Imagine if the AFL did a deal with the Immigration Department to force aspiring immigrants to support Gold Coast Suns and buy a membership ticket.
Just randomly looking through the AFL tables and was looking at the early 70's. Two things struck me, Geelong had two players with the same letters in their surname, Jeff Kline, and Graeme Linke playing in the same side a few times....Have there been many other cases of 'Perfect anagrams' of names in the same game?
And another for maybe older Kangaroo fans, Peter Chisnall, a diminutive rover played three seasons from 1968-1970, then had a three season hiatus before resuming in 1974 through to 1976. Looking at Wikipedia may he have just stopped playing footy to ply his trade as a butcher for those three seasons? I guess back in that era, and the Roos were not much chop in the late 60's, perhaps the job paid better than the footy at the time. But he enjoyed playing in the Kangaroo's inaugural Premiership in 1975 during his second stint.

Thanks RTB....Gee i should have remembered Fowler and Flower, as i kind of remember even as a 10 y/o how similar their names were. Forgot about the one season ex-Kangaroo John Burns playing with Bruns at Geelong in '79 too. Ellis and Lisle is a good get as you need to have a good look to see the anagram there. Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi finished his 27 Test Match career with a result of 9 wins, 9 draws and 9 losses.

But in late 1989 he was announced as senior coach at New Norfolk, this time in the TFL Statewide League, which generated great enthusiasm in the district once again.
Had them sitting on top of the ladder at one stage during 1990 before they fell away in the back half of the season and bombed out to Sandy Bay in the Elimination Final by 89 points.
He coached them again in 1991 and 1992 but no success was to come their way, missing the finals both years, and he quit as coach of New Norfolk following the 1992 season and was replaced by Darren Dennemann
He was the ABC-Television "Boundary Rider" on their TFL match broadcasts in the 1993 season before taking on the Launceston coaching job when they joined the TFL in 1994, he coached them to a winless season in 1994, had them again in 1995 but something tells me I don't think he lasted that entire season out (I could be wrong - I can't remember back that far now).
Following that season, he left Tasmania for good.
I liked him, found him a very genuine and passionate bloke, but I think the modern game had passed him by by the early 90s.
Here's a couplè of good articles with Chisnall at New Norfolk.
First is in 1978 when he had the players train doing ballet in the pre-season!
New Norfolk being New Norfolk, ballet was seen as somewhat homosexual at the time, probably still is up there.
The second one is from Tas-TV's World of Sport in a 1990 TFL roster match when New Norfolk hosted Burnie Hawks at Boyer Oval to try and sneak into the top five for the first time since 1985.
Pottering through Paul's AFL tables and i was looking at Essendon's record of wins, losses and draws. Noticed that in their finals they've played the Bulldogs four times for two wins and losses.
From a Geelong perspective the aggregate score for the four finals was 239 points (Being Geelong's record AFL score), but it was interesting the two ways that was compiled. Essendon had scored a rather inaccurate 31.53 to accumulate their 239 points, whilst the Dogs managed to do it by scoring 35.29.239. Geelong's was 37.17.239.
So the Bombers had 20 extra scoring shots in those four finals, but just interesting that in their finals meetings the Bombers and Dogs are totally evenly matched with 2-2 and 100% records each of two.

The inaccuracy aspect with the behinds also reminds me of how Geelong tended to be much more inaccurate than the Hawks in a period of games, starting from the 2008 Rd 17 clash and through to the 2nd home and away game in 2013....the Preliminary final in 2013 that the Hawks won was against the grain with their 14.18.102 beating Geelong's 15.7.97.
In that group of 13 games the Cats and Hawks played, the net scores were Geelong 179.186. 1260, while the Hawks scored 172.147. 1179
13 games, 12 Geelong wins, one Hawk win, and only 81 points difference. But the Cats outscored the Hawks by 7.39!! Tough way to get 81 points for sure.

You may be right, which perhaps explains why he received the lowest total of prize money. Maybe the $25,000 was a compromise amount.
