Isn't all the fantasy football and sh*t go by them
I don't do any of it so I don't know
but if they are there would be a few that believe
I don’t either, but it seems AFL clubs use their services. I’d like to understand how this stuff was reported and whether this data from Champion has been a little mis-represented by the whoever reported it. Having it reported as Cox being part of an exclusive ‘elite’ group of footballers is probably not what the data was suggesting.

Clubs get access to a lot more data than we do.

Even Collingwood would have to acknowledge that Cox isn't ahead of Pendles and Grundy

but then again they are paying him a shitload of cash

The raw data in and of itself is very useful to clubs. The ranking system Champion data has created based on that raw data is a joke though, and not something that clubs would pay even the slightest attention to.

I doubt anyone does
David King certainly does. He loves to parade Champion Data and other such "advanced" analytics as the be-all and end-all of football discussion, rather than using it in addition to traditional metrics and the eye test. Advanced stats should never be used to supplant traditional forms of analysis IMO - it should be a complementary blend of it all

What sort of data do they get? In basketball, for years, not just at NBA level, you've been able to get breakdowns on individual players like how often a guard goes left or right. Percentages of times a forward makes a particular play,Trigger moves. etc...All supported by video of each time the player does it. Fantastic for defenders.

Aditionally, all the team stuff where they try to analyse which events are the most important for success and thus which to target - I personally think this latter stuff is dangerous as teams often go too hard for the event that is pinpointed by the analysis - rob Peter to pay Paul and thus breakdown somewhere else, changing the pattern of the analysis. I reckon the Pies have done that a couple of times - when Bucks used to just talk about forward fifty entries, which we maximised by playing a 4 man forward, line with 2 extra mids. And 2019 when we became terrified of turning it over in our back half, so moved the ball incredibly safely.

It’s not comparing him to them though. It’s about ralative statistical groupings.

Sorry I should have been more specific re: Cox and the ‘elite’ classification.
I think it’s more a case of the media being very selective in the info they gathered and then how they constructed this list.

Personally I don’t need any data to tell me that Cox is an average player. At his best, a match winner, which happens once or twice a year.
Replicate his game against West Coast on a consistent basis and we have an elite player.

I don't know why people get so caught up in what champion data have to say.

If we look at Mason like we do other "Young" forwards then perhaps this year he will make the grade into this elite field... his stats compare with alot of present and past guns in their first 4 years or so before they really got the plan/confidence/arrogance to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
Here's hoping the Coxilla destroys backlines all year long!

I don't think the eye test works well for David King, his eyes are getting closer together as the years go by.

Looks like one of my fave people.

A person from a show I didn't think I'd like but you know I'm a meat eater & I love it now.

Steven Rinella.

Just watched the interview with Mason on the club website. The pupil of his left eye is definitely more dilated than the right. Is this his new normal now or has he re-injured it? I noticed also that he had a scratch mark under the eye. Perhaps it's just that his eye is bruised. Would anyone know?
