It's great that we've won the premiership and all, but there's an elephant in the room and I'm gonna be the one to point it out.

2 weeks ago I was in love with Luke. I even started a thread on it here.

After today I'm not really sure his heart is with the club. I didn't see him smile after winning the premiership. He didn't once refer to himself as associated with Collingwood, ie 'we'. It was always 'they'. Nor did he say he was happy for himself - just for 'them'. He looked pretty torn, I thought. Very uncomfortable with the situation.

He was pivotal in us winning the big one, from actual effort to the knowledge and experience he brings to the youngsters. It is the only negative about a day like today.

I think its called being a gracious winner and not what you have read into it, he has played his guts out for us all year.

Understand his feelings.

His heart and soul was at St Kilda and he poured blood, sweat and tears into the club for them.
Unfortunately for him he wasn't able to complete the fairytale there but he also put his body on the line to help win a flag for us and I'm eternally grateful for that.

Not his fault he couldn't help the Saints win the flag.

The guy has played his heart out for 7 years for the Saints, it must be pretty hard emotionally to be basically told your not a part of this club going FWD and then put up for trade.....Was always a gun player an injuries have cut a guy up probably more than anyone else at his perceived ability...This guy could have been anything with a 100% body, but none the less even if he is 80% he fits the Pies mould....Side by Side.

Tough day for him, but at the end of the day his footy smarts talked and got us a hand on the Holy Grail again.

I did see him though after he picked up his GF medallion have a little moment and give it a kiss very emotionally.

On another note, does ant1 else think Ed's son looks a little like Tooves......Maybe a future controversial father son:D

He was torn. Despite the BS the Saints spread about him being a money hungry mercenary he was ultimately a loyal player who was forced out through no choice or fault of his own. He would've been happy to earn a premiership medal, but not so happy to earn it at the expense of the mates he's gained throughout pretty much his entire footballing career. If anything it should only increase your respect for him and his integrity as a person.

He joined in the lap of honour at the end of the game. Got to the great southern stand and was holding the cup aloft with Dawsey. This was taken as photo and the shot was plastered on the screen at the G, the two of them. Bally was grinning from ear to ear. He made the right choice, he knows it.

Loving your work Bally!

Actually thought he showed a bit of character today. Wasn't whooping it up in his former team mates faces after the game. Obviously undergoing some emotional turmoil at the end with all manner of emotions running through him. Hasn't forgotten where he came from.

Did you watch him lasy year GF? He was inconsolable after saints lost to Geelong.. If anything i reckon he is a man of character as today he felt for his mates from st kilda and was humble. He wasnt jumping for joy and i respect that..

On annother note how coome in this time of absoulte joy one of us start a thread about something so minor? why must we always focus on the negative?

Dont try to read to much into it. He was cut by the saints & we picked him up & gave hij an opportunity. He took it against his old club. Its fully understandable for him to be a bit 'uncomfortable' today. He did his job well today & all we wanted.

I shared similar observations good.

But I think if you check out Mick's post game press conference that should clear up some questions. Certainly cleared up all my questions I had of him on this topic.

Ball was pretty worked up during the week about it. Mick goes on to say that his expectations of himself were of the level of Ablett/Judd and that Mick just wanted Luke Ball to play like Luke Ball.

With it being against St Kilda and seeing all his old team mates fail again it is really hard emotionally on him emotionally. But later clips of him celebrating in the rooms with the boys I think he had returned back to the moment and the joy of being part of the Collingwood Football Club and part of a premiership winning side had returned.

Also an interesting side notes:
Luke Ball + Darren Jolly will now after that premiership be remembered as Collingwood players after being involved in the premiership team. Particularly Ball who didn't experience this success with St Kilda.
Both well and truely Collingwood now. Great recruits and in the end turned out to be the final pieces to the premiership puzzle.

HS have an article up about Luke, it sounds like he was disappointed for his old mates (especially Lenny Hayes) but is still happy that he won the premiership with Collingwood.

Dreadful call.

If you don't think his heart is in it, just watch the replay again and see how he put his body on the line for us.

He showed pure class by showing concern for his former team mates and in many cases, friends, after the game. He would also know the heartbeak of losing a GF from last year.

The only time I can remember someone from a winning GF rubbing it into the opposition after a GF was Carlton president George Harris in 1979. We don't need scum like Harris at our club, we need players with character like Luke Ball.

Ditto Darren Jolly.

I understand what the Op is saying...

but i take it as a sign of his absolute character, that despite the terms of his departure,

and the subsequent treatment of him by minority of saints' fans, he still has such empathy

for the teammates that he previously loved, eg Lenny Hayes.

He understood their pain when the final siren blew.

But no-one can doubt his commitment and passion for collingwood.. just watch how he plays

He's best friends in life would probably be at St.Kilda because from 18 years old that's about the time you bond with guys that'll be your life long friends so you can understand the empathy he has for them. He also use to be captain for 1 year under Grant Thomas.
Thought it was actually a nice moment.

You can't question the way he has played for us though.

It's just Ross Lyon he has a problem with, and hopefully Milne as well

You're kidding me right?

The man didn't want to rub it in the noses of his former teammates. All class.

He was still wearing his jumper at AAMI Park, and when he was introduced to the crowd, he grabbed at the emblem and showed the crowd. His heart is definitely at Collingwood, don't you worry about that.

Sydney Swans say hi.

Gave him an opportunity and made him into a very good ruckman. I have no respect for Jolly (most sydney supporters don't) as he had no respect for the club. Was glad to see the back of his head.

Anyways, Congratulations on today :thumbsu:

well we have certainly saved the dumbest thread of the year to last havn't we. The bloke was in the top 3 players on the ground IMO and you say his heart was not in it.

When bally got up on stage at aami opened his jacket and showed his jumper it was just about the highlight of the day for me. Just because he is gracious towards close friends does not mean his heart is not in it.

Disgraceful thread. Luke ball showed what true sportsmanship is, I thought he was not only humble in victory but showed empathy for the blokes he fought tooth and nail beside for 7 years and whilst wrapped to win the flag no-one could begrudge him feeling for his former team mates, this kind of sportsmanship is why the man is regarded so highly. No idea why some moron would start a thread like this when we have just won the 2010 premiership FFS.

Yeah, mustve been hard for him.

A lot of upset mates sitting down in Saints colors. All feeling that gutted feeling he was feeling last year.

I actually felt a bit sorry for him. Wouldve taken som of the joy out of the occasion.

Really mustve had mixed emotions.

Handled himself well I thought.
