it seems leuy just can't take a trick as far as injury goes, everytime he gets into match/ playing mode, as distinct from training, it seems he gets an injury of some kind. so so frustrating for all concerned.

Lions ruckman to miss NAB final
March 12, 2013
Al Paton

BRISBANE Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger has been ruled out of Friday's NAB Cup final and is in doubt for Round 1.

Leuenberger has played just one quarter in the NAB Cup in his comeback from an Achilles injury that he suffered in Round 3 last season.

The Lions revealed today the ruckman was a late withdrawal from last Saturday night's win against Collingwood after pulling up sore following his brief game time against GWS.

"We're going to give him the best chance to be ready," assistant coach Adrian Fletcher said after training today.

Re Leuenberger's injury on sat night after the game Malclom Holmes our CEO was asked the question regarding Leuenberger injury he said they thought it was a referral pain coming from his back down to his achillies not the one which gave him problems last year they dont think its serious but they want tocheck it out with some scans thats what he said when the question was asked.

I genuinely feel for Leuy. He is such a good team player and is the last person on our list who deserves this (other than Cal). The thing that pisses me off even more is than moron's on FB say we should've picked Selwood. I will always stand by Leuy! He is a huge talent and injury is robbing him and the team of something special.

Didn't think he would be ready anyway. I would think he might playa half to 3/4 of the season. Achilles are the hardest injury to come back from so no surprises.

It's a back/calf/achilles issue. Something isn't right (probably in his back) and it has his body out of wake, putting extra stress on other areas to compensate. I like that we are being careful with him this year, we don't want a repeat of last year. If Longer could play the first 6 games, gives Bergs about 8 weeks to get himself right, probably the first 4-6 with rest and working back into training, then maybe a game or 2 in the 2nds for some match fitness.

I think he will have enough km's in the tank, he has done enough fitness wise over the preseason, but he hasn't played a game at any level for awhile, and i think it will take him a few weeks to get back into the swing of things.

Facebook is reporting he dominated all facets of the game yesterday. Facebook also said that the game was today... Facebook once again you appall me.
