Luke McPharlin

If McPharlin plays on we will have to delist someone else won't we to get to our mandatory minimum of three? Who is left?

Easy Simpson makes 3 plus any trading that takes place.

I honestly believe that we must be looking at moving one or two players at the moment and it appears to be between Griff and Clarke. But don't be surprised if there is a left field announcement such as Sylvia, C Pearce or even DeBoer despite his signing.

McPharlin won't play on if it means we are out of the running for Frawley. The club won't allow that anyway and would have told him as much.

If McPharlin is going to only play 15 odd games where does that leave Silvagni?

If he's stuck playing ~8 games surely he'd be slightly peeved. Could easily be starting 22 for another team (if he weren't contracted).

Go Luke, one more time!
If he can kick on one year with a maximum of 15 games for the season ( I see him playing 12), and only in the big away games and selected home games, without featuring in a Derby.

If he can get through to finals he would be a massive asset. But that has yet to be seen in our push in the last 2 years.

For those worried about player development etc. we are not in that window IMO. We are chasing a flag, so best available get the go and opportunity. To have the option of Johnson, Dawson, McPharlin and Silvagni would be a luxury. Like this year though, the chances of all been fit is unlikely. For a shot at a decent finals run we need 3 of the 4. Coming against Port we had 1.

One point to note about Luke is that he has missed a lot of footy in his career, so if the stars aligned he may have one good year left in him (if managed) with less trips, more rest rounds etc.

Anyway, up to Luke. If he can he will, and I am sure most of us want him on the list as a player to bring in as required.

I'd be stoked if we successfully implemented a reduced playing load routine for McPharlin and whoever else needs it. Connoly introduced the rotation policy. Maybe we can make this work. Will have to deal with short term nuffies after we lose an away game but in the grander scheme of things I think it is worth it.

I am a definite supporter of this. I'd like to see some of the younger guys able to get some experience here and there when a player rests but managing it so it won't affect whether we win or lose a game. Win/win. The older legs get some rest and the young guys get experience.

Delisting a recent first round draft pick is certainly not an easy decision, especially after he showed what he is capable of in his 1 game this season.
Could be rookied. Pitch put menegola, bring in simpson. Sounds like a go if clancee, suban, griff, mdb and clarke are all at the club next year.

Yep, if Simpson is doing ok the best he can expect is to be rookied. I honestly have no fears about any club trying to grab him before us.

No idea but playing him forward will just f*ck his confidence that he can continue to contribute. He can read the game so much better down back. I'd have thought we'd want him back line or wafl.

Fair enough.
In that case I think he's best suited as the +1 nowadays, hav no confidence on him playing on a forward.

The issue really is that we actually already have 2 very competent key defenders in Silvagni and Dawson already. McPharlin has proven ability as a key forward, more so than anyone on our list apart from Pavlich.

If you call 34 goals 12 behinds in 10-11 games as a forward "mixed results", I guess.
A decade ago. And when Connolly moved to starting him there opposed to a swingman as a more permanent option he went downhill right away. Has never been a natural forward and never will be.

The problem with Silvangi is that he be happy to play 8 odd games as he just can't get through a whole season anyways.

He would of left long ago if he thought he was up to it.

We might be underestimating the severity of his illness and what was required to get him back to fitness.
I think Ross termed it " We had to rebuild him " .

This could easily be Luke's best or worst decision of his entire career.

I'd hate to see him have another year of constant breakdowns but he is one player who deserves the chance and great to see the club give him the opportunity.
