so, that's a no. a couple of nuffs nuffs getting worked up over nothing.

gotta love BF

I think the point was that it's pretty clear in the rules that Rendell stuffed up and they could/should have taken the pick away. Except in practice it is a stupid rule, and OBVIOUSLY you're not going to do that when someone stumbles over a eight digit number.

Rendell hasn't been there terribly long, but he's already infected with the moron bug, must be part of the initiation at the crows

Didn't the same thing happen a couple of years ago? From memory Hawthorn almost ended up with another player (from some bush league) who also went by the name of Lance Franklin.

They called the right name, but called the number of the wrong Franklin. AFL let them off then, so the precedent was set for Rendell's stuff up.

common sense must prevail in that situation.

maybe adjust the rules, as Rendell read the number of a player already drafted. Rules could read that if he read a player of an already selected player, he must make the next selection within the time limit. However, if he read the number of an undrafted player; the club would not be able to double-back, they would be stuck with that player.
Makes much more sense and would not need any stretching of the rules; black and white.

I think Fonzie saved Rendell's job realistically. Dont be surprised to see a Xmas card in Fonzie's mailbox in coming weeks.

Its a pretty stupid rule anyway. Imagine if it was a top 5 pick and you lost it for reading a number wrong. The punishment just doesn't fit s the crime.

that's the point. of course they're not going to do it over something as silly as that. which why screaming that they almost did is so stoopid.

I think Melbourne forgot to list the club for pick 4 as well, which according to the rules means their pick is void.

Either enforce the rules or don't have them, it will make it impossible for them to enforce the rule in the future because of letting the errors go this year.

Mice try but no cigar, the SEN mike went quiet

That's just about right, but I have a nagging feeling that the bloke Gary Buckenara almost called out was "Luke Franklin". There was an article in the Age earlier this year about it, actually.

We have to remember that these are people we are talking about, and to screw a kid around just because the AFL wants to be strict with their rules is a bit silly.

Good on Dimi for being flexible and not making a fuss of the mistake.

hah i must say i trhought the same thing as Orange

but then i looked up this...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asgardians_(comics)

The Asgardians or Gods of Asgard are a fictional race of gods in the Marvel Comics universe. Some are taken from mythology while others are original creations.

They were worshipped about a millennium ago by the Norsemen of Scandinavia and various Germanic tribes, but they no longer have, or seek to have, any worshippers on Earth.

The gods live in dimension called Asgard which is also home to 5 other races (Giants, Dwarves, Elves, Trolls, and Demons).

anyway back on topic
Rendell is a tool yes... but for not picking up Ebert ;)

i agree that theres no point having a rule if its not going to be enforced

Common sense says a club should not be penalised but why bother having the rule when its not going to be enforced?

Adelaide: We'll have player, 1234 Jesse Smith, Calder Cannons

Geelong: We'll have player 5678 Jesse Smith, Calder Cannons

Adelaide: Actually we wanted 5678.

It is basically double-entry book-keeping designed exactly to do what it did on the weekend. Remove any doubt about players, names, clubs.

I know why the AFL has the rule but didnt Vlad expressly state that the incorrect name, number or club would result in that club losing their pick?

I dont think the Crows should have lost their pick but it all came across as abit of a farce to me.
