THE AFL has opted against appealing the Tribunal's decision in the Brayden Maynard case, meaning the Collingwood defender is in the clear to play in the Magpies' preliminary final.

The AFL, having brought the charge against Maynard, said on Wednesday that it would not challenge the Tribunal's ruling, but would comment further later in the day.

"The AFL has confirmed that after careful consideration and review of the Tribunal's decision and reasons following last night's hearing into the incident involving Collingwood's Brayden Maynard and Melbourne's Angus Brayshaw, the AFL has decided not to appeal the Tribunal's decision," a statement read.

"Per the Tribunal Guidelines the AFL had to make this decision by 12:00pm AEST today.

"The AFL will release a further statement later today."
Finally some sanity 👍

Very clear analysis of situation that will rub Maynard out for 1-2 weeks.

In a club match simulation would he have ROLLED HIS SHOULDER IN AND HIT HIS TEAM MATE IN THE HEAD or ARMS DOWN ON SHOULDERS OR ROLL TO OTHER SIDE to protect HIS TEAM MATE. nah, thug act = no more finals. Bye bye

Kane has already put her insane stamp on the game and it makes you ask the question "What game are we all watching in 2023"? This is utter madness and i dislike the ferals considerably, but on this occasion what else could Maynard do? He will be made an example and the AFL doesn't care as long as 93,000 turn up to this bewildering game.

Step away from the computer in your mums basement and;

  • jump forward to an object with your arms up and out
  • see if your natural instinct isn’t to brace for contact rather than expose your sternum/ribs

This stuff happens in a split second. I’m not saying he doesn’t have a case to answer for but he certainly didn’t “elect to bump”.

You can’t have played a contact sport.
If he'd smothered the ball would he have tucked the arm in and turned sideways or would he have kept his arms out front?

What a crap response.

Ask yourself why players don’t seem to iron out their own teammates on a field with an accidental hip and shoulder from “unavoidable” contact? Because they are really good at not hitting things they don’t want to.

(And yes, before you go with the personal insults, yes I have played many many years of football at levels both “rank“ amateur where Maynard would have been belted on field as retaliation and “good” amateur.)

Which is my exact point. Abolish the MRO and have the footy ops manager makes all the decisions.

The MRO guy reviews all the matches. The execs then weigh in with their thoughts on penalties.

You dont expect AFL execs to actually watch all the games ?!?

Next you will be wanting AA selectors, Rising Star selectors and journalists to actually watch football.

Robbo the other day talked about his injuries after his car crash. He said he was stuck at home and ended up watching a lot of football.

I took that to mean that he usually doesnt watch a lot. Which is backed up by his ignorance.

Um…this does happen

Gary Rohan put Jezza Cameron into next month this season.
Your own team with Aliir and Jones this season.
A couple of years back Jeremy Howe got knocked out by Darcy Moore in a marking contest.
Lloyd knocking out Caracella.
(There will be plenty more other posters can kindly remind us)

This happens more regularly than incidents like the Maynard one - when have you seen something like this?

Serious L on this post, wow.

that’s contested ball…. Whole different animal.
if that was the case here, it wouldn’t be a reportable incident.

But Maynard has approached a player with the ball, and ended up getting nowhere near the ball and knocking a player out cold, well after disposal.

But you think that’s ok, so good luck to you.

Arguably touches it if you slow it right down frame by frame, which they will do.

What absolute horse s**t this league has become.

He jumps in the air to try and spoil and now has to somehow move in the air to avoid collision. He needs one of the JFK major bullets in this scenario.

This league has lost the olot. Yes protect the head but Christ we will start injuring players by their attempts to avoid collision. Farce!!!

Apparently you can just fly out the way like superman lol

Indeed.

Will someone think of the children?

In the AFL they nominate ruckman like kindergarten, they help the players get the ball out of the backline by letting them run out 30 meters to kick it in. They are nit allowed. To bump or tackle in case one of the other kiddies gets hurt.
It’s funny as hell what they have done to this once great sport.

If you want to work out if Maynard should be suspended, ask yourself how many games would Toby Greene get if he did the same thing on nick daicos. Then take off 1 .

WTF?

Ralph just said that Laura Kane overruled Christian in his capacity as the MRO?

Frig me.
That's fantastic tbh.

So many players from big clubs getting off incidents they should be suspended for in finals campaigns.
