People forget that he missed nearly the entire season in 2007. Not many players find touch quickly after a lay off that long. He is just starting to get a feel for the game again.

He made good space a few times on the wing in the last 10 minutes and had some vital and effective possessions and disposals in that time. He doesn't seem to be playing a pivital role in the backline, more a floating role as the extra man back.

He may have been seen to have an ordinary game but actually redeemed himself in the last quarter IMO

The nervous feeling I get when he has the ball I guess suggests that I'm not confident in him at times and the decision making makes me a little vocal at the TV.

His height and ability to some times make awkwardness effective though seem to make him more an asset in my eyes.

Agree with others unlucky to not get Norm Smith in 05

In my view, he's really a vital player for us. His size and his engine are great assests and with him and Ted Richards in the backline, allows CB to take a medium/small and help out in the rebounding (since we really don't have any good small defenders - Bevan is much better as a forward/midfield tagger than a small back in my opinion).

I think a lot of players played well in the 4th, so I'm not sure how high he would be, but his disposal skills have definitely improve - I think our kicking coaching had done pretty well in the summer. Still perfer to have the likes of Malceski and Kennelly near him when he has the ball though :D

Astute, nice one

absolutely. His game against Richo was a good example of how vital he is.

The umpires give LRT a rough trot. Against the eagles he was hit in the head a couple of times without a whistle being blown.

I thought LRT worked hard to present as an option, but made some ordinary decisions with his disposals. Got found out during the brief period he was on Lynch, but don't think that match up was ever going to do him any favours.

I thought Ted was our standout defender in the first half. Surprised that others are saying he was poor.

Ted was outstanding all night long. Nearly his best game for the club.

he proberley got in the head by his own knees

LRT is an essential part of our team. Without him the defence is out of balance - his presence allows B2 to roam around and get creative. Richo is LRT's bunny- in the Richmond game LRT played loose man in defence when Richo went roaming, but as soon as Richo went forward, LRT wore him like a glove. His major failing is that when confronted with the midfield flood he is hopeless. Having said that I nearly put my shoe through the telly when he was caught ball watching and conceded that easy goal to Seaby.

LRT might be big and awkward and not adept enough NOT to get out of his own way !!!

BUT... he Always gives a contest and regularly puts his body on the line. With our relatively small backline consisting of Barry at 184 cms, Bolton 190 cms, Mattner 188 cms, Kennelly 189 cms, and Malceski 188 cms.

LRT at 196cms gives us the flexibility of having someone to go with the taller forwards. I thought he did a more than servicable job on Lynch and at times I had to pinch myself with the manner in which he rebounded off half back to shut down Richo the previous game.

His field kicking and running has improved and he moves the ball on far quicker than he used too :thumbsu:

G'day fellow Swans...
First post, but I've been reading the board with excitement.
LRT has always been a topic of interest for me.

The biggest issue I find with his game are his eyebrows. They're outrageous. Massive, weighty caterpillars that are ruining his vertical leap. If he insists on keeping the thickness, then perhaps he should tint them to his hair colour (or vice versa). The change would make him more popular with the ladies, and therefore improve his on-ground confidence.
There really hasn't been enough research into AFL players’ grooming - a glaring oversight - and this could well be damaging the modern game.

Other grooming decisions that have directly affected player performance are listed below...

Max Rooke (Geelong) - had a sensational beard last year and consequently played in a Grand Final. This year however, the beard was banished and down the plughole it went (despite salvage efforts in Port Phillip Bay; they even began dredging to find it again). Now Rookie's struggling to maintain his spot in the Geelong outfit... Hardly a coincidence.

Gary Ablett Jnr. (Geelong) - this one’s a true hair success story. Last year Ablett was good, but something was still holding him back. Wispy hair perhaps? Now in Season 08, after a good shave, Jnr. is dominating. Perhaps if he still had the old ‘do his last quarter efforts against us in round 5 wouldn’t have been quite so impressive…

Nathan Carroll (Melbourne) – Shocking cut. Shocking season. He’s cleaned it up a bit now, but it seems too little too late.

Lance Frankin (Hawthorn) – his season got even better last week, kicking 9 goals. No surprise considering he had a trim around the sides (an effort that increased his speed and intensity).

These were just a few examples of the good and the bad. I’m sure there are countless others. In the coming weeks I’ll be presenting my completed thesis to Paul Roos, the leadership group and the Sydney board.

Hopefully, the actions taken as a result of this research will be a positive for not only LRT, but the club in general.

Thanks Grimlock (are there any other BigFooty Dinobots?),

There will be more posts to come...
There are a few slags around and there are few I would like to snarl at, but sadly no.

Cool avatar btw, makes me want a Grimlock in a Swans guerney avatar

I'm not sure if Grimlock would wear a guernsey...he wasn't much of a team player...although, he often got angry like Big Bad Bustling Barry Hall.
Now all I can picture is Bazza saying "Me Barry. Me leader of forwards. Me want ball. Kick to me."

Sorry LRT fans but I still hate him. As much as I am loathe to admit it, he is improving, and I don't have many rational reasons left for my hatred, so I will just say that I hate him and I will refrain from posting further in this thread...! :D

whatever you do
dont say that to jessi from the melbourne based cheer squad haha
she would literally kill you. no joke
take it from me haha

but yeah he's never been anything great...though he IS definitely getting better

possibly the best post i have ever seen!!

Now I am one of those fans who never rubbish the team!

Ok McVeigh and Davis cop a smack now 'n again (never have I slagged Benny SS:thumbsu:)

But was really impressed with LRT's debut year and really honestly thought he had gaaaawn... just not up to it in 2004.

He runs funny and he should stop getting his MUM to trim his fringe but INVALUABLE! .. last year the Swans missed his height in defence massively!

I had an itch to recently re watch 2005 GF:D... just checkin whether the DVD had worn out yet!!!

LRT was bloooooody sensational. He had only 48 AFL games under his belt! and I agree with OP even though Fossy Kirk even bloody Mickey O et al may have been influencial he didn't lose the game (potential) ... but was probably if you were a media hack our BOG!:thumbsu:

So I presented him with my own special award see below pictured during acceptance speech!! Yes he had a haircut too!

I just want to know if I'm blinded by my faith but I thought he was one of our better four-quarter players last night
yet others are once again questioning why he even plays

They just replayed the game on Fox, so I watched it in full again, 3rd sitting.

Anybody who thinks 'Two dads' played poorly needs to watch the game again, this time without the tainted glasses.

He was actually amongst our better players, certainly a long way from a shocker.

IMHO of course.
