This is an interesting article from a few year ago. Talks about how Brendan McCartney built the foundation for the Bulldogs’ success in 2016 by having a big focus on contested ball when he was there, while Beveridge came in and added to it by focusing on other aspects. Is it possible that McCartney made a stronger contribution than everyone thought?

If I was West Coast, I'd sound Bevo out about a move to Western Australia. It'd need a 5 year deal to get him to think about it but there's no harm in trying.

In 10 seasons at the Bulldogs, he's either made a grand final, lost an elimination final or missed the 8 completely.

A Melbourne fan commenting on the AFL thing them gifts 😂. Darcy was father son. How'd you guys get Viney?
lol. pointing out our only good father/son in about 30 years isn't a burn mate. You're talking about the least gifted club in the afl when it comes to father/sons and NGA's. Your list is built solely on it and to not make a granny is inexcusable. He has to go.

For what exactly? Bloke's a complete nutter. Wouldn't want him anywhere near the team.

BMac did say when he came into the coaching position in 2012 that it would take five years before we would be contending… 🤔

However, after three years we seemed not to be improving, and morale was very low, with good players, including the captain, bailing out.

So it’s hard to think what was achieved in those three years, other than the recruitment of Marcus Bontempelli 🙂, as well as Jack Macrae, Jake Stringer and Lachie Hunter.

Fewest points conceded in the league this season, a high performing midfield that was top echelon in every key stat, and had several big men put out strong seasons, and the club still didn't have a finals win to show for it. They haven't won a final in the last three seasons. Pretty inexcusable. The list balance is all out of whack

Our list is good at the top but we don't have great depth. Our bottom 6 aren't that great. End of the day there's 18 blokes out on the field

Who in the 22 who played last Friday are father/son or NGA? If our father sons are better than yours it's hardly a gift. It's luck of the draw champ. I look forward to your response.

huh? Ugle-Hagan, Darcy, Liberatore.

Yeah, it's luck as you said. Hence a gift of good luck. And dogs have had more luck than arguably any other team.

They should be winning multiple flags with these gifts.

Have we really though? Collingwood literally have their captain, their reigning best and fairest and their best player (3 separate players) all from father sons, as well as a handy defender in Quaynor as part of the NGA.

Reckon Geelong and Collingwood would have probably faired better over the years. Not sure how this is a gift from the AFL. A gift would be a priority pick or bringing Jackson and Roos to look after a rabble club. Didn't you like your gifts in Viney et al?

Well the AFL could've changed the rules before Ugle-hagan got drafted. They knew that the number 1 pick was going to go to a near top 4 team but chose to look the other way. So that's the gift.

And no, a priority pick is given after you perform miserably for a whole season. So you certainly don't get it for free. Only after a lot of pain. Yeah, Viney is our 1 decent gift in 30 years. Many clubs have had up to 10 or even 15. So even mentioning Viney isn't achieving anything.

So ultimately, responsibility needs to fall on Bevo. There's no excuses for not at least making a granny with what he has at his disposal.

That's because Melbourne have always been completely filled with duds😂

All you need to day about Melbourne is pick 2 for James Frawley 🤪

Melbourne was rewarded for admitted tanking and the AFL looked the other way.

You have no right to bitch and moan

Drafted since 2010 (year chosen because some of these players are still playing)
Bulldogs 7 (719 total games as Wikipedia article here) 6 still playing (2 on a different team) 4 selected inside top 30 picks
Collingwood 6 (471 total games) 3 still playing 3 selected inside top 30
Geelong 4 (191 total games) 1 still playing 0 selected inside top 30 picks
(if you want to add Hawkins who was drafted in 2006 it is 550 games but that is outside the criteria).
