Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide's rebuild?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

You make it (sort of sound) like he's doing us a favour! This is a massive opportunity for Nicks. Only 17 other men in Australia have it.
Agreed. Not every first-time AFL senior coach lands a squad that was 4th at the turn despite having no faith in a coaching staff that had lost them. And consequently underdelivered on the run home when team spirit is the key.

Excited to see what he’ll do. Onwards and upwards.

Welcome to the club, Nicksy!

Nicks was chosen a while ago, and most of the last fortnight has been about searching for and appointing the rest of the box. Remember that for the appointments of 2011 (Sanderson), 2014 (Walsh) and 2015 (Pyke) most of the existing coaches/football department stayed the same. This is a very fresh footy department and it takes time to put one together.

Let's hope it brings success - and it doesn't have to be immediate.

tbh I have no idea if he'll be good or not. So I just hope he is bloody magnificent and wish him the best.
None of us really do know, even though some think they do. No coach when they start already screams out they'll be the next Clarko (or now, Hardwick apparently - who supposedly also needed sacking a couple of years ago)

No one knows how any of these applicants will have worked out. Different environments or clubs will also see different coaches either fly or fail.

I like him, is well regarded, let's hope it all works out. Full support to do what he needs, judgement can only come in time. Welcome Matty.

The fact that the selection committee on his appointment was divided isn't filling me with great confidence..
But I'm hoping he will be a great long term coach.

Is anyone else more excited about who the senior assistant/line coaches will be ??

Yep majorly important.
No Ben Hart as forwards coach.
New midfield coach
New senior assistant.
New eyes in the selection committee.

i've got little doubt if he wasn't appointed head coach of afc, this time next year Port would've appointed him their senior coach.
I reckon Schofield was and is first in line at Port if Kern fails in 2020 .

Not really knowing anything about him, and with no senior coaching record to judge him by, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

For now. God help him if we lose round 1, though *shakes fist*
