LVFNL 2013

It would seem that there is a bit of hate for Corey Gregg as a coach, the reason I don't know. What amuses me is he has been a joint coach for the past two years and the bloke beside him has been Dana Featherby. Here is a bloke who had the best team on paper last year and for that matter back in 2005 and couldn't get his side over the line in two grand finals. Questionable decisions in both of those grand finals, so is anyone questioning if players play for him at his home club let alone interleague level.
In stead of taking pot shots from a far, what about coming up with a realistic solution to who should be coach and even more realistic on who wants to do the job. Very easy to throw names up as to who should coach and who shouldn't coach, try actually finding someone who would be good and who wants to do it.
As for the players not playing for the coaches on the weekend, I would say the team was up against it from the start. The side they played out monstored our players up forward and there standard of league is by way far and above ours as a whole. I think the LVFL was getting ahead of itself of where it truly sits.

As far as Billy Grant picking the right players, have a look at the league they played against, one of the shittest leagues on the planet, I don't think they are even in the official rankings. And who were the right players the coaches left out. ( rumour has it Brad Comer thought he should have been in)
It is easy for people to lay blame on Greggy. Only a third year coach yet to establish credentials.. Which is why it's a strange appointment for a start.. Because he's a top player and has played a higher level, who's to say he can coach modern footy as well as he can play it? The best 22 who made them self available shouldn't have needed a lot of guidence with a solid game plan and players in the right positions. Sounds like there was niether. Featherby is a coach without a game plan. Never has. He just instills old day sayings and theories.. Won't go far long term, obviously.

Any news on that?? Long bus ride home??

Well the inter league is done and dusted for another twelve months and while the boys did not get the chocolates there is plenty of talent running around in the LVFL to be competitive. Next round. Bridgey v P/Hill is the game of the first half of the season and you lot are still banging on about the inter league. Marong v the Bears is a must win for Serp and if N/Bridge are the real deal they should get over Mitiamo even on their dung heap. Seems the top 3 might be penciled in (not inked). Next 3 games for the the rest is where their season rises or falls

I did hear Marong and Newbridge would be playing for the Rogers & Comer Cup when they meet in a few weeks time. That's what happens when the '' Same Seats'' rule is broken!

Vander is right looks like a great Round of Footy. Two undefeated sides in action Pyramid vs Bridgey should be a blockbuster battle Bridgey by 17 points. Serp in what should be a great battle against Marong by 13 points. Newbridge to beat Miti by 60 points young Bravo has headed from Miti as well now, YCW by 40 points over Inglewood hopefully Inglewood have freshened up a bit with the break after that 190 odd thumping from Newbridge the other week.
Whats everyone else reckon?

Perhaps you should put your hand up again Claude, you are in the coaching wilderness at present, and you having a winning record as coach of the Lv

My mail is that one Brad Comer made an absolute ass of himself on the bus ride home after being picked up as his car had shit itself. He wasn't supposed to be on the bus and when they gave him a ride home he thought it would be a good idea to voice his opinion on the coach, team selection and the fact that he thought he was the best player in the league and he should have been in the side. Then he wanted to bash everybody that made the side. The team manager sat him on his arse with rounds of applause coming from the netballers and footballers. He made a great day from all involved into one that all they could talk about was his arrogance and stupidity. Well played Brad, NOT!!!

Heard a rumour that the league is looking at playing the next 3 grand finals at Marong, with the running of the day given to who's turn it is to host the grand final. The league were in talks with QEO but it fell over, so now looking at Marong option. What's everyone's thoughts?

I gather you were on the bus were you champs? I wasn't and don't know what happened, but since when is it okay to assault someone, even if you don't like what he is saying? I've heard another version of the 'mail', but wouldn't put it on here as gospel - because I wasn't there.

I seriously hope this is a joke champs?

It certainly would make for an interesting discussion around the independence of the independent commission that has been established by the league.

It's the old debate about the grand final being played in Bendigo. I think everyone agrees it normally results in a bigger gate / crowd because of the additional patrons who attend.

If you were going to do it though, why wouldn't you do it at YCW? Which is actually in Bendigo?

Also they should split the GF income across all the clubs evenly and split the jobs that way.

Be interested to see how quickly Hellboy and Roota can ride in on their white horse to defend Marong if there is any backlash.

Here I am Frank, in all honesty I can see both sides of the picture. On one hand I think having one venue for the GF locked in for a period of time is a good idea especially a venue close to Bendigo. Up home is the CMFL the GF is always at the Swan Hill Showgrounds (Swan Hill's home ground) no matter whether they make it or not. Each club then has the opportunity to express interest in catering for the day. On the other hand is it easier and more beneficial for a club to be able to host at their own ground so they can attract more volunteers showcase thier own club, easier set up/pack up etc.

As a Marong player I have no real preference for whether it is played at our joint or not but I have no problem with the league trialling new things. I reckon the QEO would have been great but obviously is not to be

I've said it in more detail on this forum before, but Canterbury Park (Eaglehawk) makes far more logical sense for a LV Granny. Out the 'Loddon side' of town, neutral ground eliminating any advantages, good size, good access for supporters, grand stand and seemingly most important; in town. It doesn't get used for playing during BFL finals so would be in great nick and would be available likely most years exclusively unless Eaglehawk are running deep into finals. Perfect in my opinion.

I know a lot of the old school Loddon Valley people would be against it, but them times are changing, I think it would be a winner almost every year, and just rotate the 'host' as normal.

Yeah that could work as well, would depend on what the council or is it eaglehawk wanted to charge the LVFNL to use the ground for the day, the advantage YCW have over every other ground is they hold the lease to the ground, so could provide it to the league free of charge if they wanted to or for a fee that would be lower than any other ground in the district therefore maximizing the profit to the whole league or the host club of the day.

wasn't on the bus, just a conversation with one of the netballers who was on the bus. Always two sides I suppose.

owning the ground is the only advantage they have over any other ground.
ycw would have to be close to the worst surface in the comp would be a terrible move to play the grand final there the rooms are a joke. you dont want to showcase the comp on such a poor deck. the eaglehawk option would be worth investigating, i think it definately should be at a nuetral venue.

cut it out! he had some dutch courage lipped off and got silenced! its not like he was king hit from behind from all reports he saw it coming and got what he deserved. if you want to play the big man with the big mouth sometimes you have to take whats coming. it must have been called for if a team of netballers applauded it!

Might pay to select a decent coach next year. Gregg just not up to it. Two years, two losses. Might pay to fly Billy Grant back from darwin. Now there's a bloke who wasn't good enough to coach marong a few years back so went on to a Mitiamo flag and then interleague success.

It's very hard on Corey Gregg I think, he's a young bloke doing a good job with Marong and he's having a crack at coaching interleague and even though they got beaten by a fairly strong league they've certainly improved and will continue to build a strong interleague culture and only improvement can come from that. As for the LVFL Grand FInal being at Marong (with different clubs hosting it) for the next few years it's a great idea they tick 3 important boxes: a) good facilities b) close to Bendigo c) good car parking available which is what YCW lacks.

Not sure the surface of the ground at Marong would be considered as good. Location, Parking, atmosphere all affirmative.

Marong marong marong. Interleague coach, grand final venue for 3 years, about time there is a change of league president before any more damage is done.

Big win by Bridgewater smashing Pyramid looks like they are well truly in the box seat again but your never home until your home. Pyramid would be dissapointed. What about former Sandhurst star Lachlan Prest bagging 5 in the ressies!

Marong and Serp looks like it cracker of a game with the scores swinging. Give us a run down Roota? Serp's results show they are just hanging in.

YCW too good for Inglewood and Newbridge are going quite well with a big win over Miti. M.Spooner 4 goals for St.Albans yesterday real shame for Miti that didnt work out.

Once again Marong bashing, if you read it properly about the Grand final, the game would be held there and the clubs would rotate the running of the day. Not sure if you realise that their is a commission in place and everything is then voted on by the clubs. Not sure how you can construe that the league president has all the influence, you would think the people on the commission would have a voice and if they didn't have a consensus on certain issues then they would just rubber stamp something the chairperson thought would be a good idea. If you want a new coach for the interleague how about coming up with a name and then follow through on getting that person. Let me know how you go, you sound like your all over it. Not sure what your issue is with Marong, maybe you were dropped from two's once.

Has Inglewood given up or YC picked up a few?

Shame to see Miti give Newbridge a 9 goal to 1 start.. See they won the last though, wouldn't have many of them this year.

Bit of a scuffle at Pyramid with a report or two.. Any news?
