Who are Collingwood standing up to? There has been no pressure from the AFL not to hire Rendell, despite Demetriou labelling him a racist who has no place in the game only months ago. The AFL backflip with no apology or compensation to the Crows is what stinks in all of this.

AFL (Vlad) and Adelaide most likely would of hoped that no one would touch Rendell after the Adelaide kerfuffle... and that Rendell's involvement in the game would cease for a year or two and then he'd perhaps be given some PC token role at AFL house... For you see the AFL have to be seen as being PC about everything and they're REALLY BIG on rehabilitation.

In the end Vlad and Adelaide shot themselves in the foot. Vlad going on about how the AFL give second chances and both Adelaide and Vlad not divulging the real story behind the dismissal.

So Collingwood trumped them big time... "Yep we at Collingwood agree with the AFL's mantra of second chances... so here Matty we're giving you a second chance!".

Pies moved in when the opportunity arose, we just happened to get in before other clubs. Agree with most that the AFL is the villain in this whole affair, playing fast a furious with the truth. Matt has been badly treated in a media circus court, being publicly pilloried and dismissed in disgrace.

Pretty much right! He really should still be at Adelaide, but if we can get him I'm all for it.

I do not think Collingwood has anything to apologize for they never sacked Rendell.Rendell,s sacking since it occurred has looked more unjust by the day since it happened especially since looking at the form of the people of the people involved ie Mifsud and Ali.Recently we have heard that Vlad and Afl may have had some misgivings about the whole affair and were making noises about bringing Rendell back into the fold.

Collingwood needed a recruiter and there was a good one available and it look,s like they have got him,his original sacking had nothing to do with the Pies whatsoever nothing for the Pies to apologize for,good work pies.:thumbsu:

Big deal the guy said some stupid shit, lost his job, and found another. The pies are the winners here.

Melbourne were never into Rendell as our head recruiter. It was a throwaway line on Monday night from Garry Lyon, who contrary to popular opinion doesn't actually run the club.

As others have since pointed out, we have an agreement with Collingwood's assistant recruiter Jason Taylor to join us in 2013. We would have had him this year except Collingwood enforced the terms of his contract.

The only fail in this thread is your attempt to criticise Melbourne for something that never happened.

yes he recruited you 3 flags (and deservedly huge kudos :thumbsu:), but the basis of that was 10 years ago.

since then theres been j.selwood and.....................

Collingwood is not the villain in this story, they are merely the beneficiary of a situation that was poorly handled by the AFL and the AFC. The most culpible figure in all this is still Jason Mifsud. It's a travesty that after two indiscretions and failing at his role that the man is still employed in any football capacity at all.

Mifsud betrays a confidence (more than once)
AFL definitely put pressure on Trigg
Trigg capitulated
AFL satisfied as they have appeared to act decisively and no blood on their hands.
Few weeks passes, one hour counselling session later and all is right.
Collingwood seizes the opportunity created by lack of AFL and AFC spine.

You'd have a point if Monkhurst or Carey were the subject of a public tantrum by the AFL Commissar who declared they didn't deserve to be in football.

You are right, Collingwood have nothing to apologise for, but you (Collingwood supporters in general) have no idea what it's like to be a club 'other than Collingwood', to be an interstate club, and to have to tow the AFL line sometimes.

Collingwood have done well to pick up a brilliant recruiter who was out of contract, and Crows supporters are still bitter that our club was unable (too weak) to fight the AFL on this, despite the 'truth' coming out about what was said, and the character of the two accusers.

The AFL and Vlad are the villans, not Collingwood or the Crows, so there's no need to behave like you're in Bay 13.
 
If the deal does officially get done, this is an amazing pick up.

Rendell is a great recruiter and Adelaide's list is a testament to that.

Rendell said himself, he was hoping to be around this year because he thinks this year's draft is one of the best ever.

Will be good to see what he and Hine can do with low picks.

Couldn't have put it better myself, Mifsud and his cronies are the ones responsible for the mess Rendell and your club found itself in at the time. The same Mifsud that lost all the credibility during the Davey/Neeld episode.

Collingwood or not Matt Rendell was always going to get a job somewhere else after being exonerated by Vlad not so long ago.

Spot on mate. We're just a (very lucky) 3rd party in this whole scenario.

I can see why crows fans are angry at Hypocrit-riou though. He overreacted to begin with and has seemingly realised that now, but doesn't have the balls to admit so. Pathetic.

The AFL pretty much force Adelaide to sack Rendell to take the heat off Misfud.

Yet suddenly they approve Collingwood coming in and hiring him.
