Ramos or bust? lol can't believe that. It turns out in the end that he was using us anyway, ah well.

LVG is retiring in 2 years, and wants to win the CL title with United. Our defence is no where near strong enough to even get that far let alone win it.

Why aren't we going after Otamendi?
I think we bid for Otamendi in January but below his release clause. We dont value him at £35 and want to pay less. I still think we will sign a surprise CB similar to Darmian which the media had no idea about.

Why are jones and Smalling not starting together and Blind at the back?

Herrera not in that line up too :(

I think he wants a ball-playing CB to partner Smalling and Jones. i.e. Blind and Rojo.
Plus it means that it's a left-foot right-foot combo which he likes

Smalling and Herrera are absolutely in our best team, I really don't think it matters which half he selects them in for preseason tbh, you've got to rotate it around.

I think we'll line up round one like this considering LVG has said plenty of times that we'll be playing 433, I think the pre season selections are purely about fitness and fitting everyone in.

GK: DDG
RB: Darmian
CB: Smalling
CB: Jones
LB: Shaw
DM: Carrick
CM: Herrera
CM: Scheiderlin
RW: Mata
LW: Young/Memphis
CF: Rooney

I wouldn't be surprised if LVG goes with Valencia over Darmian initially but I bloody hope not, I also think Carrick's form, EPL experience and superior fitness will see him start over Bastian initially, he looks like he'll have to be eased in I reckon.

I hope Herrera lines up at CM or CAM behind Rooney. Depay has looked a little lost there at times.

Much prefer him on the wing where he can use his pace and dribbling skills to throw opposition defenders out of position.

That was a good game to lose.
Tbf PSG's defence was great, particularly Silva.
We should have a midfield 3 of Carrick, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger/Herrera against Spurs.
Depay, Rooney and Mata as the front 3.
And Darmian, Smalling, Jones and Shaw as the back 4.

Bastian looks a bit off the pace at the moment for me, I think Carrick, Schneiderlin and Herrera have looked much fitter so far.

Shaw and Darmian looked pretty impressive throughout the tournament so I hope to see them start round one, I really don't want to see Young starting before Memphis either.

#FreeHerrera

I'm thinking (and also hoping) that he's been the one sitting out because LVG already knows what he can do and he already has a great partnership with Carrick. I think Bastian started today because he needed the extra minutes the most and then Morgan was preferred after that because he is still developing an understanding with Carrick.

If you consider LVG's comments about adding to our midfield at the end of last season he identified the need to add an alternative/cover for Carrick at #6, as he mentioned that playing Herrera there is a waste of his talents further up the pitch so I think he does rate him highly. With Carrick, Schweinsteiger, Herrera and Scneiderlin competing for spots in a midfield three I think Herrera is the most unique of the four and is the most well rounded so I think his spot should be fairly safe, I'll just be happy if we can have enough luck with injuries to have this selection headache with the four of them though!

4 elite mids to rotate through 3 possies over the course of the season through 4 competitions....no dramas as to who starts the first game.
This is the big thing.

Let's say we have 55 games this season (38 PL, 17 between CL, FA Cup and League Cup). Would anybody have a problem in each of them starting 30-40 each, also factoring in a player like Pereira getting a few games in the starting team for games like Plymouth if we play them in our 1st League Cup match?

Not at all. Carrick was our most influential player last season, Herrera is class, Schneiderlin was one of the top midfielders in the league last year and Bastian is Bastian, they all have the quality to deserve as much game time as possible.

I'd love for Pereira to be involved on day one tbh, he's got a 100% win record against Spurs and I think he could really bring something to the side off the bench. His energy and class in the final third have been a real highlight of the preseason for us IMO, I hope we see a lot of him.

Completely agree. As far as things go, this would be my preferred grouping at OT vs Spurs:

Carrick
Herrera - Schneiderlin

In terms of age and price we'll have to pay, yes.
In terms of ability at the same age, no.

Although i would be happy enough with the purchase.

Eh, as would I, but if you are looking at paying 30m for a young defender may as well make it Laporte.
