Yeah it factors in where they are drafted, BnFs, Brownlows ect.

Ablett Jnr is only worth a 2nd rounder under the system due to his drafting number as a FS same with Cloke but less playing honors.
Draft position is not even considered unless the player has 4 years or less of experience. Ablett would be a first rounder, no question. I expect Cloke would be a first-rounder also, especially given he's only 22 years of age.

Yer i agree with the last post i dont think dave cloke will want him to go interstate he just wants cloke to get a better contract from collingwood. He wont leave.

I David Cloke plays "hardball" with the pies, Travis Cloke will be playing on the Gold Coast next year.

Collingwood are not going to pay "over the odds" for Cloke or anyone else, he will offered a contract that is seemed to be fair in regards to his worth and in line with what other "jue below elite" players are being paid in the competition.

If David Cloke gets too arrogant and stupid in the negotiation process, we will lose Travis, and not for one moment will I be blaming the youngest of the Clokes, whose only mistake seems to have been appointing his Dad as his manager.

Spot on

Hid dad David wants his son to make a nice living for himself. If your an AFL footballer you would want to to earn as much as you can in the limited time you can. You can't blame him for accepting a high salary.

Base Salary 400k a year for 3 years. Not worth more than that! end of story!

Yep, I'd probably agree with that.

If push came to shove though, I'd offer 1.5m over 3 yrs (500K per season).

At the end of the day, you need to keep your stars and important players at the club at all costs.

Despite many people on here dishing it up to Cloke's old man, he is doing what is in his son's best interests and that is get the best possible outcome to set his life up. At the end of the day, I cannot see Trav wanting to leave IMO. The playing group/coaching staff love him and he has bonded extremely well with everyone. He will remain a Magpie.

Trav will stay. End of story.

Not if GC offer him close to double what he's getting now, like they did with Ablett. If GC want to splash the cash to get him they can certainly offer him a lot more money than Collingwood can, and Trav would be dumb not to consider it. AFL is a career for him after all, and he's got to consider life after footy.

Cloke would have to be on atleast 400 maybe even 500k now due to how valuable he is to our team. GC offering 800k-1mil for a forward who has only had 1 consistant year is not very high. That and take into proportion this would involve leaving all of his family a 22 year old may not want to leave his family they all live here bar cameron who had NO CHOICE but to leave. He will stay i could also bring up family history and what not like some people will but that doesn't really matter.

Despite the hype GC17 don't have an unlimited cap.
They have an extra an extra $1,000,000 in the first year, but have to pay an additional 10 players.

2011 - 48 senior list, nine rookies with $1m TPP extra allowance;
2012 - 46 senior list, nine rookies with $800k TPP extra allowance;
2013 - 42 senior list, nine rookies with $600k TPP extra allowance;
2014 - 40 senior list, nine rookies with $400k TPP extra allowance;
2015 - 38 senior list, nine rookies in line with other AFL clubs

By the time they grab a few big names they are not going to have money to burn.
Ablett, Cooney are fair bets.
Not sure if campaigner is in or out the TPP but there's a fair whack straight up with no guaranteed return.

They have priority picks but we all know how "potential" goes. They could end up with 50% duds an ex- NRL/Union player, a heap of un-contracted duds and 5 stars on more then they are really worth, all surfing and smoking cones.

Could be a nightmare really.

I'm assuming that everyone knows that if Trav does decide to take the money and run, it won't happen until 2011. As it stands, Travis Cloke is a listed Colingwood player for the year 2010, and we've got a premiership to win. As long as he plays his part in us winning the flag this year, I couldn't care less if he went on to play with himself next year. This year is all that matters right now.

The difference with Ablett being lured and Cloke being lured is completely different.

Ablett has won 2 flags with Geelong.Played in 3 grand finals has achieved his ultimate aim.So maybe he can move on.Plus his father gary senior has moved up there and his brother has signed with the gold coast
Also he has split from his girlfriend and the gold coast are offreing his one and a half million a year for 4 years........I reckon he'll go.

Clokey is different.
Loves the pies has the chance to become a premiership player to leave ,it will leave him feeling that he has not achieved his aim.The gold coast holds not very good memories for him.
His family is all here,except for Cam who has no choice but to play in Adelaide.
He is very close to his family seperation will make him home sick .
And the pies are on a threshold to winning a few flags like geelong.
If we back end his contract he should stay a pie for life i reckon.
He is too close to the playuers and we are on the brink of big things,can't see him leaving i reckon.
If david cloke sticks his nose in ok sure he wantsw to make sure his son is being looked after,but i doubt that money is the only thing on Trav's mind.

Hmmm, I still think it's very unlikely to happen. I would imagine a decent contract offer from us would be comfortably enough to keep him.

Let's say, for the sake of discussion though, that he does decide to go. Can we cover him? I'd have to think not at the moment. Forgetting the fact that we'd be well-compensated, as Trav is young and a consistent high performer in our B & Fs, losing Trav would be a major blow to our short-term flag aspirations. Dawes is our most similar young prospect, being a strong, solid lead-up forward (albeit that Trav is a much stronger mark and a much poorer kick) with elite endurance, but he's got a long way to go to cement himself as a senior player, let alone one of the top 3 young CHFs in the competition.

I'm not concerned, but I'd still like to see us play Dawes in these practice matches. Surely someone can be rested in order to give Dawesome a run in Alice Springs.

Why did DAWES not play on Friday/

Trav will stay. End of story.

gee!! I hope you're right.....my concerns are firstly, MM treated the other 2 Cloke boys like crap...which I reckon David and Travis are still spewimg about .....However, there is the BUCKs factor, if Trav and Bucks are good mates then hopefully, bucks will do enough to see his star forward remain a Magpie for Life !!!!
There u go!!! another reason why its better tha Buckley coaches the forwards this year, stay nice and close to Trav:D

Don't Mick and David share a pretty icy relationship?

And is Trav's house still being vandalised?

I reckon he would leave for the money and enjoy the 'change of scenery'. Or at least say so. Anyway, who wouldn't want gaz landing em on his chest....

Saying that, I'm glad big Kurt stayed.

If Collingwood get off to a bad start this Cloke thing will CERTAINLY BLOW UP.

If Cloke plays well through the first five rounds it will be an even bigger issue for the Pies.

BCC82, if Cloke plays well in the first 5 rounds, he does himself no harm in being rewarded accordingly. If he plays badly, he loses alot of bargaining power, irrespective of his importance to the team. It is in his best interests to play very well, especially at a point in his career where his contract is due for renegotiation.

It won't "blow up".

He won't be leaving for the Gold Coast anyhow IMO.

OK. Quick one, then.
How much room does Coll have in its salary cap?

What if Cloke wants $650-$700?

Not certain will be alot more open come 2012 though.

I also dont think Cloke can ask for 700K though

500 to 600k max, more then that and we are over paying alot
