My mail is Dunolly has signed another former AFL player in Robbie Ahmat...

He is 37 but from all reports still very much a dangerous player. Can we confirm or deny that Johnny?

I can confirm he is a dangerous player but as Blue said, he is only 32.:D

No clearance has been signed as of yet so there is no signing.

So interleague tomorrow. Fair chance it could be wet and guaranteed it will be cold. How are the MCDFL boys going to go? Lexton Plains is generally considered to be the stronger league but the proof will be in the pudding at 5.00 pm on Saturday. What are the key match ups and where will this game be won or lost. You would think Ox can give our midfielders a fair crack at clearing the pill out of the middle and our forward line looks awesome. Thoughts?
The u/19 game should be an absolute cracker also. Fast paced, skilled and hopefully plenty of MCDFL legends of the coming years on show!

Our forward line is very tall Bluey, if the ground is heavy i think we will have to have our onballers kick a few front and centre type goals. Or kicking a good score may be difficult. If the ground is good we have a very good backline, if McNamee plays forward all game i would think he will kick a bag. As every one knows the love is not very strong between James and a few of the LPFL boys, but thats when McNamee plays his best footy.
If they can make the forward line work MCDFL by 6 goals.
if not MCDFL by 2 goals.

Have the lexton plains announced their line-up yet?? Bit hard to pick a winner without knowing what they have on the park.

Came across the following link to the Media Conference while looking at the Ballarat Courier website.
MCDFNL vs LPFL Media Conference.

MCDFL were handed out a football lesson today by a classier and more hard working LPFL unit in wet and slippery conditions. LPFL 17.20.122 def MCDFL 3.5.23. U/19's MCDFL 9.13.67 def LPFL 6.9.45.

That is an absolute hiding! What happened??

Sherman said to me that he thought MCDFL picked a dry weather side and it showed out on the day. Thought we would be far more competitive than that!

There is an excellent description of the game on central vic footy.

Info was half right on Ahmat then, still a good player but younger than I had been told. He must've still been young when he finished up at AFL level then. Will stay tuned to see if a clearance is lodged then...

Was slightly disappointing day saturday was looking forward to a cracker. Pity about the weather. Interesting though Tim McKay kicking 6 goals on such a wet day. There were goals to be had by the talls if they wanted them

Will this be an annual game from now on?? Hope so, because the MCDFL will hopefully be looking for redemption next season.

The gap between the two leagues is not that great IMO. Saturday's result certainly doesn't look good though.

I would say LPFL had double the inside 50's though...

I agree KingRich i dont believe the gap between the leagues is that great but we were completely outplayed on saturday, they were stronger, faster, cleaner, structured and picked a side to suit the day.

It was quiet disappointing for us and a little embarrassing after the game but the best thing to come out of the day would have to be the learning curve the league and its players will obtain from the day.

I think it will show the league and the selectors where we need to be at and what we need to do to get there. Being our first year back it was always going to tough playing against a team who has been in the system for some time, and hopefully over the next few years as a league we can implement a program that works and generates alot of interest and player support.

The league has done a fantastic job getting interleague back on track and it is truely disappointing from a players perspective that we couldnt put on a better show as we felt we had a strong enough side to match them.

I would hope that we all learn from this and build on it for next year's clash.

Pretty ordinary scoreline in the interleague on the weekend, but are we being a bit harsh?? There were a lot of quality players not in the side for one reason or another (Motlop, Field, Martin, Ramsay to name a few)... without knowing who Lexton were missing or who plays for them, a full strength MCDFL side would look a lot different to the one that ran out on Saturday i'm sure.

Good to see big Mark Oxley drag himself over there and give a good account of himself to show once again he is the best big man in the comp!!!

The Lexton Plains had a heap of good players out so we can't use that as an excuse. Tom Mullane-Grant, Clint Ladiges, Jade Keam, Steven Ross, Karl Begbie, just to name a few. In that list are 2 league medals and the VCFL full foward.

I would hope that the players get behind this next year as we go on in here about the league becoming stronger and etc and get destroyed by an 8 team competition.

I was there and they just played way better footy. Conditions probably saved our scoreline. Great concept though and hope it remains a permanent event on the fixture. :thumbsu:

I agree on hoping that it becomes a permanant fixture. Did you boys get any incentives to play or anything?

Big statement Gota seen as the u/16s and 19s were winners on the day so hopefully in the future things may change and the MCDFL will be more competitive.

There is no doubt both teams were missing players that would have easily influenced the score but we both played with 24 and they were way better on the day. The league has definately improved and i dont believe it is that bad, we just had a shocking day out.

I wouldnt say that conditions saved our scoreline as we looked ok before the rain came with run and carry out of defence we just couldnt convert and get up and about so to speak.ONce the rain came we were too tall and slow and messy with the footy, they just showed their class with clean hands and ball use. They had some fantastic players who gave us a footy lesson but as mentioned in previous post i think the league will only learn from this and bounce back.

The LPFL has and always will be a stronger league than the MCDFL

Assuming you judge a leagues strength on Interleague performance then you are right. Personally I dont think a proper judgement can be made from interleague games. MCDFL has plenty of players who have excelled at higher levels (Martin, Field, Motlop, Oxley, Ramsey, McNamee to name a few).

The MCDFL's absolute cream would match that of the LPFL I dont think people can dispute that, but that would be the case in most leagues around the state. Whenever you cobble together a bunch of players who dont know each other, plus the fact that you will never ever get the best side on the park, it is always going to be hit and miss. I'm not trying to make excuses. I thought we would get done, but not by this margin. Guys that saw the game and played in it would be able to comment better than me. I'm just making the point that you cant judge standards of leagues completely on interleague as there are many other factors involved. I do believe that one thing the MCDFL does struggle with is depth of quality players. I think our top 2 sides would easily be in the top 5 in the Lexton plains.

Someone like Johnny Drama would be in the best position to comment on the standard of the two leagues. In saying that, and this doesn't happen often, but I completely agree with Sherman's comments. After such a long absence it was great to see the MCDFL back in the interleague fold. The administrators, coaches/selectors and players can only learn from this going forward and I'm pretty confident they were make a much better fist of it next year after this years experience. It is encouraging to see our juniors have a couple of good wins. But considering we have 3 more clubs in our league then I would expect this.

Just my 2 cents. Also Sherman, heard you got smashed by a Carnham Linton player on the weekend??? Hows the eye?? :D

I was surprised to see Ox play given his history with injuries! Credit to the big fella for putting his hand up! Agreed he is the best big man in the comp. When he is playing you treat him like Sandilands and just try and rove to his taps.

There is a delay in the uploading of the clearances. Any word on Ahmat?? Where are you dragging him in from JD?

The way to match up leagues goes much further than inteleague sides, depth is a massive factor. Look at the Central Highlands. The majority of teams from this league and lexton plains would beat most the teams from that league

As the hype around Ahmat continues (if he is actually coming) thought I'd add this bit of footage I found while searching his name. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZ9T5l6nlqA If he does come think he might add a bit more pace to the already quick Dunolly Midfield. Gotta say love Bruce's commentary as probably wouldn't be far off the mark

It really is a pointless argument. No one really knows for sure. And it really doesn't matter as you dont play each other for premiership points. Lexton Plains deserve their bragging rights for this year though no doubt!
