The problem is that team balance wise, Edwards for McBean isn't the best swap. It makes our forward line a little top heavy.

Except McBean at 202cm has the agility of a midfielder and is great below his knees so no we aren't top heavy. Most of his goals at VFL level have come from roving it at ground level.

On McBean, does anyone know if he has played any time in the ruck yet (and if so, how has he gone?)

I liked how Choco said he thought he could play 2-3 games this year given a lot of people thought it would be 2-3 years before we probably saw him (as he needed to bulk up).

No he's not. He's great below the knees and agile for a guy who is 202cm. But at the moment, he's only OK-ish as a tall target (fair enough, he's still a stick insect). And that's how he will, or will not, make it as an AFL footballer.

I would be surprised if McBean got a game, unless Vickery is injured (and Stephenson as well) - and even then, I think McGuane would get the nod first. Then Elton. Then Griffiths. Then Deryckx. Then McBean.

But, gee, it would be exciting to see him get chucked in just to see what he could do - and if he came off and kicked a couple, this board would explode.

Don't think so. He'd only be in line to take Edwards spot. He can't play Vickery's role.

What makes you say this? Very odd.

Chocco said he was in selection frame last week at MC and will play a few games before the year is out. Derickx is certain delist material and won't play another game for Richmond again. Griffiths can't get kick a kick at Coburg while McBean has been in the best mosts weeks consistently kicking goals. Very odd. Also Elton is being developed at CHB.

Underrated McBean severely while overrating a couple others.

cheers tigs - I'm a fan of Vikcery and hope he can become the player we all want him to be but it would be good for him to have someone pushing from Coburg for his spot.

Hopefully we get to see the McBean in his debut for the club soon :thumbsu:

Talk of McGuane coming back is fanciful unless we have an injury crisis.

Edwards has played well "off ball". Our forward line has functioned very well with Aaron in. Aaron has done his job leading up to the wings very well. Rarely have Ty, Jack or Edwards got in each other's way.

He hasn't impacted the scoreboard but many times he was burned when he was free or made a good lead. Edwards ignored him terribly on Saturday and for good measure Dusty pinched one off him.

But Edwards is no certainty to stay and needs to keep working.

If he falls off a bit in intensity Mcbean will be his replacement.

Mcbean has Edwards covered offensively. Whether he can provide team defence at this very early stage of his development is questionable. One needs to remember that Liam is still 18. A low age recruit. Daniher is 19 and around 6 months older and had the benefit of a year in the Essendon system last year. What Beanie has done at Coburg and his rate of development is pretty exceptional.

Interesting that Mcbean had the week off. Richmond are really looking after the young recruits, Mcintosh had a week off 3 weeks ago, then Maddonna had the week off before the bye so all the young kids got, or will get either a three week break between games or in Mcintosh's case one game with two week breaks either side.

Its actually a good idea to rest these kids in their 1st year as they are not used to such a heavy work load and the constant hits from bigger more heavy bodies and the faster pace of the game.

We have a lot invested in all 3 of these kids as they are very very different types that we dont have
McBean 202+ cm and extremely agile foward/defender
McDonough -small crumbing foward with solid body & Deadly kick
McIntosh - 192/193 cm Midfielder

Certainly adds variety

if Mcbean could have an impact like Westhoff did in his first season i would be very pleased, similar players and build in their first season
If we were gonna miss the finals, I'd say bring him in for a few games. But at the moment we have a squad capable of playing in September, there's no need to rush him. I expect him to debut sometime next year.

Thought about giving him a game against GWS,But then we wouldn,t have nothing to look fwd to over the Pre-Season.:D

I have to moderate my expectations of him. I havent been excited about a smokey like this since the Goo. And look where he ended up? (Apologies to Liam for the comparison)

To be fair, The Goo was a very talented footballer. Just didn't have the right frame of mind to be an AFL footballer. Could have been anything if he got his head right.
