Why not spend your time bullshitting on about the parasites who really do cause society as a whole far more damage?

I rarely post here. A few days ago, I was wondering why everyone was making a huge deal of the sainthood and checked in here. There was a thread on the subject and I posted. I don't think I've ever hijacked a thread on this board.

I had a catholic girlfriend who wanted to practice the rhythm method ....however I got my kazoo caught in the high hat and that was all she wrote.
I might have been a little over the top, but i'd rather get it out of my system here than vent it on my girl or her family
They can accept that I'm an atheist because I love their daughter and I'm good to her, but I don't know how long I'd remain in their good books were I to express my true feelings about half the stuff they believe in. Thankfully, she's not particularly religious herself and the issue rarely comes up between us at all.

That's what happens when any person or organisation has such a vile history. It is almost impossible to put any trust in their words or deeds. We all know the Pope himself was guilty of re-circulating pedophiles. It is fact. So putting up McKillop as a saint and promoting her stance against child abuse (like it's something completely out of the ordinary in the church! Think about it!) is just a PR move.
If they wanted to impress people with how contrite they are, they could dissolve the church, distribute the wealth and... oh, I dunno... follow Jesus?
What a preposterous statement. Plenty of organisations have aspects of their history that could be regarded as 'vile', including our own government. Improvement has to start somewhere, and doesn't necessitate complete dismantling of the institution.
The idea that a religion based around belief in the concept of papal primacy should dismantle itself to show contrition is patently absurd. It strikes me as a statement more designed to justify continued hatred of the institution, rather than a realistic suggestion for improvement of the situation.

Considering some of the posts from the 'good Christians' I think ranger has been pretty tame.
Maybe he needs to insinuate that opposing views deserve a physical reprisal or that the 'other side' engages in incest.
Perhaps that kind of toning down?

You could suggest the religious tolerance laws now in effect are blasphemy laws, just more wide ranging.
Eh, I wouldn't characterise them like that. Blasphemy laws are driven by a preference for a specific religion. Religious tolerance laws like the one in Victoria are more just another tentacle of PC/EO culture.
Like most legislation of its type I reckon that there's a lot of good stuff in those laws, with some rather concerning Big Brothery stuff tacked on as well. On the other hand, there is no merit to blasphemy laws whatsoever (IMO).

'publicly sanctioned offending people' is whining mass stuff, squealing wheel gets the oil. what about piss atheist? piss your mum? would that be publicly sanctioned offense of people or would some people merely shrug it off? despite any common motifs there will always be individual responses. undoubtedly there were some christians who like andres serrano thought it looked nice. i can't see how anything at all is inherently offensive.
