RICHMOND premiership player Marlion Pickett has been granted bail by a Perth magistrate after being charged over a string of alleged burglaries in which currency was stolen from safes.

Police remanded Pickett in custody on Sunday - a day after he played in the Tigers' 15-point win over Fremantle at Optus Stadium - alleging he was involved in commercial burglaries between December and January.

The 31-year-old appeared in the dock in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, wearing a black sweatshirt.

He only spoke to confirm his name and was not required to enter pleas.

A police prosecutor told the court the alleged offending by Pickett and others involved a series of commercial burglaries resulting in the theft of more than $380,000 in Australian and foreign currencies from within safes.

Pickett is facing 12 charges including four counts of aggravated burglary, three counts of stealing and three counts of criminal damage.

Prosecutors opposed bail, saying there was a risk Pickett would reoffend if he was released.

Pickett's lawyer David Manera said the prosecution case rested largely on allegations deposits were made into his bank account by his co-offenders and that a camper-van rented in his name was driven interstate by the other men.

Magistrate Erin O'Donnell said the allegations were serious but she was confident Pickett did not present a significant flight risk.

She granted bail on the condition Pickett resides at his address in the Melbourne suburb of Reservoir, reports weekly to a local police station, does not interact with his alleged co-offenders and provides a $50,000 personal surety.

Sounds like the allegations are around aiding and abetting, tbh I think a good lawyer could get him Off ,,, he wasn’t to know the blowtorch he bought his mate was to be used to crack a safe , will need more evidence than a hunch unless it’s the mro

He can but like someone said what about his mental state now, his game has been off lately, this is bound to have a huge impact on him.
or might find serenity on the field and go up a notch

What is the play for the club
Sure they support him but do they play him?

The usual suspects in the media are going to have a field day with this if we play him though, even though he's not been found guilty of anything yet. I would play him but the clubs perspective may be different than mine.

also oppos will prob boo him everytime he touches the ball

yep, should've just given the cash to them so they go out and get it if he felt he had to help
Maybe he is actually innocent ... Could have just thought he was paying for his sister's family to have a holiday in a campervan? ...

I have no idea but only 76% of charges that go to Court are found guilty and 7% of guilty verdicts are later proven to be in error.

On the statistics alone he is a 1 in 3 chance to be innocent.

Hope for his children he plays this weekend and does so in a way that will make them proud

If he was charged with gbh for example would your answer be different
I just interested as to what level of alleged offending behaviour people would be comfortable with him representing the club
I would cos I'm a campaigner , but others wouldnt

How can you charge someone with aggravated burglary with the evidence being your phone was pinged near the area at the time? Wow!!!!

These police are amateurs.
If he’s brother in law has already pleaded guilty he’s probably been implicated as part of the guilty plea along with the payments
