Has apparently flown to Adelaide with his wife today to go through a medical and meet Ports coaches.

If all goes well seems like a trade that could go through quiet easily without requiring a 3rd party.

What pick would you expect will be used?
I've said previously i'd expect between 40-60, does anyone see us getting higher than this?

That sounds about right. Would be a good get for Port. They only need an experienced backup and Seaby would fit the bill.

This bloke picked up 3 brownlow votes this year..just about BOG last time he played with Sydney.
If 40-60 there would also need to be a player. Otherwise 30-40(at worst!)

He played 1 good game against Richmond, who's ruck stocks aren't exactly high, and a number of serviceable games. 30 is overs imo.

Richmond should chase Seaby and ignore Maric.

Seaby would be better value and Sydney are normally very reasonable to trade with.

Pick 37 for Seaby might be a goer, although personally I think he'd be worth more than that.

I don't understand what Sydney are doing, surely they can't be thinking of going into 2012 with only Pyke as the backup to Mummy. Will be in all sorts of trouble if Mummy goes down.

Maybe they have their eye on someone like Blake?

Sydney currently have Mumford, Pyke, Seaby, and Currie as fulltime Ruckmen
Pyke has gone ahead of Seaby and personally I'm very comfortable with Pyke as backup.

Also Currie isn't too bad, was B&F of NEAFL, and is in the Swans long term plans, losing Seaby to hang on to Currie (who would otherwise be 4th in line) seems like a logical decision to me.

If we do get another Ruckman, it will be a project player in the draft/psd to play in NEAFL

Dan Currie will be on the books and he had a really good year in the 2's but just couldn't get a look in over Mummy, Seaby and Pyke. He'll stay on and be our 3rd string ruckman and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a game next year through good form (not even through injury). Jesse White, LRT can also pinch hit if needed.

Wouldn't surprise me to see us pick up a ruckman in the draft though. Although the Swans have not had good history with drafting ruckmen. Our last 4 quality ruckmen have all been traded in (Ball, Jolly, Mumford, Seaby).

Yeah i know all about Sydney's ruck options, but the fact remains Sydney would crash hard if had to rely on Pyke, Currie, White, LRT for an extended period in the season as your ruck rotation. So much of Sydney's game style is still built around stopages and getting good delivery/competition from Mummy. Pyke, Currie, White, LRT would be the worst ruck division in the league if Mummy was missing.

Not sure how you reach that conclusion, Pyke is a better option than Seaby. In reality Seaby is 3rd in line, if we have another season like this one where both Mumford and Pyke are unavailable at same time will be in trouble, but so is pretty much every side without their #1 and #2 ruck.

Probably the cheapest back-up ruck going around who can play decent footy (i.e. not Mark Blake), so I hope we get him rather than Griffin or Renouf. Was reportedly at Alberton with his wife for a medical today. I doubt it would take any more than pick 51, unless the Swans want someone expendable like Pettigrew, Davenport or Motlop as a sweetener.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a three way deal between the Crows, Port and Sydney then.

Crows give: Armstrong
Crows get: Pick 37

Port give: Pick 37
Port get: Seaby

Swans give: Seaby
Swans get: Armstrong

Seems fair for all the clubs.

Pyke/White or Pyke/Currie isn't much worse than a Seaby/Pyke or Seaby/White ruck combo.

As a tap ruckman Pyke is on par with mumford. It's his follow up work at the stoppages and marking around the ground that make Mumford the far superior player.

I don't understand why Richmond aren't going after him though. Better option than Maric, and probably cheaper too.

Fair for us but I reckon its a slight win for the crows and a loss for power.

A) Port don't have pick 37.
B) Even if they did, he's not worth it. Replace it with pick 51 and you may have something, but the Crows might want more for Armstrong than the Swans do for Seaby, in which case two separate trades would be easier.

My bad, for whatever reason I thought you had 37. I think it will be two separate deals then.

Ok, but Seaby has shown he can be a no. 1 ruck for periods, Pyke has never shown that.

Guess time will tell.

Pyke showed that back in 2010 when Mumford was suspended, he performed fine as #1 ruck.

In the end we are willing to trade Seaby because he is surplus to our needs and our current ruck stocks are actually very strong.

Rounds Mummy missed in 2010 and Pyke played

Round 8: Pyke 4 possesions 13 hitout, 40 point loss to the Dogs (in Canberra)
Round 9: 7, 21 and a 40 point loss to the Dockers (SCG)
Round 22: 15, 33, 40 point win against the Lions (Gabba) when the Lions had wrapped it up for the year.

Not sure how you take that as being fine as the no. 1 ruck.
