In a continuing theme, I am pulling apart club lists, player by player, to have a better understanding of where I reckon they will finish in 2002, and why.

At this stage there are some rumours about delistings, but I have seen nothing concrete yet, so I will include all players at this stage.

I try my best to be fair and unbiased, have a look, see if you agree or disagree, and be specific if you want to have a go at me.

Damien Adkins :- Should have made HF his own by now
Dale Baynes :- Dud
Rupert Betheras :- Should have done more by now
Nathan Buckley :- Teams Rolls Royce
Scott Burns :- Meat and potatoes hard worker
James Clement :- Surprised with very good 2001
Jason Cloke :- Looked great in the 1 junior game I saw
Leon Davis :- Flashy, but very inconsistent
Nick Davis :- Great kick, concentration wanders though
Alan Didak :- My tip for 2002 Rising Star winner
Andrew Dimattina :- Dud
Josh Fraser :- The future of the Pies, will be very good
Glenn Freeborn :- Can do a job, bit player now
Brodie Holland :- Freo will regret losing him
Ben Johson :- Needs extra speed and skills
Ben Kinnear :- That extra tall down back, lots of work to do
Tyson Lane :- Back up player at best now
Paul Licuria :- Under-rated midfielder, good over the ball
Tarkyn Lockyer :- Has a bit of mongrel
Ryan Lonie :- Revelation off half back
Steven McKee :- Hack
Jarrod Molloy :- Strong man with great presence
Shane O'Bree :- Very good in midfield mix
Simon Prestigiacomo :- Disciplined, but needs more size
Guy Richards :- Yet to see him play
Mark Richardson :- Back up workhorse at best
Chad Rintoul :- Lacks pace, can do a job
Danny Roach :- Yet to see him play
Anthony Rocca :- Runs out of puff too easily
Heath Scotland :- Has great toughness, query attitude
Rhyce Shaw :- Lots of pace, has to find more of the ball
Carl Steinfort :- Useful tagger
Nick Stone :- Yet to see him play
Chris Tarrant :- Will be great if the mind stays focused
Brent Tuckey :- Seems lost on the field, needs a position
Andrew Ukovic :- Should have done a lot more by now
Shane Wakelin :- V. good 1st half of 2001
James Wasley :- Dud, fast, but still a dud

Given natural improvement, the Pies should be in the lower part of the 8 in season 2002. Some exciting kids to continue with their growth, but some team holes still to be covered, or will be held together by stop gap measures. This will stop them from being a serious premiership contender in 2002.

Overall things look okay for the young Pies

Fair assessment Chris. Really cant argue with any. Except maybe Rintoul. He was in blistering form before breaking his leg against Essendon, and although he played another few games, he never really got over it. Look for him next year to be among the best.

Stone and Baynes have officially been delisted...

As a follow up, I've done all the team lists, and comparisons. The Pies look to be consolidating their squad for the long haul. A question of height and quality in defence still remains though. They have a good spread of young talent, who can score goals, and do it fairly quickly, this fact on its own will win a share of games.

A methodical build-up will be rewarded next year by a long awaited return to the top 8.

My prediction is for the Pies to finish season 2002 in 7th position
