Wade is a very ordinary keeper.. Haddin wasn't the best but he is still better than Wade despite what the Bushranger fanboys say and I actually can't stand Haddin ffs.

Oh for a the selectors to pick someone decent behind the stumps, they keep trying to unearth the next Gillchrist, the funny thing is that he was light years ahead of both these 2 behind the stumps.

Anyone bringing up T20 innings as justification for selecting a player in the Test team should just ban themselves.
I agree that T20 form should have nothing to do with Test selection. But Paine's keeping is standing out from Wade's, and that is the same, if not harder in T20 because of the wide yorkers and all that crap. If we were talking on batting form, we wouldn't be having this discussion now would we?

You also only have to keep for 20 overs in T20. Not indefinitely after having batted for the best part of a day (his whole innings) and after having looked decidedly sore/unwell this morning. Let's just keep that in mind before we crucify him for a couple of missed chances today.

In Hussey's over at the end of the day was Wade one of players who appealed for the stumping even though he smashed the wickets his hands? Classy stuff. He's had a stinker the gloves today. He seemed to be struggling physically at the end of the Aus innings, maybe that carried over into the Sri Lankan dig, or maybe I'm just making excuses for him.

I have to say that as limited as Lyon is (Herath is a class above), I've got sympathy for him today. He must be quietly thinking that bloke behind the stumps might cost me a career.

Wade might average 45 with the bat his entire career. Great. But how many runs is he costing us through his fumbling, particularly to the spinners?

We've got a tour to India coming up. You can bet the pitches will not have one blade of grass and we may have Lyon/Maxwell bowling a lot. We MUST have a 'keeper who will take most opportunites. I'd seriously pick 2 keepers for the tour. Wade will be the incumbent but if he screws up the first couple of tests swing in the replacement. Wade has to be made more accountable for his errors.

In the light of no other cricket being played at the moment, there's not much else we can tell about his batting. Anyone who thinks that batting should be the number one criteria for a Test level keeper should similarly ban themselves.

Tis nothing to do with runs, its all to do with keeping for Paine. We know he will score runs. I don't see Wade as a long term 6 either, I don't see him in the test side in a few years if he continues to give the opposition as many chances as he does in innings. Both his big scores this summer he's given atleast 4 chances to the opposition and they haven't taken them. This won't happen all the time.

He still needs to be scoring some runs to be selected. If the selectors didn't care about how our keeper batted they would pick the best keeper every time.

So Wade got a century, so what how many runs has his keeping cost us this summer already?
All the more reason to have Wade as a speciallist bat and Paine keeping. Watching Big Bash now and I know it's T20, but Paine looking tidy behind the stumps. And we all know that Paine can bat.

Paine is the best keeper out of the 3, and looks like he is starting to return to form. Going back to Haddin would be taking a step back in my opinion. He was great for a while, but it's time to move on.

If Haddin is the best wicketkeeper in Shield cricket then how, with back to back Ashes coming up, is it a step back?

Well like I said in what you quoted. Paine is the best keeper out of the 3. Paine is a much better keeper then Haddin these days.

Tim Ludeman is the best glovemen in the country. Take him to India purely as a specialist keeper, bat him down at 8 or 9. The runs he doesn't make will be saved by his superior keeping.

If you want to do it like that I would rather still Paine or Hartley

Good wall first ball Tim Paine! Then a beautiful cut!

Hartley shits on Ludeman as a keeper. And is a far better batsman too

Runs?

His pathetic keeping was one of the main reasons we didn't win the Adelaide test

The man is a complete liability behind the stumps and he will be laughed out of India with the shit job he will do.

Wouldn't say as a keeper he would. Ludeman is a very good keeper. As a batter, yes he would, but like Hartley Ludeman is slowly coming into his own as a batsman. He's had some good knocks this year, normally he'd be out for 20 but he's been pushing towards a maiden ton.

You've seen more of him as a SACA, but Hartley is better performed IMO

Prior to Wade's selection there were a few question marks over his keeping, particularly to spinners but from memory he was never as bad during his time in the Shield and even during his debut series in the West Indies (feel free to correct if that's not the case, but I'm fairly certain he performed satisfactorily behind the stumps). So, it would appear to me that this recent spate of dropped chances off our spinners may be as much of a confidence issue as anything. He deserves first crack at India as the incumbent, and it will be his acid test, but talk of dropping him now is pretty damn premature and knee-jerk.

If the selectors were to bite the bullet and play him at number 6 due to his poor keeping (or drop him entirely), you sure as hell wouldn't bring in Haddin. Common sense would dictate you bring in the best keeper in the country, which IMO is Hartley. There's no way in hell you'd select Paine off Big Bash form.
