Re: Rams up for sale

Their revenue IIRC is in the bottom part of the league.

Louisiana is a strong football state but the Saints aren't a high revenue team.

I don't think the Rams numbers are anything to be impressed by. They probably are no better off than the Saints, Chargers, Jags, etc. who are often raised as teams to relocate.

Being a big time Ram fan - I have to agree - however we are far better off than we were playing in front of a quarter full stadium at Anaheim ... I wouldn't be totally against a move back to LA if the conditions were right (ie: no other team!!) ... it is a huge market..

Re: Rams up for sale

Speaking of "teams" for sale....

http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3406615

If I read this article right, sounds like the storage owner is gonna get his ass sued big time by Davis.

In the midst of an extravagant off-season spree ($52.5m for Tommy Kelly?), 10 reels of Raiders game film from the early 1960s are getting sold on eBay, along with a pile of Al Davis "autographs" apparently attached to canceled paychecks issued to the likes of Ken Stabler and Ted Hendricks. This is the second wave of Raiders relics to hit eBay in the last month. But, as it turns out, the Raiders' Dark Overlord isn't making a dime.

We first heard about the auction in April, from a post on fansinblack.com that claimed to have the inside scoop:

"The seller purchased a storage shed that had a lean [sic] on it for unpaid rent. It turns out, the renters were the Raiders … Inside the shed, he found THIRTY_EIGHT BOXES of Raiders history. Canceled checks to players and coaches, contracts, photos. and FILM,FILM, FILM! Game film of the earliest Raider games in the 1960-1965 area, as well as the 70s and 80s. He has not gone through all the boxes yet, so there may be many more treasures to come."

So the Master of Mayhem keeps a storage unit? Let your mind play with that idea for a minute. We did, and it made our skin crawl. But if Al Davis really does keep Art Shell's mojo in a mason jar, it hasn't shown up on eBay. Neither has the Marcus Allen voodoo doll. By the time we clicked over, even the canceled checks had been removed, leaving several reels of coaching film—the kind of thing Matt Walsh might have produced if he was 30 years older—described as part of an estate sale.

Team spokesman Mike Taylor knew about the auctions:

"We did learn about some old paychecks on eBay, and we did go through the ordinary channels to have them removed," he said. "That information is confidential: the names on the check, the player, what he got paid. It was inappropriate."

However, he could neither confirm nor deny the storage unit's existence, saying only, "we've never allowed any contract to lapse."

Go ahead, City of Irwindale and former Raiders coach Mike Shanahan. Hug it out.

Faced with a chance to buy low and sell high—if dollars translate to wins this year—we dropped a bid on a reel of game film from the Raiders' 1962 game vs. the Chargers, but the prices soon exceeded our meager budget. That reel sold for $202.50. Thirty days later, we've got another chance. The seller—known on eBay as akachuck—has brought out another round of film, along with the aforementioned "autographs," which look for all the world like chunks of paychecks.

Akachuck is actually Chuck's Warehouse, an antiques dealer in Anaheim, California. A guy named Michael Payan owns chuckswarehouse.com, and answered the phone when we called. But instead of doing somersaults over the free publicity, Payan cringed audibly (okay, that's not possible, but we can picture it), and refused to speak on the record. Turns out he's already neck-deep in a bitter legal battle with the estate of the late Cuban salsa queen Celia Cruz, and doesn't want to provoke the notoriously litigious Raiders to do the same.

He had a point, and that made us think twice. Do we want to provoke the notoriously litigious Raiders? We decided to double-check the original post from fansinblack.com, just to make sure we had all the facts straight.

The moderators had taken it down.

Re: Rams up for sale

True but both New York teams have us covered in that category. With regards to the thread the Rams have the best debt/value percentage of all teams! Speaking of debt, the NFL and its franchises are $9 Billion in debt now that's scary

So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

Not that I expected any less.

I know they played the reigning champions.

It's hard to believe (personally), after so many solid seasons, but I will be stoked with a 5-11.

****, I hope there's a ripper QB in line for us, Bulger is past it, all the injuries have finally caught up to him, he's slower, smaller and his arm has gone from rubber to rock.

The good thing is, things can only get better, but to be honest a huge overhaul is neccessary if we are even going to see some playoffs in the next 4 years.

SF mach2.

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

Two words : Jim Haslett.

Won't explain your offensive problems but he has a lot to answer for as a D co-ordinator. He's hopeless.

On the O, nobody was prepared to make the tough call on blokes holding out for more money. Either pay them early or stick to your guns. For two years now the O's most important players haven't been in camp until the preseason is almost over. Two years in a row the O has started the season poorly.

Sorry to say it but I reckon you're in for a world of pain this year . . . and the #1 pick. :)

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

I'll take the number 1 pick, as long as there is somebody amazing available. I haven't really been paying attention to this year's college crop (although I will be now).

Last years draft did go well, and hopefully they'll begin to come through next year, but other than that anybody who is half decent will retire in the next two years, and theres nobody in the middle pushing.

Oh and Haslett is an absolute spud.

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

This is my first season following NFL.

To me, they certainly look like one of the worst teams going around.

Might be waiting until week 13 for a win.

But it is a bit early to tell exactly how bad they are, they have just played 2 very good sides.

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

Its good isnt it, that should be two guaranteed wins for Big Red this season which takes us one step closer to the Playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

To the uneducated on paper your offensive team looks ok. Good QB, Good TE, Excellent RB, Excellent WR. From there on they stink, the Line is disgraceful, the whole defensive scheme reeks and the play calling was deplorable on the weekend.

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

I still see some hope for the Rams

We versed a really strong Phili Eagles team, and the NYG look even stronger then they were last season. This week is the week that matters. Seattle have injuries all over the place, a decent defense and a lucky offense. I can see the Rams winning this, I can still see the Rams reaching the playoff.

Anyways, I would hate to have the Rams follow the WCE season and only win the odd home game against a decent team.

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

Bulger is banged up.
Jackson is this seasons LJ
Holt is this seasons Harrison
And the O Line stinks.
Too old & banged up on offense and not talented enough on defense.

They're in real trouble.

Re: So, it's week 2, and the seasons over...

Bit harsh on SJax there isn't it JD? ;) :p

The trenches are the worst in football... And thats where its won, pure and simple... Can't win playing shotgun every down (Houston early years) or rely on a RB, despite their quality if there isn't actually a chance to see where everything is...

You will beat KC though :p If you played them...

The two QB bolters in next year's draft are Michael Stafford, Georgia and Tim Tebow, Florida keep an eye on them.
