I'm disappointed that McGrath was given the chop. He played a lot of games for us this year, and was a great player for us in his role as a tagger. I would've like to have seen him given a 1 year contract to see him improve his kicking more.

To all the de-listees so far. Thank you for your service to the Carlton Football Club. Good luck in the future.

Full credit to all the input and effort our delistees have put into the Carlton Footy Club during the time they have been here.

1. Ian Prendergast - Was a very handy player and I appreciate the effort and the commitment he had towards playing at the Carlton Footy Club. Hopefully he gets picked up by another club or a VFL club - preferably the Northern Bullants. And I will never forget that winning Super-Goal that you kicked in the Wizard Cup GF v the WCE in 2005. Good luck in the future Prenda!!!
2. Trent Sporn - Was a good player but has had a shocking run with injury during his career at Carlton. I thought he may have had one more year but it wasn't to be. I doubt it if he would get picked up by another AFL club but then again he may be given a rookie spot or something. If not then hopefully he can be picked up by a VFL club - like Prenda, preferably the Northern Bullants. Good luck in the future Spornie!!!
3. Troy Longmuir - Was a decent enough player and could win a match off his own boot football wise but has really struggled with injury and form in recent seasons. He may get picked up by another club again, someone like a Geelong for instance, or he may get plucked from a VFL club or head back to Perth and play for a club in the WAFL. Good luck in the future Troy!!
4. Luke Livingston - I think it was about time this bloke got chucked out the door. Has had his chances but just can't cut it at AFL level. Should get plucked out by a VFL club, he isn't a bad VFL player. Maybe he might go to the Borough or Coburg or maybe the Bullants. Good luck in the future Livo!!!
5. Cory McGrath - I consider him as a very good and handy player. He was very unlucky to be given the chop but thats footy. Unfortunate but we all move on. He may get another chance at another club, might get picked up by North or Melbourne for instance, or maybe he'll get plucked from a VFL club - hopefully the Bullants. Good enough player to succeed. Thanks for your service Macca, you've been good for us. Good luck in the future Macca!!
6. Jesse Smith - Thought that he was a bit unlucky to be given the chop but at the end of the day he probably just wasn't good enough. Good VFL player so he may get picked up by a VFL club - hopefully the Bullants. Thanks for your service and efforts Smithy!!
7. Daniel Batson - I thought that he should've been elevated to the senior list but then again he may be re-drafted as a rookie again. If not, well, he may be plucked out by a VFL club - hopefully the Bullants. Thanks for your service and efforts Batto!!!

Personally, I think there will be at least another 2 delistings.

Others who may be delisted:

- Jordan Bannister
- David Teague
- Callum Chambers
- Justin Davies
- Jason Saddington
- Ryan Houlihan

Why would we delist Houlihan? he is one of our best ball users. He may be to scared to cop a hit but he is one of our best

batson = dead wood coundn't get out of the bullants res
can't beleave people wont him elevated

smith not up to it

livingston had his time

mcgrath unlucky but need to move forward

davis chambers teague(but will be saved by contract) all also need to go

Exactly.

Get rid of the turnover merchants who really really hurt us constantly.

CHeers

Mcgrath was delisted ahead of Chambers, Teague, Davies, Bannister!

Seriously Mcgrath would have played close to 20 games this year, The other three (though Davies was injured) didn't play 10 collectively.

My question is why can't we just delist all our players in one go like every other club? It would avoid all sorts of pointless arguments like "I can't believe we delisted Mcgrath a week earlier than Chambers"

All I've seen from other clubs is dribs and drabs. As indicated players go on holidays and come back at different times. They are informed as soon as they get back so they can start making other arrangements.
So the club has three options:
Delsit as a group early, and some of those delisted will hear about it over the phone.
Delist as a group late, and some will have been back inMelbourne for weeks assumiong they will be a Blue in 2007.
Delist as they present, in smaller groups.
I can only assume that Chambers and maybe Davies or Teague are still on holidays. If anyone knows that they definetley are not then they are either safe, or we haven't settled on who to drop - waiting onother clubs to see who's available?

Who was delisted first is irrelevent and doesn't show any insight into their contribution to the Carlton footy club. I'm sure that Carlton has already decided on their entire list of delistees but is announcing them in stages as some players might still be on holidays and haven't been told yet. Wait till all delistings are announced before making a judgement on whether the club has done the right thing as if Chambers is delisted next week, it doesn't mean that he was closer to staying on the list than McGrath.

Because guts is something that cannot be instilled in a player. A person simply has it, or doesn't have it.

Without guts, you do not even get to grand finals, let alone win them.

Has Houlihan got guts?
You tell me.

You know, Alex Marcou played in 3 premierships, yet had a tail a mile long. David Glascott was similar. What made them important members of our premiership sides was their skill and finesse. Every club needs at least a couple of players who can do a bit of fancy stuff. Houlihan is currently our most consistent player, skill wise. More telling, though, is that he was our #2 player in hard ball gets this season. He is here to stay.

Alex was my favourite player when I was a kid. I nearly died the first time I saw him get caught with the ball - it took a lot of years for someone to do it. Braddles would be one of my top 5 players of all time to watch. Unreal athlete in every sense of the word. Unreal understanding of the game. Unbelieveable ability to read the game.

Where would these 2 play today?
Where would they be drafted if they were kids in tomorrows draft?

Yep, they were unreal players, but the game is changing. A stat in the hard ball get coulmn doesn't mean jack in my book. I'll watch them off the ball and see where their heart is. The first time they shirk a bump these days you can bet your last dollar that an opposition coach somewhere will pick it up, and then play on it for the rest of the players' career.

They say that the 70's footy was the toughest. I reckon most of those blokes would have their eyes closed, and they'd be praying, the game after someone ran at them in their first game in the modern league.

A weak heart is a weakness these days, and that's all the modern coach needs to know.

What is with all the Houlihan hate on this board?

He's been a great player for us this year. Has great poise, and great foot skills. He also came second in the Hard Ball Get category. FFS!

If you look back at it I made a list of who might be delisted. I didn't say that those players should be or are going to be delisted I said that they are a chance to get delisted. But on your point, yes, I agree with you. His precise kicking skills are very, very good at times but he does do some clangers. And we pay big time for it, he scares me every time he gets the ball cause I don't know what he's gonna do with it. He makes some stupid decisions sometimes and against the really top sides we cop it - especially when he was played in defence!! Yes, 2006 was a really encouraging and consistent year from Houla so let's hope that he can back it up in 07.

Ask Matt Rosa. Who else in our side bumped someone and KO'd them & had to go to the tribunal? Is that the type of gutsy efforts you want to see?

Or remember the big hit he copped in the head in the Freo game early this year but kept on playing. Would you call that a gutsy effort?

Me too - he is actually one guy who worked his ass off this year - not beautiful skills - but one of the only players to run 100 metres to create space for our full back to kick to! Agree that Chambers should go before McGrath - two 9 pointers in a Wizard Cup - whoop de doo!

Looks like a press release.

If true, the de-listing of Batson is an interesting one.........maybe making way for another young ruck. Not meaning Leuenberger in particular (although it possible), but possibly Cartiledge via PSD?

McGrath probably unlucky. Hasn't been my favourite player, but gives 100% each week. Good news for Jordan Russell. Will probably slot into the backline and make a push for the midfield next year.

Smith - unfortunate, but when you're a rookie you need to make every post a winner. He had two shots, didn't make either of them winners.

Livo - the nightmare has ended for you........relax and enjoy being dominant in country footy somewhere.

He might not be a bad psd pick up for another team - maybe he could play as a forward somewhere else. He should have picked up a few pointers while getting his ass kicked so often - not to mention he was a forward before coming to Carlton.

I think it would be better to inform each of them personally ASAP but not announce them until ALL are informed. There's no real urgency to announce them straight away (deadline is Oct 31) and it would look better to announce them all at the same time.

Lets face none of these players were ever going to be a part of our future so whether they went this year or next year is irrevelant.
I'm just astounded that david teague has survived the cut. whoever signed teague to a 2 year contract in 2005 should be hung out to dry.

Didn't he win B&F in 04 or something like that?

Underrated.
Houlihan should be playing half forward, his use of the footy could really hurt opposition teams and i know that Fev likes it when he sees Hoops running towards him with the footy.
Mcgrath is desperately unlucky, somebody bagged his foot skills earlier, this is an entire team problem not just one player.
Livo was a CHF played at Full Back in a team going through its worse 5 years in its entire history.
Chambers has to go and from what i am led to believe Davies back injury was that debillatating he could be barely walk up stairs without being in pain.
