Autopsy Loss to Sydney - quite literally no words will adequately sum this up

Draw your own conclusions from such concerning behaviour
My conclusion would be that you're some pissweak half-wit who is so insecure that they think it's funny to troll other clubs boards after a game that didn't even involve your team. In which case you deserve everything you get, along with the miserable life you no doubt have.

Had a deep breath…

- Midfield balance was a huge tick from me today. Greenwood, Wardlaw and Phillips were tough as nails and didn’t allow much cheap junk out of the middle. What this does to our mix, not sure yet but may push Jy to a flank once LDU is back. And might make it tougher for Cunners to get back in.

- Coleman Jones, brilliant. I’d almost thrown in the towel on this bloke but to his credit he was really good I thought. Took some nice solid marks to open the play and a couple nice goals.

- Scott, enormous. Broke lines, played spare behind the ball, defensively much better. Really rapt with his game.

- Wardlaw, animal. Will be a great shinboner, can’t wait to see him once he has a tank.

- Sheezel, controlled the game in the second half. What a footballer.

- Intent and pressure were so much better. That should be the baseline of what’s expected, a drop off every once in a while should still be expected but that sort of effort and intent is what we should be getting consistently.

Much, much better. Not ready to talk about that finish yet…

I havent read one word on BF today as I had a belated Mother's Day catch up with my Mum. We got home and proceeded to watch the game. After just finishing watching, I am, like I am sure all of you, just shattered for the players. They fought so hard and to lose it due to no fault of their own is just so wrong. For an interchange infringment to rob the club of a win is just heartbreaking. I know it will mean nothing to them but I am so proud of the players.

Serious question - did the AFL Interchange Steward illegally approve a 76th interchange?

Given that the AFL Steward uses a Laptop, rather than pen and paper, they would have had a clear idea of how many changes had been made. Therefore should not have 'approved' the 76th. There is one AFL Steward for each team, so unlikely the person was otherwise distracted. . Even if the North person got it wrong, the 76th one would not have been approved by the AFL person. Unless North ignored the AFL Steward and went ahead anyway. It's truly bizarre

Oh yeah, *en oath.

That was awesome. In some ways losing like that is better than winning for these young kids. Cos they'll know that was stolen and they'll also know with a bit more effort of polish or practise they could have won anyway. That's something you can harness.

Not juts the anger but the feeling that with a bit more work we can win anyway whatever the opposition and the umps throw at us. Its a good lesson to learn.

If Sheeze and Warlord (and a few others) had kicked straight at points in that game we would have won anyway.

* those two are good tho.
Exactly. When this core develops they are going to be that ****ing ruthless on the opposition considering all the shit they've been through. It will be take no prisoners of the likes never seen before from North. Adversity builds resilience and strength. Wardlaw's attitude epitomises how we will play in the future (and sneakily Phillips as well).

that sux balls. but they need to believe…
wardlaw huge and plenty of other positives for next week.
really need to get clean possessions, still too many fumbles, panicked handballs and kicks.
reduce these and bring the effort and we improve dramatically.

Let’s face facts - the win/loss today doesn’t really matter. What really mattered was how the team played. For a change today, I watched the game from the standing area. I met a new fellow North supporter and ended up watching the whole game with him. In the third and fourth quarters, people witnessed two mid sixties guys high-fiving every North goal. What a day! Wardlaw, Sheezel, Phillips, Powell, Ford, Simpkin, CCJ, Scott, Bergman. Great stuff all round. Howe looked so assured when he came on as well. So happy for him and the team. The final score is meaningless and doesn’t mirror the game in any way. Four or five “out of bounds on the full” from inside 35 metres is, probably, what cost us in the end. That and some incredible pieces of brilliance by Sydney’s blonde superstar.

I haven't checked the stats but Hall was elite with the ball. Scott played better then I have ever seen. Two of the whipping boys.

The youngsters all showed something at various stages.

Goldy shows no sign of age.

Watched the game in Otranto!

Trying to piece this one together as well. Same concept is mentioned in the AFL playing conditions also, and also that "a team official" has to advise the number of the player coming off before they come off:

So if our official has to notify of the 76th interchange before it happens (and no-one has suggested they failed to), what the hell else does "approve" mean, if not that you'd disapprove the illegal change before it happens also? It's in absolutely no-one's interests for a game to turn on a free and 50 like this if it can be proactively prevented, and the natural read of those laws seems to suggest it should be.

But as bad as the look is for the entire sport, technical restrictions may well have been breached, and the penalty might have been correct to the letter of the law. Zoning in solely on that does a disservice to a performance from our side that absolutely deserved to see them walk off winners, and that will hopefully serve as the breakout game we need to finally escape this interminable rut. It also masks how utterly pathetic the umpiring in the first half in particular was, when HTB laws changed depending on the colour of the ball-carrier's jumper, blatant throws were ignored, and medical staff were penalised for the audacity of trying to attend to the welfare of a player who'd just been whacked in the head. Whatever the right outcome was re: the interchange infringement, everyone here is wholly justified in their anger at what we had to contend with today. Hopefully that too galvanises us.

Section 7 of the rules of the game don’t seem to specify what the umpire’s response should be after the interchange steward notifies them that a team has exceeded 75.
Utterly bizarre stuff.
Covered in the league's playing conditions - I guess because the cap doesn't apply in lower competitions?

Yep thats what i'm getting at - if the role of the AFL Stewards is to monitor AND APPROVE any interchanges, surely an interchange is stopped before it happens if it isn't approved? And that is why there are no penalties listed in the rules because there is no way to technically 'breach' that rule as no interchanges can be made without approval? Bizarre is right!

Yes, but also:

Out of the centre, swans player grabs the ball, tackled, chickenwinged so can't possibly handball. Throws it, immediate goal. Umpire was 4-5 m away with a clear view.

On the wing, Swans player injures his hand, so throws the ball at a team mate, again the umpire is right there with a direct view. Swans score.

Our steward ****ed up, and should be drowned in an ice bath. But they never should have been within 3 points for it to matter.
Agree got gifted 3 goals in the second quarter when we were coming back at them

Loved the effort, this is what we need to bring every week
