Hello all,

I posted the quiz to my friends;
Which player has the longest premiership drought in between?

So far I got drew banfield 234 games 12 years for west coast 1994-2006.

Just wondering if there is anymore?

And I assume the current player that holds the record for longest drought since a premiership is NM Brent Harvey? 284 and still counting.

Banfield has the most of bona fide in between droughts. Doug Wade, Gavin Wanganeen & Barry Davis also had streaks of 200 +games.

17 300 gamers never troubled the scorers, topped by Robert Harvey on 383. Shane Crawford's 305th and last got him off the mark, the longest streak of those who actually got the prize.

Other than Brent Harvey (282), of those who have won, Dustin Fletcher is on 217 then Kane Cornes 182. Matthew Pavlich is also on 282 in the donut club.

On the Crawford thing - how many players have had their last game as their first premiership? I can think of a couple (ie: the guy who only played one game and the ruckman from Adelaide) any more?

John Longmire in '99 (he missed the '96 flag with a knee injury)

Going way back, Harry Vallence in 1938 for Carlton, after 204 games.

Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom broke this record last year with them winning 13 years apart (2010-2023) from their first and second flag.

Drew Banfield was the previous record holder at 12 years apart (1994-2006)

That’s years but what about in games? Pendles would likely have it as he rarely misses but I reckon Sidebottom might still be behind Banfield

Selwood 242 games
Sidebottom 273 games
Pendlebury 281 games

Sidebottom has been more durable than I thought. Amazing achievements.

For the SANFL, Peter Carey (Glenelg) comes to mind 1973 and 1985.

More recently, Matt Panos (Norwood) 2014 and 2022.
The 1973 SANFL Grand Final was Peter Carey's 57th game for Glenelg, while the 1985 SANFL Grand Final was his 356th, making it a total of 299 games between premierships. Totals are sourced from the 1974 South Australian Football Record Year Book and the 1986 Football Times Year Book.

Ron Alexander played for East Perth in their 1972 Premiership and then his next flag was in his final game as Captain/Coach of East Freo in 1985.

Peter Bell went a decade between winning the 1999 flag with North to the 2009 flag with South.

West Perth have had a couple in recent years from memory. Jason Salecic 2003-2013, Aaron Black 2013-2022 and Shane Nelson 2013-2022. Sure there's been a few more than that down the years, given the droughts most WAFL clubs endure at certain times in their history.
