Apparently trentham played rockbank and lost by 4 or 5 goals last week
Maldon played Sunbury Kangaroos and also lost, by a bit more (14), apparently played with a few missing

So Talbot won't be much different to last few years then Rich, as the same better players were in the best.

Looks that way doesn't it mate! Read the rest of the post and the answer might be in there.....

And do good players stop being good in 6 months??? Generally not....

your good players will always be in the best though mate, but as king rich said, we had an inexperienced side in, and you need your experienced players to stand up in those conditions. good players are good players so they should be always around the mark, i believe that each club has a good core group of players, but the difference between good teams and great teams is the ammount of depth you have , eg harcourt.

Easy boy's it was just a passing comment from someone who saw the game. But why go on about what happened in a practice match when it does'nt really count until the first bounce ? And after all the hype on the thread about Talbot so far this year and how they are stacking up, you could expect a bit more from some of their new recruits perhaps?

No accouncement has been officially made yet Shamui!

How did you play Shamui?

There has been some conjecture as to whether the first or the last three games will be dropped off if a late start to the season occurs. Can anyone give a definate answer on this?

Just reporting on the scores and who went well as a lot of people are interested to see how other clubs are going at this time of year. We dont put a high priority on practice matches traditionally.

According to my man who attended the meeting it was decided that the last 3 games would be dropped off if the season was shortened. There has been no word on the season being shortened as yet.

Your Man Reiny again looking after Talbots interest before being smart enough to keep the start instead of the end. Fancy starting the season at round 4, conviently don't Talbot play Harcourt, Avoca & Maldon in the last 3 Rounds all likely Finalists. But Sorry fella's Talbot couple of Commitee people are all over the running the league and to that good on them for doing the league. So maybe I should shut up as, at least they are there to get the league running. :) Isn't that right King?

Even through Rienhard might think this would happen, I think that if there is a delay there may well be a new fixture draw up. We will know more in about a week.

No chance.

My thoughts exactly, but according the the great man Max Martin that may be the case. I have heard that the council won't be doing there final review on the grounds until next Wednesday, then a call might be made. I think a few grounds who failed a few weeks ago have been going hammer and tong with water trucks to get the grounds soft enough, but untimately they will need grass cover, which will be slow if they rely on weeds to do that.

Wonker & Shamui, just noticed that the Robinsons have gone into time limit with their clearances to Carisbrook. Why would they have not been dealt with, rather then just let time clear them?

It wasn't Talbot who put the motion forward to drop the final 3 rounds. I'm sure the majority of the delegates would look after their own clubs interest that is just the way of the world. Its not starting from Round 4 its starting from round 1 which may or may not be delayed. And as you eluded too there aren't too many hands going up to help run the league so someone has to do it.
I would guess that if the council is not looking at the ovals until next wed the season would start on time.

I may be wrong Lunch Time but I dont think grass cover is a massive issue. If the ground is soft enough it will pass. Obviously you'd like some cover on there which most ovals will have anyway but the machine they use measures softness.

Heard a whisper at training last night that Creek may be gone. If that is the case the league will more than likely have no choice but to draw up another draw. This would mean no byes obviously as well! But another one we just have to wait and see on!

They certainly do measure softness, but at least if there is good grass coverage on top it helps alleviate some impact. Soil may be wet one day, but without good coverage it is likely to dry out within a couple of day's. Princess Park would be like this without grass cover, but with a little rain it is still playable at the moment.

Yeah agreed!

Why would you waste time and computer costs on dealing with players who are not interested in playing for you? The strange thing is that they have been at nearly every social thing that has been on in town including last week's practice match. As I have said before I would rate both of these boys in Avoca's top ten players on abilty but in our bottom ten as club men. I know the club has well and truly moved on since they stated their intentions. Last season the club made a few stipulations to the playing group which were needed to be met for the club to stay family friendly. The club was losing sponsors, members, committee people etc and the juniors were in danger of getting the wrong messages. Both boys were given the opportunity for an open clearance out of the club if they weren't happy with the arrangements. Both chose to utilise that option and consequently they have gone. The club holds no animosity towards either of the boys or the Carisbrook club and both were wished well in their future endeavours. At the moment the club has a very strong committee, a fantastic playing group and there is a feeling in the club's ranks that finals success may be just around the corner. Only time will tell if the Avoca Club has gone down the right track or not. There is an age old saying that states "the club is always bigger than the individual." Let's not lose sight of this. After all footy is just a bit of fun isn't it?

Only to get club jumpers back. Their clearances to another club were never in question. In saying that I would expect that both boys will play good footy for Carisbrook. You never know they may even make it into the top ten club men over there as well. It happens.

Fair enough wonker, thought it would be something similar

U say the club holds no animosity towards these players yet you don't want to waste your time and computer costs to clear them.

You say its 'strange' that these fellas have been to social events in Avoca when they are only getting cleared from the footy club not the whole town. Again you hold no animosity but you would rather not see them around the town anymore?

The club may have moved on but have you Wonker . Remember Wonker the club is always bigger than the individual don't lose sight of this champ.

Well stated Wonker, couldnt have said it better myself. The club has decided to take a new path and not tolerate mediocrity or troublesome players who aren't happy with the playing environment. Only time will tell if the right decision has been made, but if pre season is any indication, the club is on the right track with great numbers and a lot more interest from supporters and sponsors in comparison to recent seasons. This is also supported by the better prospects recruiting wise through the appointment of new coaching staff for the 07 season.

All is on the up for the Bulldogs.
