All will be revealed by 5.00 pm Sunday as to who remains in the finals race and in what shape or form. One thing for certain is that Brook will be sitting back hoping Harcourt and Maldon smash the bejesus out of each other which being a final is highly likely.....

with the weather thats predicted it should and will slow things how well do avoca play in the wet heavy weather

I don't support any of the clubs in the finals and was just venturing an opinion after seeing Tim Bright play. He taps the ball to either 3 or 9 o'clock which does help opposition teams when they set up. He doesn't kick many goals i.e isn't in the top ten at Talbot which would suggest that he won't hurt teams forward of the centre and he likes to play across the half back line and take uncontested marks.

Whereas at the recent Sunday match Pilgrim was fantastic against Carisbrook and he can go forward and kick goals.

As G-Man said he likes to float back and is under instruction to help out the backline. Does not go forward but that isn't his game. He works hard around the ground to set up though.

what would they being doing there they have no money left and the word is there talking to geoff white from melbourne .

With the forecast of rain on Sunday..... which side is more capable of dealing with wet weather football? I notice Princes Park is a touch hard so a drop of rain on it will do it the world of good!

I think if it's wet I will give the edge to Harcourt over Maldon. Will greatly effect Maldon's tall timber!

totally agree kingrich this will be a test for maldon in both weather conditions and playin in finals with a team that hasnt played together in finals

Just my thoughts as i watched Harcourt Maldon game which was very entertaining. In my opinion harcourt had several of their so called average players play above themselves which is important for finals footy and good shape to be in.Maldon however didnt run as hard as they normally do and for the first time their defence wasnt as strong. They had some passengers that need to lift. So the difference will be if harcourt get these players up again or Maldon get an even contribution from all their players. For what its worth I think maldon will win in another close one (12 points) but not on last weeks effort which will see Harcourt victors

Harcourt ran out 28 pt winners over Maldon in conditions more like the middle of July than near September at Princes Park this afternoon. The Lions adapted to the conditions better than Maldon early and although Stone was inaccurate early , their close in pressure gave them more scoring oppurtunities and Giri kicked the first of the day. D Carroll was in and around the ball alot in the first quarter but couldn't get many clear posessions due to the Harcourt onballers close checking. Hutchinson was a clever user of the ball early and Browne Kerr finished off some good work to put on another for Harcourt. At quarter time it was 2.4 to 0.2 Harcourt's way.
The second term saw great wet weather footy from the Lions highlighted through their relentless tackling. This caused Maldon to turn over the ball too often and with the Courter's taking the direct route to the rotunda end , the crowd saw Stone bring up his 100th for the season from a set shot. Brown , M Carroll and Cummins were trying hard for the Don's but when Browne Kerr snapped a nice goal from the pocket the Lions entered half time with a handy 32 pt lead in miserable conditions.
The 3rd quarter started as the second finished with an early one to Stone from a lovely spot up. The next 20 minutes however saw Maldon step up several notches and with a more attacking, direct style of play , they began to get on top of Harcourt. A great tackle by Fowler on Hutchinson saw Maldon bring up their 2nd goal of the day. The apple eaters started to take their eye off the ball and with Lea and W Burchell combining well up forward as targets the Don's put on three goals in a row. At one stage the margin was 9 pts as the Lions gave away three 50 metre penalties which saw Maldon capitilise on their oppurtunities. It was a day for chest marks and D Smith for Harcourt took a beauty from a clearing Maldon kick. He converted and this seemed to steady the ship for the Lions. Another to the big Burchell kept Maldon within 15 pts at the last break.
The last quarter Harcourt re-focused and Stone converted twice early through great passes from Hutchinson and Bell. D Carroll kicked a nice late goal for Maldon but with Mack being his usual miserly self in the Lions defence and great forward line defensive pressure from Stone to help set up the sealer the Lions ran out deserved winners to set up a clash with Carisbrook next week. Maldon , having secured the second chance will take on the winner of Talbot and Avoca. I reckon they won't be praying for rain this week so their talented big men can be given every chance to fire.
Harcourt best- Hutchinson Giri Bell Stone Mack
Maldon best- W Burchell M Carroll McLure Brown

Great wrap-up there Bluey, made me feel as though I was at the game. Will be interested to read the write up in the Addy on Tuesday, they could nearly poach it wor for word.

i thought dayne carmichael and tyson martin deservd a look in in the lions best bluey for the donners jonathn pitts and x. teasdale had a dip in atrocious conditions
maldons effort of five straight --- no minor scores --- in the 3rd quarter was xcellent but the game had gone by 1/2 time with only one goal on the bord

Fair call. It's always debatable who was best for each side. I usually go for those I think put in a four quarter effort or have a direct influence on the result. Maldon were far from disgraced and in conditions like today a true understanding of where they are at is hard to judge. They are a top side. However Harcourt showed what an experienced finals side they are. Smith has a well drilled side under his call with several experienced leaders out on the field by his side.

Ditto! Great write up Bluey, hope you will be doing the Avoca vs Talbot game tomorrow as well.

gr8 wrap bluey. couldnt agree with u more in your comments. the opportunity is there 4 some1 else 2 give a report which will be interesting reading. my opinion Avoca by 5 goals. not impressed with Talbot last week against Dunolly. Will b there knocking back some frothies with ya at the dunolly vote count.

tim bright a tap ruckman and less affective around the ground what tree did you fall out of how many times does tim bright lose the ruck and for someone who has atleast twenty possesions im sure his not standing in the centre waiting for the ball to come back and one thing the boys have at talbot is depth so may the better team come marching home and to find someone to shut down prickles bring it on maybe bellenger ha ha

He who laugh's first, often gets laughed at last! Old Chinese proverb!! I'm Fairly sure Belly proved that point.

It's that type of cockiness that will make me enjoy watching Maldon thump you next Sunday!

KingRich Out!

Cockiness king, not one word about sundays final from this end, we gave you the respect your team deserved. As a team we thought could go all the way.I was just pointing out the fact that gman thought it laughable that some one could play on and perhaps keep prickles from dominating,(hence that Quote was in red) ,I dont see that as cocky,i see that as calling it as it is, That explained, the key word in your quote is watching.

Maldon were insipid on Sat and would have to improve greatly to beat any of the other final sides at the moment. They looked overawed by the occasion and very slow. Also suffering from injuries with Brown struggling and a season ending injury to young Hayden Kelly affecting their on ballers. Dont get too carried away at this stage as i think Carisbrook will show up a pace deficency in Harcourt this week and Avoca may just out run Maldon.

The Avoca v Talbot Game was interesting to watch. Can someone explain to me why Talbot persisted with attacking from the dead pocket ( scoreboard pocket ) in the first quarter?? must be the hardest place to kick goals from and they seemed to be determined to have pot shots - paid the price with 1.7 at qrt time. Good physical game with a bit of feeling towards the end. Nick Coughlin took two big grabs ( one over Pilgram which was good to see! ), Ash Grant seemed to put the brakes on Bond and the ruckman Morrisey made Bright work hard all day. This weekends games are hard to pick tho but i'll run with Carisbrook to pip Harcourt thanks to an extra weeks rest and Avoca to beat Maldon in an upset, mainly due to some significant injuries to the Maldon boys.
