unfair when some teams get to play bottom teams twice or thrice and others not at all. I know in my division we played each of the teams that finished top 3 twice or three times and played the bottom two teams once. Was ridiculous.

Was happy to see that the top team got thrashed in the Grand Final though.

i thought our 12 team 2 premier division where everyone plays each other once was good enough.

You're about 5 years too late with that sledge seeing as I gave it away quite a few years ago due to old age and general crapness, but that's an epic bit of thread-mining there.

Congrats to Anglesea on the flag.:)
