This is actually being very well played by Sayers.

As I understand it in the picture he is groomed in his undercarriage.

Therefore he waits until the pubes grow back and when they do he sends a pic to the media, AFL HQ, Carlton members and sponsors, identifying he has pubes and therefore the original pic could not be him (well unless like the next POTUS he has a distinctive mushroom dick, as attested by Stormy Daniels (for Trump not Sayers)).
