doesnt change the fact Martyn did, he should never of been brought back into the team the selectors got it right the first time they dropped him.

he shouldn't have been brought back but this isn't the easiest wicket to play on. People should at least wait to the end of the game before bagging him.

Is this going to happen after every one of Martyn's innings?

The reality is that he's going to be given 3 Tests. Why don't you just wait until then to critique his performance?

No-one is going to forget the controversy surrounding his selection. Do we really need an innings-by-innings update?

He made a relatively low score in his first innings back. Big deal. Does that prove that he should never have been in the side. No, it doesn't. Keep it in your pants for a little while longer.

Exactly. The reality is that he is a better batsman than Brad Hodge. The selectors are looking for a stable, set line up to win back the Ashes and consistently win matches of Test cricket. Whilst Hodge averaged 58 and made an unbeaten 200 he showed a weakness which could easily be exploited against Englands pace bowling line up of Flintoff, Hoggard, Jones and Harmison.
Australia can rely on Martyn to perform because he usually has in the past. Australian selectors probably feel more confident with him, Hodge hadn't convinced the selectors.

I don't think Hodge should've been dropped , but I also don't wish Martyn fails .

In his peak form Martyn is as majestic a batsmen as I have ever seen , absolutely no effort and all timing .

Can he get back to that form - I don't think so .

I actually dont think he was exploited in the ashes,certainly not to the same extent as Gilly Katich and Hayden. I thought he looked ok against the reverse swing because he is a back foot player and aside from the two rough callse he got he got himslef out most times,which is something that he has eradicated in recent years(in tests)

yep, agree with you there even though i ain't a huge marto fan. he may even be given the 2 tests in bangladesh as well. hohns wouldn't want to admit he was wrong and re-instate hodge now would he?

if marto fails in south africa and is done away with , it may mean rejigging our batting order a little and m clarke to come back in as he's the reserve bat at the moment. hodge would have to score huge in the pura cup final to even get a look in you'd think.

It wasn't an easy pitch to bat on, so best reserving judgement on Martyn until he has a few opportunities.

They put a 3rd man in and bowled short and wide and watched him pick out the bloke at 3rd man every time, if that didnt work they just attacked the stumps and he had no idea, hell he couldnt even play the spin of Giles and got bowled by him
