What's even more disgusting is the way Caroline Wilson labelled Richmond's actions as poor form while the rest of the Footy Classified panel let her get away with it. Hawthorn draws a line in the sand against the Bombers a few years back and it's described as a "defining moment" - despite getting hammered on the scoreboard. Richmond does it and it's "..oh poor Collingwood". They've had a free ride into the finals, let 'em fend for themselves from here on in.People like Wilson who haven't played the game have little understanding as to how that moment on Saturday might have actually planted a seed that may galvanize our players in the future - rather than just playing for their paycheck and a big night out at the Riverside Hotel. Also good to see that criminal Didak cop on the field what was denied in the courtroom.

What I took away from Maxwell's comments was that if they wern't playing finals he and they would have been taking pot shots themselves WTF! Great argument. Of all the people to take the higher ground.

FFS every single football journalist, commentator, opinion maker etc labelled the Tigers response as poor on the day and indicative of a poor internal culture (even bloody Caro who supports the Tiges and who has been taking shots at the Pies all year).

All opinions I've read and heard in the media so far have found Maxwell to be honest and refreshingly forthright in voicing his opinion. I have heard no opinion from any senior footy journo that Maxwell was out of line and should not have said what he said. Only Newman and Richo have had a sook about being him a sore winner or some dribble.

So we have a 93 point win, no suspensions and a finals campaign to look forward to. It seems you can look forward to cutting and pasting amusing photshopped pics of Alan Didak into threads.

Because the journalists are always right and will never move to the side of conservatism on a controversial issue.

Will be interesting to see the hypocracy of their stance if Jake King gets his melee charge withdrawn, as the only ones that could have started the melee then would have been the 4 Pies players who jumped on him. :)

The media aren't going to shoot their golden goose, not while he's shitting out headlines for their papers.

Good to see King get suspended for the rest of the year. It's pretty weak to hit someone off the ball

Yeah it is, but it's just as weak to cry about it to the media and make the entire team guilty by association. King and Maxwell both let themselves down this week by their lack of forsight into their actions.

I disagree, I think he should be awarded a medal for hitting Didak, especially given he was probably mouthing off all day. It's definitely weaker for 4 blokes to attack a player who's already on the ground so they can hold him down and give him cheap shots, at least King was man enough to do it 1 on 1.

They did? Every single one of them???

FFS (!!!) - they better tell the guys on One Week at a Time to get into line, as Quartermain and Walls loved it.

There are different ways to lay a shepherd. If everyone did it like Maxwell there would be alot more broken jaws and concussion. It wasn't his hardness - he ran past the ball to collect someone who was trying to get to the ball. Pretty easy to do, and whilst I'll admit I've done it myself (and copped them too) I wouldn't have much pride in recalling the incidents.

If the AFL thought it was OK, why would they immediately change the rule?
But your pretty much saying what Maxwell did AT THE TIME was ok, the AFL saw a flaw and fixed it, but when he did it, he did it within the rules at the time.

Its like saying What Hawthorn did last year with all those points was pathetic and Geelong should of won the Grand final. The AFL saw that and changed the rules.

Bullshit. One bloke came to play football, the other didn't. Pretty simple.

King tried to use Hawthorn's tactics against Didak, and good on him, it has worked before. It was good to see that Didak learned from that experience and towelled King in the process.

As far Collingwood tacking King, any team would have done that. It was good to see them fly the flag. If you smack someone behind play, you should expect to cop a bit of attention the next time you have the footy.

In saying that, at least King had a real dip. I hate the little bugger, but at least he tried all day.

what a bunch of sooks - you were well and truly found out for a pathetic rabble on Saturday. You had nothing except dog tactics. King trying to put an elite player off his game was just laughable - he couldn't even do that. The punch to the guts off the ball was average. And that clown who gave Shaw a good fair bump and then went back for seconds when he was down - was that hard? No it was pretty average too.

Now your captain and spiritual leader are having a sook because Maxy called you out. I guess you would rather Maxy fed your delusions of faded glory and come out and said the usual "there was nothing in it and we respect the Richmond footy club - blah blah. But he called you out and you don't like it.

STFU and move on.
Might want to check with your fellow Pies fan below who seem to think it was a decent punch.
It was a punch and Didak wasn't expecting it.

Is it ok to hit someone with an elbow?

About 1.15 in can you tell me if the incident we see then is within the rules and the act of someone who shows great courage:

It has probably been mentioned, it's an important point imo, that Maxwell never called anybody "gutless". It was the Herald Sun headline that implied that. Maxwell called Richmond's tactics "disappointing" and "average", which in comparison are pretty measured comments. I think a lot the angst and vitriol regarding these things would be avoided if people read articles rather than just the headline. Something pretty inflammatory would then seem less so.

Whats disappointing and average is Maxwell making those types of comments after being rubbed out last year for sniping Murphy instead of laying a tackle, after he should have been rubbed out for the hit on the Eagles player in the NAB Cup and the hit on Steve Johnson when they were both well over 5m away from the contest.

Would have no problem if those comments were made from a bloke who is a ball player and hasn't been rubbed out, but when it comes from a sniper well its kind of Pot. Kettle. Black.

I think you are being kind. It is pathetic, hypocritical and wrong.

He is a dick, like his president.

Obviously providered enough evidence to prove otherwise he wouldn't of got off. It was a nice hard hit IN play and it was just unfortunate that the guy got a broken jaw, hell at the time they didn't even pay a free kick....

Notice how the teams in the top eight at the end of the season, when their players are involved in incidents they always get off. Only players out of the eight get pinned.
Collingwood are Pretenders not Contenders. WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND.
Everyone knows Collingwood supporters ARE NOT THE SHARPEST TOOLS IN THE SHED.

Maxwell really didn't need to say anything.

Now he's a commentator he should just be careful and his conflicts of interest.

One day it could backfire back on his team.

Maxwell has now draw more fire on Didak.

Watch in the Finals how many opposition players are now going to treat Didak like a punching bag. We weren't the first and we won't be the last.

The incident we are all talking about happen in pre season im pretty sure and if not like round 2-3. So maybe before you start generalizing attacks you should make sure you know what you're talking about.

And @ the youtube video, no that is not how he should play, im not justifying his actions at all on that hit, nor did i say it was the right thing, however with that hit if he kept his elbow in he would not of been in any trouble due to the fact he never left the ground. And that incident does not define courage nor a good example, its like saying King's hit behind play on didak that drew the original free kick, that is not couragous, does that make King a non couragous player? No, it's just one incident that puts a mark against his name.

Maxwell is a hypocrite plain and simple. He has been rubbed out, suspended but won on appeal and been investigated for a number of incidents which are just as bad if not worse that Kings lovetap to Didak. To then come out and accuse King and others of using dirty tactics to try and put them off their game is stupid and Pies fans defending what he said is equally as stupid.

As I said if it was a criticism levelled by a guy who plays the ball and has a clean record then would have no problem with what was said, to have a known sniper say it well its embarrassing to say the least.

I rely on the media to influence the way I think too!

Try to keep the words in your own mouth.

The MRP gave him weeks, and the majority of football fans thought his let-off was a mistake. The AFL obviously agreed.

So "what your pretty much saying" is that Maxwell knew there was a loophole in the rules, and took out the player knowing that he'd be cited by the MRP, but would be able to bring the lawyers in at the tribunal and get off? Geez, he's smarter than he looks!

It came down to a technicality which was argued by a big wig who was paid for by the CFC (and Eddie no doubt leaning on Demetriou). So Maxwell wouldnt take his medicine at the time (like everyone else, and in the true spirit of the game), but it's interesting to look at him now preaching like he's some saint.

He'll get his comeuppance. ;)
