THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

No idea if it results in Maynard getting off, but fwiw:

A Woods will be lucky to keep his place, flirting with a stint in the twos, tbh.

Coming from a basketball background where “close outs” happen all the time. Maynard has played basketball at a high level and I think that he had two intentions, one to smooth and the other to clear up Brayshaw.

Maynard could have jump off one leg, controlled his movement more up and across.
Scott Pendlebury?

The biomechanist's evidence has already refuted this line of argument.

The biomechanist said that Maynard put himself in a situation where he was totally out of control, like a frisbee with legs.

If they're trying to refute the carelessness element, the biomechanist is not their friend.

Pie fans following up their classy act of chanting while a player is unconscious with victim blaming.
It's been going on since fairly early in this thread sadly. :(

Let’s just get him cleared and move onto the Martin case.

I hope the AFL push for 7 weeks

Na find him guilty, only for Ed to whinge.

You’ll appeal and get him off on Thurs

Yep, people sliding into your ankles and smashing the ball with your head makes it a way safer game.

Not to mention possibly being assaulted by opposition supporters mid game.

With no pathway because there is dick all money involved.

Hopefully the kids are independent enough to form their own opinions on interests and activities.
Or having a flare thrown in your direction by the bogan element of the crowd.

That wasn't the line of argument raised in the post I replied to.

The careless element is refuted by the evidence that Brayshaw deviates into Maynard's line, meaning the result was not reasonably foreseeable by Maynard at the time he committed to his action.
