Losing LeCras could make us better

I really believe that what we lose in terms of LeCras' skill and nouse around goal we COULD (as the thread title states) make up with someone who is desperate defensively up there.

Fact of the matter is, LeCras is a wonderful player with the ball in his hand - but defensively he's not the hardest worker around.

We haven't made teams sweat bringing the ball out since Phil Matera and the early days of Sampi.

Our zone looked pretty good whilst Lecca was still there.

The funny thing about yesterday's game IMHO is that Lecca looked most effective in the midfield yesterday. Hopefully Kerr comes back and makes a good replacement in the middle... and our make do fwd line (while Lecca was still on the ground) with Ebo and Nickoski works?

Lecras was basically being trialled in the middle and his first touch made him shine above everyone else. Clean grabs and steps the right way everytime to buy that extra half second in close.

Kerr = perfect replacement as nicoski and ebert were already being trialled up forward while lecras was on the ground.

As if it was in any doubt beforehand, but Woosha's career ended when LeCras was stretchered off.

Don't agree. If they play with the same passion and hunger as they did in round 1 all season Woosh will get a new contract for sure, regardless of how many games they win.

The main thing is we'll need to bring in a crumber type. We've got guys who can bring the ball to the ground (Kennedy, Lynch, Cox, Naitanui) but we need to have someone who can scoop it up and snap.

We'll miss LeCras deadly accuracy, that's for sure. He's a gun infront of the sticks, best in the comp.

Loving the positivity.

Can't see it personally though.

Having a guy of LeCras ilk gives our mids someone to kick to on a lead - and when he's in the midfield gives the younger guys some class to learn from.

He's a massive loss no matter which way it's sliced and diced.

I feel sad

The loss of Le Cras can only be a positive if others step up to fill his impact. This is basically up to Hams Strijk Ebert Darling and Kennedy. Will mean these guys get a chance to shine. Only positive of us losing our number1 forward

Long term it should be a benefit especially if someone can step-up and make the position their own.
Weedon or Broome needs to step up like they did in the WAFL on the weekend at the AFL level.

Short term losing you best player from the previous year doesn't make you a better side, though yes I feel he gets a bit of a free ride when it comes to lack of forward line pressure.

I liked Ebert's response when asked about LeCras and then being pointed out to him that LeCras kicked 60 odd goal last year, "maybe I'll kick 60 goals hten, who knows?" It was very flippant but I liked it! :thumbsu::D We can but dream, because the reality is a lot harsher. :(

10 weeks. Our best player from the last 4 years. Coming into him prime. Woe is me.

I have the feeling things are going to be pretty damn sucky without him. Poor bloke, he must be devastated after coming off such a high season last year.

Kerr in, this is his chance to prove everyone wrong about being a waste of space from ironically, the last 4 years. Good luck fellas now lets do this S**t

weedon or broome didnt need lecras to go down to cement a spot in the side,if either of them was ready, nico or hams wouldnt be in the side
we wont be a better side with Lecras out,Hopefully we wont be too much worse...
Really hoping that poobster swift wont bethe one to come into the side!!

i refuse to be sucked into a negative vortex at round 1...having like most just endured a tedious doom+gloom offseason on here..my glass will be half full for some time yet, if only to milk a mouses tit for a drop of joy from this season!!?? :D

There is nothing about loosing lecca that will make us better in the short term, but in a round about way it may bring us closer to a premiership in a few years time.

Firstly it will give a young guy an opportunity he wouldn't have had otherwise. Weedon being the most likely, getting a dozen or so games into him will be invaluable down the road.

Secondly it will force us to use other options in the forward line and not make us as one dimensional as we were in danger of being. The rest of the forwards will have to step up and try and make an impact.

In other words in will make our forward line better in the long term.

BRAD EBERT IS STARTING TO DEVELOP A FORWARD style SWERVABILITY

I reckon that he will start kicking 2-3 goals a game soon.

Got a suspicion that I think he thinks he might be able to do this abit.
He knows that he can outmark and knows he is a great defensive tackler with a big tank

We were never gonna make the finals this year. So having lecras out will will just allow us to get more quality game type into kennedy, darling and Nic nat.
These guys are the future of our forward line.
We can build this year and come back next year and be a genuine chance of making the 8.
