If he goes to GWS as a player I'll be cheering every step of the way because it means they can't take any of our youngsters this year or next. That's the same reason I don't expect it to happen.

If he goes as a coach in some form, I'll be cheering him every step of the way for the same reason I harbour soft spots for Geelong and the Roos now.

Will be an absolute joke if he goes to gws IMO. Grubs already poached our development officer.

Mate, get some perspective.

Him playing a year at GWS isn't really a bad situation.

He gets to top up his super and GWS get a good on-field mentor for a year, ala Daniel harris at GC.

Lions get some salary cap space and accelerate their youth policy.

He's still a Lion and always will be.

Not sure that would count. I could be wrong but if the Lions aren't offering him a new contract, couldn't GWS just draft him instead and still sign another uncontracted Lion.

Unfortunately I don't have any hard and fast rules on this (and I suspect only the AFL and the clubs would know), but from what I understand the AFL acted to close any loopholes around the uncontracted player concession so everything counts towards it.

Given GC/GWS can't take players in the PSD from clubs they've already taken an uncontracted player from, I don't see why the reverse would not also be true, i.e. taking a player from a club through the PSD would count towards their uncontracted player list.

If GWS signs him directly, that would definitely count because the only mechanism they have for that is the uncontracted player concession and the restrictions it brings.

Edit: An example of abuse of this loophole would be a player denying being offered a contract and walking to GWS despite GWS already signing a player from the club. Unless the club has irrevokable proof they offered the player a contract (and it would be relatively easy for the player to avoid giving them that, especially if the club isn't expecting it), it would be the player's word against the club's on the matter.

Thanks for everything Luke! One of my favourites. Triple premiership player and stayed with the club through the rebuild. Surprised he wasnt given an extra year or 2 to play as a small crumbing forward as I thought he would be worth 30 - 40 goals a season but Voss obviously has a vision to get youth in and get them experience. I thought Luke handled himself in the interview like the Gentleman he is.

If he did go to GWS for a year good on him, he deserves the dollars. Looking forward to seeing what role he does play in Football in the future, obviously a very intelligent guy and a great bloke as well.

If your height was reflected in the courage shown on the field and your standing in the AFL community off the field, then Lukey Power would have been a seven footer of Sandilands stature....

Congrats to him on such a great career with the Lions. Luke Power ticks all the boxes.

Aww... Lukey, I knew this day would happen eventually.

You were a wonderful Club man and an exceptional player.

You were a joy to watch.

Thank you

:thumbsu: Ditto this.

If he still wants to play footy at the elite level and someone is happy to give him a run, good luck to him.

I'd be rapt to have a chance to watch him play for an extra year.

It's not like we own the bloke and it is clear that his first choice was to continue at the Lions in 2012, so I can't see how anyone would begrudge him plying his trade elsewhere when it seems to have be made clear to him privately that he didn't figure in Vossie's plans next year.

I'd love to see Luke stay involved with the club but if GWS are willing to write him a big superannuation cheque to go around again then I'd say good luck to him.

This is a bloke who owes the lions absolutely nothing.

Even the manner of his going was all class, admitting that whilst he might have had another year in him, he was prepared to step aside without any hard feelings. For what its worth i think he made the right decision. Whilst I don't doubt that Power would have got a few games next year and done exactly what was asked of him, even if it meant playing reserves and teaching the younger blokes, he is too much a champion to end his days scrabbling for a game here and there.

Was an article in the paper today, has been approached by GWS in some kind of off field position. Power would be good at a number of things off field, so he would be an excellent pick up for a team like GWS. Whilst i would love to keep him around our club, it's probably best for Power to try his hand outside the Lions if he does persue an off field position.

Thanks Luke for all the memories. Your cute little face is the reason I got interested in AFL in the first place and I'll love you forever as a legend of our club. True champion :thumbsu:

I think it is a decision he would regreat when he looked back at his career. Maybe not now but he would. To me it reminds me of Dougie Hawkins going to Fitzroy - in my mind cheapened his career to notch up a few more games.

You can't be serious about supporting Voss on this one. Yes, the club is moving forward, but this is NO way to treat a club champion. This is disgraceful!

Tend to agree with this..

..can't get my head around Luke wanting to play for another team:eek:

...some things are just not right, this scenario is one of them..:(

And come next year, when Power racks up five or six below par games in a row similar to what had people suggesting his retirement earlier in the year? Should Voss be able to drop him, or would that be no way to treat a club champion?

I listened to SEN this morning, and my take from Lukey was that the conversation was that Vossy couldn't guarantee Luke a game each week next year due to the developing kids. I think that is an honest appraisal of where Luke's footy was up to, so I blame neither Luke or Vossy for anything. Open conversation, Luke makes a decision, end of story.

IF you have doubts, I'd take a look at the vision of the press conference with Vossy and Luke. 100% class shown all round. No elements of regret or disharmony in my eyes. Those two weren't uncomfortable in the slightest.

I for one would much prefer to laud a true club champion than dwell on the potential negatives that some people seem to be attempting to see here.

Just listened to Lukes interview with Colby after the game. All he said was that he had played his last game for the club. Did he actually use the word retired in any of the other interviews?

Mike Sheehan was convinced he will be a Giant next year, said he was in Sydney today.

Good luck to the little champ what ever he decides:thumbsu:

Yes, as 3KZ says Luke obviously wanted to continue his career with the Lions - I'm sure he would have loved to have been a one-club player.

It's sad to see him leaving the Lions, but it was just speculated on 'On the Couch' that he could be GWS' captain next year. If so, I would be delighted for Luke.

Champion bloke - and champion player - and a class act. I wish him all the best wherever his future lies.
