Agreed on the Troy hubble topic. I have watched troy in previous seasons go about his business basically just dominate games and his presence around the prune cannot be underestimated. Doesn't seem to poll well at the berry powell for some reason?

On a sad note, the rumour mill has it that Dunollys favourite son C. Burn has opted for a change of scenery, putting an end to the dynasty he had built at the club since returning in 06. The last few seasons have been fortuitous for Craig, as he has managed to keep in check the basic equilibrium that is kicking goals and monitoring current or impending injurys. Gate takings are forecast to be the biggest loser with this decision, there is simply no substitutable player for his legions on fans to jump ship to.

A sad day for the MCDFNL. :(

Yes a very sad day for the MCDFL with C.burn set to head to greener pastures, apparantely the lure of life as a rodeo clown were to great to resist.

hope the mcdfl boys go ok in june agst. the lexton plains boys, and are at the very best: competitive

on other inter-league matters hdfl versus geelong dist f.l. in 2010 and lvfl versus ovens and king
:thumbsu: good to see these hi'er level games getting rostered

:thumbsu:two maryboro boys gone in this week's afl rookie draft, eh boys

rich., steader, uncle johnny must be delighted 4 stewie crameri and eddie prato. didnt know eddie was so big .... 6 ft 8 in is a big unit

also prolly take note of magpie coach shane fisher and his words in print media 2day
the selections of stewie crameri and eddie prato is a major boost for maryboro footy, said fisher
"we're trying to recruit players from the district level to play in the major league and improve their footy.
"eddie and stewy played major league footy and now they're going to the next level," fisher said.

:)but wait. here's fisher's clincher. "from my point of view eddie being selected might prove to a few people around maryborough that there is a pathway to the afl if they come in and play major league footy."

I'll bite

Congrats to the guys for being drafted. I hope they both kick on and make a career of it.

I've always loved a Fisher article since that full back page spread for his retirement which was 2 or 3 comebacks ago. Taking credit for Prato is pretty smug as is calling AFL the next level.

Glad someone did. They want district players to go in there, but then cant help but take a back-handed swipe at district clubs and players in an article that should be focusing on the achievements of Prato and Crameri. Its the 'us and them' mentality which alienates players and clubs further.

If Maryborough would try working with the district clubs, be open and honest and perhaps even contact the players through the club so there is no smoke and mirrors, I think a better working relationship could be struck up.

so judging by these two comments fisher must be on the nose in the mcdfl world
or is it the overall marybough major league club attitude?

after all fisher is the senior coach, not the senior administrator.

Fisher is just doing his job I guess as senior coach for Maryborough as far as promoting the club in good light. But yes not sure either Crameri or Prato could say that playing at Maryborough or the BFL has helped launch their careers. Together they would not have played more than 20 games at MB. A couple of notable players like Troy Chaplin and Tim Notting both 100 game + AFL players came directly from district leagues (not sure about whether Jed Adcock came from Rovers or not). If any kid shows potential at any level including district footy, there are paths in place to come under notice. ie through school and league junior footy canivals or even through contact made by a club to the Rebels or Pioneers to have a look at a likely youngster. Anyway with Crameri and Prato both getting drafted it is good for footy in general throughout this area. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yeah congrats to Prato and Crameri for being drafted. i also thought it was funny maryborough taking the credit for prato from what i have heard very good basketballer who lived at carisbrook, and also i believe he trained with brook for a few weeks but wasnt real interested and borough just going on his basketball talent met with him several times about playing. They seem to take credit for alot of good players tho just because they live around Maryborough.

Who are the big movers this year? clubs to watch?
1 for me would have to be dunolly with several players in darwin, the question is how many will be coming back to play with them in 2010.

Cheers

That will be the big thing for Dunolly, even though they say the side was made up of a majority of local players, the few imports made a massive difference and without the Motlop, Ahmat, Karpany, etc they will drop off unless they are replaced.

Rovers should improve with Sellars at the helm next season; he is still a decent player and should bring a couple with him surely.

Avoca will still be thereabouts you'd think. Is Field playing there again next year? Has Hedger actually signed there yet?

Newstead seem to be retaining the majority of players, with the possible losses of Lachy Ford to Creek, Sean Webster to a Melbourne side and Nick Brown (overseas) the only worry. These could still be offset with a couple of new faces at training and Daniel Christmas still a chance to return.

Harcourt seem to be the big loosers out of Paul Eyles being the new Castlemaine coach with him taking some of their young guys in Smith and McMurtrie. Couple that with thier better players a year older and the wrong side of 30 and they should slide.

Brook are always thereabouts so should be no different

Creek will improve with Peake, but it will depend on who they can get - Ford will be a great pick up, but they are 20 goals off most sides so will need more than those two to threaten

Heard a whisper Granty McIntosh might be heading back to Maldon?? Any truth to this?

As for the others, i've not heard too much.

Was having a beer with Jules on Sat night, he has signed as an assistant coach, along with B Hedger.

Hedger is a massive signing for Avoca. I cannot believe the loyalty of some of these blokes though , how can a kid who's family is so involved with the Rovers Football Netball Club transfer to another club in the same league. His family would have to be one of the most passionate going around the MCDFNL, I would have to imagine that as president of Rovers Wally would be very disappointed. Brendan has alot of talent and if he wants to play somewhere else it should be in a higher league.

Money talks

Money talks...couldn't have put it better myself, apparantely Kathy Hedger has stopped cooking him meals and has only just started talking to him again, tumultuous times in the Hedger household.

From what ive heard he is getting paid, it would be hard for someone his age to pass up. That said, im of the belief that if you get the opportunity to go chasing cash to play, do it in another league at least as it pretty much screws your reputation in most peoples eyes.

If you come from Bushy, Bushyman i find it humorous your comments on Hedger. Bushy got Perry last year for $ 250, from what i hear Hedger is a lot less than that. i know which player i would have in my team. We welcome Brendon to our club, he is a great kid who is looking to improve his coaching skills under Bellenger and what better player to learn from than julian field, sometimes the reasons to move clubs is more than cash.

If your not from Bushy, are you saying you wouldn't welcome him to your club.I believe there is a couple of more shocks from within the league, to come from Avoca in the next few weeks. That was the talk at our 20/20 cricket match.

There is no doubt most clubs chase players from opposing teams and try to lure them in every year. Football is a business and money talks, I guess it just comes down to the footballers beliefs and their life situation at the time, eg need the extra coin..Im sure Brendan can learn alot from those guys and personally develop himself as a leader but I dont believe this was the right path for him as im sure other avenues away from our league would open up for him. Goodluck to him anyway and to Avoca as this could be the signing they need to push them over the line...

Ok, screws your reputation is probably a bit strong. Merely saying that i dont think i could ever be swayed to another club in the same league for cash.

As Sherman said though, it all comes down to personal circumstances. Pez is only 23 with a wife and a couple of kids so i can see why he would come over for the extra money.

And as far as Hedger being better than Pez, i only played my first year at the club this year and only played against Hedger once. He seemed like a good player, did the flashy things well but playing side by side with Pez every week, he does the tough things very well, something Hedger probably isnt built to do yet.

And as for him being paid "a lot less than $250", ive heard from 2 sources that he got offered $400 and the assistant coaching gig. The guys i heard it from said that Avoca were willing to pay anything to secure a quality ruckman, something they lacked last year. Anyway, goodluck to you guys and to Hedger

I to have heard hedger is on around the $400 per game mark. on another note any 1 else heard the rumour that things are not all ar rosy as they once were with J-Mac and dunnolly?

Your sources are a fair way of the mark Bushyman, Avoca i believe have signed 3 new players all around the 6ft 4"mark, so that blew that theory out of the water, concerning a ruck man.

Regarding J-Mack i think it would be great if he goes around again at Dunolly, if only to show that he can stay place at a club longer than 1 year. If he leaves it only plays into the hands of his knockers. It falls back to him i suppose, i for one, would love to see him in this league
prowling around the half back line again. He is our reigning best and fairest.

The only club he has been at for a year was Rokewood which was 2 hours away from Maryborough where he lived. He was at Natte for 3 years, Borough for 2 and North Ballarat JFC for 3. There would be a lot of guys who have been around a bit more than that.

Where are people hearing he is going to?

Trentham Footy Netball Club just had their Christmas break up and believe me the feeling around the club is the best it has been in many years. Full credit must go to Rod Hassett(President) Jenny Hassett(Treasurer) and the whole committee who have worked extremely hard to turn the club around.
Season 2010 hasn't even started yet and already the club is kicking goals the family atmosphere is back and judging from the group at tonights event everyone is keen to see the club perform at a better level
The clubs policy of making things enjoyable off the ground is already paying dividends with good supporter turn out and hopefully next season the club will be able to show improved form on the footy field and netball court to encourage even better support

any sightings yet of TD, fraser murphy, dougie the hawk and those sorts of blokes, wombat ??
Their tasks with the club wont begin until training resumes in late January. Apparently the Hawk is keen to spend time with the Under age kids and hopes to be able to get up to some early sessions. Fraser Murphy will be concentrating on the onballers when he comes to training. All of these blokes have terrific skills and knowledge that they will be able to pass on to our young side.
The club is confident that any time these great players spend at training or around the club will be of a huge benefit to the youngsters who want to learn and improve

Looks as though young Matt Culvenor from Newstead has signed on with us at Castlemaine, seen last week in long discussions with the coach and assistant coach. Word is that the boys offered him an amount of money that is impossible for a kid his age to turn down. Should have a bit to offer us, with him kicking over 50 goals as a 16 year old last year. Time will tell.

Any truth to the rumour that there's a big group of players (young guns too!!!) coming from Werribee as well as ex Macedon players to the saints next year?????
Its that time of year when rumours are rampant. Who knows what the New Year holds, but Trentham is hopeful of picking up some more recruits and they will be more than welcome.
Trentham District Football Netball Club wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
